Looking for specific info?

Need to know the aue date?

I purchased 2 of these in aug. 2020 and they have aue date of june 2027. I bought another one in dec. 2021 and it has an aue date of june 2028. Each seller should include this info on amazon page so a consumer knows the details of the specific device they are purchasing — the seller lists the cost of shipping and they could list the aue date, as well. Fyi: i bought third device to replace one that completely died for no apparent reason and couldn’t be revived despite many efforts. On the other hand, price point in low $200s is good. The thing our family doesn’t like about the device: there is no forward/outward facing camera. So, if you’re looking at screen to see image, you’ll be in the photo. If you are accustomed to the convenience of an i-pad’s outward facing camera and if you frequently use your camera, you will probably be annoyed by design of acer chromebook’s camera. Image quality is also very low compared to apple standards.

Does this laptop have an hdmi port?

There isn’t an hdmi jack built into this laptop, but you can easily add one yourself. All you need to do is to buy a usb-c hub that has an hdmi (tv video/audio) jack on it (and is designed for use with chromebooks), power that hub with a usb-c power supply (i just used the power supply that came with this chromebook), and plug the hub into one of the laptop’s 2 usb-c ports. Once you do this, the chromebook will auto-detect the usb-c hub and auto-configure the hdmi port on the hub (at least that’s the way it worked when i did it).

As an added bonus of this approach, you can buy usb-c hubs that also have other features such as a wired internet jack (which this chromebook will apparently use if that feature is available on the hub you buy). For example, i recently purchased (for around $35 from amazon) a usb-c hub that had: an hdmi (video/audio) jack, an ethernet (wired internet) jack, three normal usb 3 ports, and also a place to plug in the usb-c charger to power the hub (and also optionally charge the chromebook from this connection). As a result my chromebook currently has audio/video via my office tv (and the hub’s hdmi jack), wired internet (via the hub’s ethernet jack, which is much faster than the chromebook’s built in wifi), an external usb keyboard/mouse (via usb 3 ports on the hub), extra storage (via a usb flash drive, also plugged into a usb 3 port on this hub), and i even have the charging power for the chrombook via the hub (so i don’t need to use the other available usb-c jack for charging the laptop’s battery). Yes, this approach isn’t free, but imho this is a pretty cheap and easy way to expand the input/output options of this chromebook.

Does it support any type of active stylus and if so what type/model?

This thing does not support a stylus. I have several samsung s-pens and a wacom stylus, none of them work. After testing them out when i got this today, i ended up finding a pdf from google and for this model it says that stylus support is optional. Very disappointing since that’s one of the reasons i bought this. Seems the older model supports a stylus (n3350 cpu) but this new one doesn’t. This one is also missing the second camera above the keyboard to be used as a ‘back camera’ when in tablet mode, but the indented area is still there.

Great upgrade from tablet for my kids, first chromebook

I did a lot of research as to what to get for my kids to replace their aging and damaged samsung tab a’s. We decided that it was time to go to a chromebook so that they could get more repetition with a standard keyboard and googleos. They are still able to download all the playstore apps that they had on their tablets, but now with better hardware and longer support.
This model has 64gb of storage (with sd card option), so thats a huge upgrade. The ram is 4gb, which is more than most cheap tablets these days, and you can tell. Its a lot snappier than the galaxys.
The 2in1 flip with the screen is my kids favorite part! They can use it like a ‘real computer’ and then flip it to make a huge tablet screen instead. Much bigger than the 8′ screen they had before.
For an entry level chromebook, these are sturdy, snappy, and cheap! I dare you to find something better for preteens at this price point!
Note: some of the reviews here complain about the speaker quality/power. This was one of the only things i was weary about when i finally committed to this unit. Those reviews are dead wrong. The speakers are great on these chromebooks. The quality is clear, and they are louder than both of my other laptops and tablets. Playing videos through youtube at 1/2 volume is much louder than the max of my other units. Don’t let the ‘terrible speaker’ reviews sway you.

Definitely worth it.

So far i have had no complaints. It was very easy to set up. The battery life is more than adequate. The biggest thing for me was only adjusting to the operating system. Until now, i have only used windows laptops for the last twenty plus years. Before that i had an apple. It’s been easy so far, though i still have difficulties with right-clicking with the trac-pad. I have easily avoided this by using a wireless mouse.

Good while it last

I got this chromebook to replace my last samsung 11′ chromebook which i had for about 3.5 years.
The acer spin 11 was pretty good and i liked it alot. The keyboard worked much better than my samsung.
That thing has a mind of it’s own, i think. You type one word and the chromebook types up something else..
Expect for this one small problem and it started just after a month or so after i had purchased this.
Once awhile it wouldn’t turn back on after i had idling for whatever time it took to be in power saving mode but
it wouldn’t turn back on, everytime when this happens i have to press the side power button for about ten seconds to turn it off first then, i’d give it a minute before hitting the same power button again. I hold it just long enough to see the blue light goes on next to power button you just pressed. Oh just out of curiosity, what does the power button do located right top corner? Cause it won’t shut the computer off or on. No matter how long you hold the button down. Anyway back to main issue, just awhile i left the chromebook to visit ups store and came back, tried to reboot my chromebook as usual but this time it won’t turn on. I tried unplug & replug all the cables like power, hdmi. Man i only had this for about 4-5 months and this happens. My warranty expired as well…. I’m very disappointed.

Wonderful chromebook, but manage expectations where apps are concerned

I purchased the acer chromebook spin 311 to use as a bedside entertainment center, so i wanted something that could stream and have quality screen resolution. I liked the idea of a device that i could position with the screen set back (open like a laptop) or set forward (flip it and go triangular, baby!); i also needed a reliable blue tooth as i wear comfy headphones that i can sleep in. I have an extensive music collection that i keep on an external ssd and i absolutely love mediamonkey because of it’s customizable interface on it’s window’s app (i assumed the chromeos version would be very similar – my first major stumble).

First, the positive: the device itself is fantastic. Everything about it feels sturdy, the touchscreen is responsive (though, i will say there are times when i feel i have to hit an app 2 or 3 times to activate). The screen resolution and sound quality are lovely for a device of this size and price – don’t go expecting studio quality here, but the streaming was beautiful. The visuals are not pixelated; it’s as good as watching on a television (only smaller). Oh, and i will say i love the fact that the usb-c port is on both sides, which makes it easier to plug in on any side (it’s the little things).

Performance is great, i get no lag and i’ve had no issues streaming netflix, hulu or disney+. I just realized i haven’t tried watching twitch or youtube on this. I’ll download those apps and if i have any problems with them, i’ll update this review and let you know.

I have one grouse, and it’s kind of a biggie: the apps are terrible. It was so dismaying at first, i did actually contemplate sending the device back. I slept on it and decided i was going to stick it out. In truth, part of my disappointment is that the chromeos version of mediamonkey is disappointing. When it came down to it, i tried a whole slew of music apps and i wound up settling on the music app that annoyed me the least (vlc). Most of the apps have ads that are intrusive, and even the ones i thought about paying for just don’t seem worth the value.

Even simple apps like an alarm clock or a blue tooth manager: i downloaded several different ones, and i’m continually settling on the app that annoys me the least or seems to be able to handle some of what i would like. I even tried to find a power button app because i just wanted to turn off the computer with a single, on screen button push – despite over a dozen apps that claimed to do this, all of them performed poorly and one you had to close out an ad before it would turn off (really?!?).

In choosing whether or not to keep it, i had to weigh the solid build and reliable performance against an operating system that was under par for windows or mac.

That said, i’m very glad i kept this little guy. In the end, it’s a reliable little entertainment unit and it’s wonderful where it counts: it’s a great streamer (with a beautiful picture) and it plays music that i love and i can leave it in place and listen on my blue tooth headphones while i wander all over the house. The apps are a shame, but honestly, given the price point here, it’s a good deal and i can live with it.

Good but watch out

Great computer for kids and school however after just one year there seems to be a hardware problem and the computer died. Since it was out of warranty after one year, to get it looked at would cost same as if i purchased it!

Its pretty good for it's price range

This works pretty well if you are just going to be web browsing or watching some videos. It’s a bit slow in terms of installing/running apps. But i find it’s small size, lightweight and good battery life make it very convenient to use when you don’t really want to haul around a full size laptop. I might in the future consider spending a little bit more for a faster processor. But that’s about the only criticism i have for this.

Love the convertible design, but i'm not impressed with the storage

The acer chromebook spin 311 is a huge upgrade from my previous chromebook and it suits most of my needs. I purchased it because of it’s price and convertible design. The limited internal storage space and poor camera are the biggest drawbacks in my opinion. Depending on what you plan to use his for, this might be a great low cost option. There are a lot of other devices out there in this price range though. I think it’s important to find out what features matter most to you before you decide.

Pros:
-low cost
-convertible design (my favorite feature)
-good web browsing performance (haven’t had any issues streaming videos or having multiple tabs open)
-good battery life
-ability to install most of the apps available in the google play store.
Note: minecraft is not currently available unless you are planning to use the education edition (in case that’s something you were hoping to play) and some apps are not properly optimized to be used in landscape mode (this seems to be an issue with android apps in general, so i don’t fault this particular device).

Cons:
-only 32 gb internal storage. 13.3 gb are used by the system. This doesn’t leave much room for installing apps. Maybe i’m missing something, but i haven’t found a way to move apps to the sd card. So far, i’ve only been able to select the sd card as the storage location for downloads within apps. For example, i can tell the netflix app that i want to store downloaded videos on the sd card.
-camera quality is extremely poor for video calls. It’s dim and grainy. Using extremely bright lighting helps some, but the graininess is still noticeable.
-1366×768 screen resolution. This isn’t a deal breaker for me, but i do notice the lack of a full hd screen more than i thought i would on a screen this size. This may not be an issue for most users.
-heavy/bulky in tablet mode. I primarily use this as a laptop with a touchscreen that has a keyboard that i can tuck away for watching videos or playing games. That’s what i was looking for, so this works for me. If you are looking for something that is comfortable to use as a tablet, you’d probably be better off getting a 2-in-1 chromebook with detachable keyboard or a tablet with a keyboard case.

Overall, i’m happy with the value and performance of the acer chromebook spin 311. I think i might have purchased something with more internal storage and a better screen if i had to do it over again though.

Great chromeos 2-in-1

Much faster and of course newer than my old acer 15′ chromebook, which was one of the first 15′ models they made and the only 15′ chromebook on the market when i bought it. I got this because i wanted something good for couch surfing and my old chromebook doesn’t support android apps so it was starting to feel very limited in use. I decided on this model after reading a lot of positive reviews, which mainly turned out to be for the last model that uses this devices same name.

I’ll start off by saying this thing feels really sturdy, built well in typical acer fashion. But i’m kind of surprised with how big the bezels are, they easily could’ve put a bigger screen in the thing. The screen that is installed though is plenty bright enough for my use, and is perfectly sharp at a typical viewing distance with good viewing angles. The touchscreen is kind of flaky in my experience, but that could be a problem with the user since some touchscreens just don’t like responding well to my fingers. Performance in typical use is perfectly fine, but don’t expect to do much gaming as it doesn’t have the power to run more intense android games smoothly. Wifi is very fast and signal is excellent. The ports provided are great, and i love that it can be charged from either usb-c port. The keyboard feels pretty good and the trackpad is about what you’d expect on a device like this.

Now where i am truly disappointed is in the fact that stylus support was removed from the last model of this system. I’m a bit of an artist and like to draw on occasion, even if it’s just playing a round of draw something to fix my itch. I thought drawing on this with an android app would be pretty nice compared to my note phone. And another person had already asked if this system supported an active stylus, which acer responded by saying yes. This thing absolutely does not support an active stylus. At least not an emr one like you find in samsung devices (s-pen) or a wacom stylus. I’m tempted to send this model back and order the older one since there doesn’t seem to be much difference between the n3350 and n4020 cpus.

I’ll also mention here that the indent for the second camera that goes above the keyboard for use in tablet mode is present, but there isn’t a camera. I was unsure what this indent was for until i did some more reading online and found a review for a pre-release version of this system. That included the camera and stylus. Seems they changed their minds on both features but didn’t bother to get rid of the indent.

Long story short, it’s a good little 2-in-1 but some design choices are odd for a device in 2020. Also many of the reviews out there are for the last model (n3350 cpu) or for pre-production test units that have features this thing actually doesn’t have (stylus and second camera). Also look at the true reviews closely as this thing is offered with the intel cpu (n4020), and amd cpu, and a mediatek cpu.
