One of the pictures indicates it can be connected to a computer, i assume via usb cable. Is that a correct assumption? If so , does the cable come wit
Purchased may 2017: i made the mistake of assuming this had a camera with usb computer because of the product description. In my opinion it is very misleading. You’re only getting a microscope, 1 extra eye piece, and an ac adapter. No other cables or slides included.
If my son put things like hair, or a penny, or grass under it, would he be able to see them? I know some microscopes have a top light for seeing these
This is what the manufacturer states: this is a perfect microscope for students to learn science. It comes with full optical glass elements, metal framework, 360 degree rotatable monocular head, coarse & fine focusing, and led illumination. It offers five magnification settings, 40x, 100x, 250x, 400x and 1000x. It is an ideal microscope for home school or for students from elementary to high school. Can this see sperm?
Yes, it is. You need 100x to see movement in general and 400x to see individual sperm. But, you will not be able to see great detail such as morphology, which required 6300x.
Is the led light dimmable?
Yes. There is a dial near the bottom.
What is the difference between this m150c and the amscope m160c-2l-pb10-wm 40x-1000x dual light glass lens metal frame student microscope with slides?
Essentially the same microscope, except it has an addl light–that illuminates the stage, where the slide goes.
Is this really 100% made of metal? Also, why does it claim to have 5 magnification levels – there are only 3 objective lens?
I’m a biology teacher. Here’s the correct math:
3 objective lenses: 4x, 10x, 40x
2 eyepiece lenses: 10x, 25x
compound microscopes use two lenses at the same time, so multiply each objective power by the power of the eyepiece. This should yield the following total magnifications: 40x, 100x, 400x, 100x, 250x, 1000x. One of the values for total magnification is repeated (100x), hence only five “magnification levels,” not six.

Does it come with slides
No it doesn’t
Are you able to plug this into a computer as shown? If so what cable is required?
No. What they are showing in the pictures is an optional usb microscope camera. The camera it’s self is over 100 usd iirc
I know this has been asked before, but there have been different answers- does this have a fine adjustment knob???
Yes-for fine focusing
I am trying to decide on this microscope vs. My first lab duoscope and other amscopes. Any suggestions? It is for my 11 year old son who loves science
I really don’t know. It’s a christmas gift for my 10 year old daughter. The reviews were good on it. That’s what made me decide to go with this one.
I want to view insects, leaves as well as cellular slides and prepared slides can i do that with this microscope? If not can you tell me one that will
I purchased this as a christmas present for my boyfriend. We both use it. It’s great for the price and wouldn’t recommend any other unless you’re looking to spend big money. We both enjoy it and are able to view just about anything that will fit on the slide. We also purchased the prepared slides from amazon. They are pretty good but it wasn’t the big wow i thought we’d see. We did find some stagnant water outside and put a few drops on a clean slide. When we viewed the water, it was awesome!! The wow we were looking for was found in a drop of old water. We could see all different kinds of things living and moving, and they were even pulling around the ‘greenery’ and hiding in it. You can also see ‘sperm’ on the slide, alive and swimming. The only issue we have, which isn’t really an issue at all, is that we wish we could have gotten a microscope that we can view on your computer screen. If you have trouble with your vision, i don’t recommend any microscope unless you can see it on the computer. This microscope definitely gets 5 stars , and well worth the price.

Does this microscope have ‘fine focus’ separated from coarse focus?
It does have fine focus, this is a great scope for those starting out. I bought it for my 7 year old , he loves it.
Do you have to use slides or can you put like insects or leaves on this?
You don’t have to use slides, but since the light source is under the slide tray, it will be difficult to see, unless they are thin enough for light to pass through. You can cut leaf pieces small enough to place on a slide and see the detail. This would be great for such things as still pond water with plenty of organisms, etc. If you are fixed on bugs and larger items like leaves, you may want to look at magnifiers that you can plug into a computer.

Does it have fine focus?
Yes, it does have both coarse and fine focus knobs. Btw it is a good microscope for the money. Well made. Hope this helps. Dave.
Can you use it with a canon eos camera?
My daughter takes her cell phone and takes pictures with it. She hasn’t tried my canon yet.
What accessories do you recommend purchasing with the microscope? I.e. Slides…
We have used it with our preschool age grandchildren and they are fascinated! But we ordered prepared and ‘blank’ slides to go with it.
I am debating whether to get the am scope m162 or the am scope 150 for my 9 year old son. Any recommendations?
Doubtless too late to benefit the original questioner here, but perhaps useful to others: the photos indicate that the two microscopes use different models of objectives: those on the m150 are labeled with their power, numerical aperture, optical tube length for which they were designed, and cover slip thickness for which they were corrected, in accordance with the din standard. Those on the m162 only show their magnification, which i suspect indicates that they are perhaps a cheaper version. The manual for the m160 series claims that they can use the same type of objectives and eyepieces as the m150, however, so perhaps it’s ok.

Could you use this to read blood smears and urine sediment?
I looked at blood and was able to see basic outline, but not detailed. Did not try urine.
Does it have a light under the slide? Can u see blood? Like lyme?
Yes there is a led which illuminates the slide – works quite well. You can see human cells from a cheek swab. I have also seen human blood cells. I’m not sure if you can see lyme. In general bacteria are far too small to see very clearly. I can see small tiny ‘dots’ which may or may not be actual bacteria – but still pretty useless since you can’t see any morphological features – even at 1000x.

Does it have a moveable stage
Yes it moved up and down. I have been very happy with this item for my high school homeschool daughter.
