ARCTIC FOX Vegan and Cruelty-Free Semi-Permanent Hair Color Dye (8 Fl Oz, PURPLE AF)

Amount needed & mixture:
i was going for a cherry cola type of color, so i actually mixed frose and virgin pink (2 parts frose, 1 part virgin pink). To cover my whole head, it took half of a big bottle (8 oz) of frose and half of a small bottle (4 oz) of virgin pink.

Color payoff:
i had tried using frose alone, but it didn’t really show up on my hair. However, virgin pink was so vibrant that even a small amount of it really went a long way for me, and i was satisfied with the color payoff when mixing it with frose. I plan to continue making a mixture with frose and virgin pink and would highly recommend it for anyone with darker hair.

Smell & formula:
this product does have an artificial grape smell that sticks around for a few days after you wash your hair, but i personally love it. I also found it super moisturizing, it left my hair silky soft – you can see how much healthier it looks in the “right after dying” pic.

Longevity:
the product did fade over time as i washed my hair (i did use cold water only). However, i really don’t think it faded too fast. As i’m typing this, i’ve washed it about 10 times and i still have some color left. The color did not transfer to my sheets or clothes.

Overall, i absolutely loved this stuff. I would highly recommend using it over a balayage like i did if you have darker hair. This has saved me lots of money i would have otherwise spent at the salon – i have already repurchased, and i plan to continue doing so. I highly recommend that you give it a try!

So i have tried a number of fun color hair dyes the past couple years. Recently i thought to try something that arctic fox (i tried hayley williams’ brand) and that dye just was terrible. It was not consistent and faded to blue in some parts and red on others. I had lightened my hair to nearly white prior to and had no other dye so it sucked. But after i waited for that to fade as much as possible, i touched up my root lightening and then threw on purple af. I left it on for over an hour with a developer cap to keep my head warm and moist. I could not be happier. Won’t be using any other brand ever again!

Pros: super vibrant, smells amazing, makes my hair feel really good after

cons: stains like a mofo for the first couple of days but if you get a good color shampoo and conditioner (particularly a conditioner that will seal in the moisture to your hair) it will stop bleeding off when you shower or onto your clothes pillowcases, etc.

Best advice- put vaseline around your skin near your hairline, have a washcloth handy, and wear gloves. Life is too short to not have fun with your hair!

I love this purple hair color. Very easy to apply. Smells so good, kind of fruity. I leave this on for two hours for the best results. I use in my hair and my hair extensions. Every color i’ve tried in this brand is very pigmented and beautiful color everytime. The lighter parts of my hair gets very bright, the darker parts are a little more muted but there is a purple tint. I like that its safe hair color. The price is reasonable. This stuff does run, so try to wash it out really well. I wash this out in the shower and it does take some scrubbing to get out of my tiled floor. But it’s worth it for purple hair.

I bought this because prior to covid i always did a pop of pink for “pinktober.” as a breast cancer survivor i take pride in it. But i am also immune suppressed and my husband is undergoing chemotherapy so we are both extremely susceptible to germs. I am not comfortable going to a salon where people aren’t wearing masks and hot air is blowing everywhere. So i purchased this, and also the bleach to lighten my hair before applying this. I did have to apply it twice, likely my own error though because it’s hard to do this on yourself, especially since it’s just the 2 pieces and not my whole head. I am so pleasantly surprised at how vibrant it came out and all things considered, it was pretty easy to use. I only just did it so i can’t speak to the lasting power but as a curly girl, i only wash my hair once a week so i expect it to last a while. I will update after some time has passed. I was indeed doubtful, but just look at this color!

I switched to this dye after my friend recommended it to me. I use to use unicorn color same type but didn’t last as long. This dye is so vibrant even on dark hair my hair color is like a medium/light brown with a redish tint to it. I got this and omg i opend the box and i could smell its sweet fruity smell before i even opened the double sealed bottle. And the color omg is is so beautiful and vibrant it lasts in my hair for about a month or so but i have to wash my hair every other day so it’ll probably last longer and i buy the 12oz bottle and only used half the bottle to cover my whole head and i have medium thick hair and its just a bit past my shoulders. I highly recommend this hair dye to everyone that is looking for a safe vegan cruelty free product that don’t require any bleaching and smells amazing

The first picture is the day after i dyed it (september 28), and the last photo is today. (oct 5) i would say it’s lasted pretty well, although i got a much more pink color then i expected. It was very easy to apply, and it smells amazing
when i swam for the first time, i smelled some candy like scent. I was like: what is that? But i figured out it was my hair. It actually didn’t stain my scalp or neck, because i used a bit a vaseline on the edges of my face, neck, etc. And it worked like a charm! I would def recommend this, i still have plenty of dye left after doing a whole head of hair.

I bought the color ritual and it is absolutely stunning! I had previously lightened hair, about a level 9. This color was super easy to apply especially after watching a few youtube videos. I left my color on for about an hour before i rinsed it and the saturation came out perfect. My hair is also super soft and shiny after using this. I added some of the leftovers to a bottle of conditioner to help keep my color fresh between colorings. The color will also last longer if you continue to wash it in cold water only. I’ll definitely be using this color again. Highly recommend!

Fantastic dye. Compared to other brands we’ve used, it is thick and gel-like. We got this to use on already bleached hair where previous dye had completely disappeared from. It stuck to the hair extremely well and was easy to use at home. Even took on dark brown hair – you could see the purple highlights. Seemed to rinse out heavily and i was worried it was not going to hold but it turned out perfect. Bright and vibrant. Lasted for over a month, even when occasionally exposed to chlorine in a pool.

Purple hair is the very first time i used the dye and i left it on the amount it says (now i let it sit a little longer) and magenta is 3-4 months after i originally dyed it. The dye doubles as a deep conditioner and leaves my hair fuller and softer. It smells great- no chemical smells at all and smells like grapes. I find it easy to remove from white countertops and showers with bleach if you spill. I dont wash my hair every day, thus i only have to re-dye my hair 3-4 times a year to keep it between deep purple and magenta. Cannot recommend this product enough.

I shaved my head, bleached using artic fox kit and dyed it all the same day. 5 weeks later after washing my hair almost every day my color is still pretty visible and just now is starting to show the blonde. The color does run when i wash it but it has never stained my clothes or pillows. I live in florida so it gets hot here so if you start to sweat the color runs but i carry a cloth and while it stained the cloth it washed right out when i did laundry. Oh, and it smells really nice too. I have left over bleach and dye i will try to touch it up at some point. Overall, i love this brand, it was my first time using it but not the last. I can’t wait to try some other colors!

I needed to refresh my professionally-done coloring, so i tried this brand because i liked the available colors and the cruelty-free production.
#1 is my hair after a week at the beach and 13 weeks after a salon lightening and coloring that started as beautiful deep blue with violet streaks.
#2 is the day after using 1 part blue jean baby mixed with 2 parts poseidon and after my first wash.
#3 is 5 weeks later, after washing my hair no more than every other day with sulfate-free color safe shampoo.
I’m still new at hair coloring so this is the first coloring i’ve done myself and i did like the immediate result, though i do wish it had stayed vibrant for longer. The dyes made my hair feel great and i didn’t experience and skin staining (i did wear gloves). My pillowcase is a little more blue than it was before and my tub and shower curtain were tinted a little blue too, but i didn’t have any other fabrics or clothing affected. I used maybe 1/3 of the total dye i bought (2-8oz bottles) so i’m looking forward to playing with the ratios of light and dark blue dyes to see what i get next time.

I have reddish hair, probably maybe a 5 or a little lighter maybe on those hair charts that don’t show any red tints.
Using purple rain, my hair is a nice purple in good lighting, not super vibrant since i didn’t bleach it. In dim lighting it just has a more darker, brown-black look which also looks good.

Rinsed out the dye for 1/2 an hour, thought i had it all. Couple hours later undid my hair from the tshirt wrap i had it in and combed it, hand was then purple so i rinsed another 1/2 hour, and let it dry, went ot bed. Today, i’ve had to rinse it again but far less dye came out. Using cold water each time.

My hair is really long to/slightly-past my natural waist line, i didn’t dye 100% of my hair, intented to dye just sort of halfway up but it kind of didn’t go that way and i might as well have dyed it all and may just use the remaining dye to finish off the top of my head so i don’t look like i just didn’t bother finishing the whole thing off. I wanted my natural hair to still be showing but that didn’t really work out as planned. Hard to dye my hair w/o glasses on and no one there to tell me just how high up did the dye just go on the back of my head.

If you’re dying your hair with purple rain, i’d recommend not drinking the berry version in the black bottle of body armour electrolyte drink at the same time. They smell the same, and somehow, it’s just sort of gross. (the drink is amazing, just… Not when the dye is also on my head and then i’m drinking something that smells the same, nearly choked it up out my nose)

my hair looks cool though, and i wish i could find a non-harsh way to easily lighten my hair that wasn’t hydrogen peroxide, lemon-in-the-sun (and not 80’s spray in stuff either), or actual bleach kits. I did do two honey/cardamom rounds but i’m not real sure if those actually held out from the time i did them to the time i dyed my hair, there was about a month gap. I really want to do pink and blue but i don’t think those will work on my hair at all, especially not the brightness i am after. My asthma won’t be able to handle the smell of chemical bleaching.

I’ve no idea what ‘drying power’ in the rating means, it did not dry my hair out at all, but myhair is not dry to start with, it’s just normal. So i rated that a 1. Did not rate longevity, i only dyed it yesterday, still rinsing out excess dye so i can tell you it requires a whole lot of rinsing.

I saw all kinds of yt comments saying how they never have to rinse their hair much, but i noticed those are all on pastel type videos. Kind of wonder if people are really not having to rinse and maybe my hair just doesn’t absorb the dye, i use sulfate free shampoo no conditioner or anything prior. Or if they just don’t see the dye running off because it’s pastel, where as this purple rain is pretty easy to see until the end when it’s kind of hard to tell is it the sink that’s faintly purple or the water. I quit when paper towels patted on my hair stayed white, so i don’t know why i have to keep going back to re-rinse it. No idea where the dye is coming from.

I have me so energy is very low, honestly this was exhausting in every way, but seeing as i don’t need to wash my hair as often as i used to before becoming ill, hopefully the color will last a while. Dying long thick hair is a lot of work it turns out. If anyone has any non-harsh ways of lightening lvl 5 reddish-brown hair, that won’t hopefully set off asthma i’d love to know, even if it’s just keeping at the honey method if that really does work i’ll keep at it. I want pink and turquoise hair so much 🙂

I used wrath red, hoping it’d come out a nice dark red on my brownish-ginger-ish hair color without any lightening or bleaching. It worked about like i’d thought! I really liked the color. I’d never colored my hair before, and it was a treat. It smelled nice. Be careful about staining. The color did look quite different in different lights, but still fun. Sadly, it did not last very long despite color-safe shampoo and conditioner and trying to go without showering for longer than usual. I definitely needed a bleach spray to keep the color from staining the shower. After three or four washes it began to fade in patches. Still fun for a short experience, though.
I also tried turquoise and purple af. Sadly, purple ended up being very hard to tell. Nearly black except in certain lights. I think those were too much for my natural hair color and would need bleaching to really pop.

i bought this brand as a recommendation from a friend. Integrity-wise, it’s not a bad product (which is why i’m still giving it a 4-star rating) but i would still never buy it again.

I’m pretty experienced when it comes to dying my hair, especially wild colours. I usually stick to permanent dyes but my interest was piqued. I had people and reviews telling me it was unlike any other semi-permanent dye they’d ever tried – it was better looking than permanent, lasted long and vibrantly, didn’t bleed as much, and was high-quality – i believe these claims were stretched.

The pros and cons are my opinions based on my experience after a few weeks and geared towards others, like myself, who usually use permanent dyes and have been recommended this product:

pros:
– since it’s not developer based and has conditioning qualities, you can touch it up as often as you need to
– also because of its lack of various chemicals, it’s a much wetter dye and that allows you to be a bit less careful about splitting your hair because you can massage it into strands you may have missed
– while i didn’t do this, because it’s not a developer dye you can add conditioner to adjust its hue
– while it’s a bit messy (like all hair dye), it didn’t stain my grout (a few stray drops tinted my sink, but because it’s only semi-perm, they came off after a couple days of washing my hands)
– also a perk of the semi-permanent, comes off the skin pretty quickly (for safety as well as avoiding having technicolour dalmatian spots, you should protect your skin when dying your hair – in my case, i work from home so i don’t get stressed when i accidentally dye my chin or forearm. Semi-perm dyes, including this one, come off in the first washing so you don’t have to worry about someone thinking you popped your kid one because you were dying their hair purple)

cons:
– the scent. I knew it’d be scented, but i wasn’t sure what to expect because everyone seemed to have a different opinion of what it smelled like. If you have a sensitive olfactory sense as i do, i wouldn’t recommend it. For me, it smelled like artificial grape (sodas, candy, children’s perfumes and lipbalms) and actually made me a bit nauseous. It’s strong, too. With the bottle completely sealed, it still filled my bathroom with the unpleasant aroma in the day before i opened it. After several washings, my hair still smells like grape. That being said, during the actual dying process, i dabbed a bit of vaseline under my nose and it worked pretty well at keeping it at bay.
– like all semi-permanent dyes, it constantly bleeds. I don’t wash my hair every day but after a few weeks it’s still bleeding in the shower (i’m disappointed by this because i was informed bleeding wasn’t as huge of an issue with this particular brand – nope, it is.)
– a pro or con depending on how you look at it: the colour was disappointing for me. When i experiment with a new dye, i don’t like to adjust it too much so i can observe what it’s like in its base form so i know how to adjust it in the future. I’d decided to go with pink because while i’ve had my hair most colours of the rainbow, i’d never done pink before. I really wanted somewhere between barbie and hot pink. The pro is: the colour that it comes out of the bottle is the exact colour my hair ended up being (keeping in mind i used this on blonde hair). The con is: it’s not pink, it’s fuschia. Much more purple than it is pink. However, you can mix the base dye with conditioner and other colours to get the hue you’d prefer.
– as it fades, it doesn’t seem to so much be lightening as other dyes would, but streaking out altogether
– quality-wise, not much different than something like manic panic, which i don’t have a high opinion of (but at least manic panic doesn’t smell terrible).

Tl;dr
ultimately, this is a fine semi-permanent dye and is great for kids who want a wild colour for over the summer but need it to be gone by the time school starts and folks who are newer to dying their hair (or people who are actually concerned with whether or not their hair dye is vegan – i, personally, do not care). This would also be a good choice for people with very fine hair or who have undergone chemoradiation and have not been able to dye their hair fancy colours because of the harsh chemicals in most dyes. For everyone else, despite the hype, the only thing that makes it different from any other semi-perm you could buy for $4.99 at a rite aid is its terrible grape scent (which is a pro or con depending on your personal opinion) and it being a vegan product. I saw some reviews from people saying they were introduced to this brand because of a salon – if i ever paid to get my hair done at a salon, i would be furious if the colourist brought this brand out in lieu of something like ion. Experienced folks who like long-lasting bright profession colours should probably ignore this product and just stick to permanent dyes.

I got the virgin pink color, and oh my goodness….this is super vibrant. I was totally blown away by how pigmented this was.

This is the first time i’ve ever done anything bold with my hair. I’ve always kept my hair pretty natural or had the typical ho-hum blonde highlights. Needless to say, this was a huge step out of my comfort zone, but i’m so glad i did it.

I started out with partially blonde hair, with yellow, orange and brown undertones. I followed the directions, and coated my hair in very small sections. I left it on for 30 minutes, blow dried for 15, and rinsed with cool water. I took a few before and after pictures, so you can see how vibrant it is.

It’s been about a month now, and the color is just now starting to fade. That is with frequent washes and several trips to the pool/beach!

My only complaint, (and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5) is that it rubs off easily on your pillows/sheets. I’ve been using a backup set of sheets, but i do miss my nice sheets. If it didn’t rub off, i’d consider using this more frequently.

I have slightly reddish (looks red only in sunlight) darker brown hair so i wasn’t expecting this to be a vibrant color on me. My goal was to just have a subtle plum color, subtle enough that it’s not obvious on first glance in softer/indoor lighting but it’s more noticeable in bright/daylight & this fully delivered exactly what i was after so i’m super pumped about that! Also it lasted only as long as a temporary dye is supposed to – a few weeks of the color i was aiming for, followed by a few weeks of it gradually fading back to my natural color. This is also what i wanted because this was just a trial run for me to see if i like my hair that color & want to go more permanent. (i did leave the product in to process for about 3+ hours before rinsing it out since i saw that other reviewers recommended leaving it on longer.) so the only reason i knocked off a star is that every time i showered (not even shampooed), it turned the bottom of my shower curtain & the bottom of the tub (especially around the drain) a lovely magenta shade of pink. I’m very adamant about keeping my shower clean (i just don’t feel clean if the shower i use isn’t clean), so this was just rather annoying. It does come off very easily with bleach & a melanine sponge (magic eraser) so my shower didn’t stay pink for very long afterwards, but it was just a nuisance to deal with. Also i applied the product in my rather small bathroom & there were some spots on the white wall, white baseboard, white sink, light grey cabinet, & light colored wood laminate flooring & i was able to easily get most of those spots cleared up with bleach & a melanine sponge. There’s only 2 tiny very very faint spots that turned a very pale yellow color on the baseboard & wall; i honestly don’t think anyone would see the ones on the baseboard unless i pointed them out. (definitely test in a very inconspicuous spot before you dive in using this method though.) lastly i thought this smelled great while i was waiting for it to process! I’m sure it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s definitely not the worst smell not matter what & you only experience the scent while it’s processing & during the 1st shower, maybe faintly during the 2nd shower.. Overall i would definitely buy this again if i wanted a temporary color & i would just apply the product in my shower so that i don’t have to worry about it getting on anything else in the bathroom.

As you can see, my hair is pretty long & it’s dense & hair dressers have always told me that my hair really likes to just soak up color & they end up using way more than they typically do & i was still able to get away with using just one bottle & it seemed fully saturated.

Definitely came out more red than i was expecting; if you want a bit more of an orange add some conditioner to lighten it, but otherwise the pigment is perfect it smells wonderful and it applied really well! I have shoulder length hair thats decently thick and the 4oz works perfect for coverage (though 8oz is so useful to have spares for whenever reapply is necessary!) arctic fox is genuinely a wonderful product :3

Its very easy to use, color is vibrant and bright. The smell is amazing (unlike most hair dyes – this smells like grape not chemical) it does fade quickly however didnt leave stains on my towels! I def reccomend and feel its better for your hair over splatt.

We were worried the purple wouldn’t show up well on dark brown hair but the subtleness of the highlights looks great! My daughter was very pleased. We wrapped in foil and let sit for 1hr. The color only last for 1-2 weeks, depending on the amount of washing.

I like how so pink it looks at first and it smells great! But it doesn’t last even a week if you want a longer lasting color it probably won’t be pink!
