Well made. I haven’t tried it in extreme cold yet, but experience with outdoor gear leads me to believe that it will. Considering purchasing a second one as a spare.

I had initially ordered the medium because i’ve been told i have a big head. However, these are supposed to fit very snug and the medium was loose around the face, which is exactly what you don’t want. So i returned the medium ones and ordered the smalls which fit just right. I bought two of these (my 1st 2 balaclavas ever) in preparation for my snowmobiling adventure through yellowstone last month, and they worked great. I’m very interested in seeing how they perform while skiing, but sadly i didn’t make it to the slopes this year due to work and other commitments.
*one nice thing i’d like to point out is just how easy the return process has become at amazon. I started the return process online for the too-big mediums, and then just took them to my local khols department store and was refunded on the spot.

I have a small head and this is way too big so it makes the mask part just go into my eyes. It’s also not friendly to glasses. I had hoped the holes for the mouth would help both breathing be made easier and also my glasses not to dog but it doesn’t do either thing. It might be because of the size and fit not working at all but i can’t tell. I wish someone made a smaller, half one with just an open mouth so my nose could stay warm but i could still breathe air and not fog my glasses.

I purchased two of these for my fiancé. He works in a 20 degree freezer. He likes these better than the the company issued ones

This mask is quite good, well for me at least. I wear it for protection at my job to prevent from anything from getting on my face. Comfortability needs work though as it can get itchy sometimes.

Small fits the kids great

I bought this and used on for a ski trip where the temp was -10f. I did use a very thin balaclava under it and together kept me warm. Two things to mention; the area of the mouth is just a thin mesh. Very good for breathing but not for warmth. It’s an either/or preference. Would be very nice if it had a flexible piece in the nose bridge to hold it’s shape better. The biggest drawback for me was that the overall length seems much shorter than pictured. I was hoping it would be long enough to cover well below my chin down to my chest area so when i zip up my jacket i would be fully protected. I’d really like to find one that is cut and tailored to be chin strap friendly with a ski helmet so as not to bunch up. Makes it even shorter when you buckle up. I do see that this same company does make one that may fit the bill but what the call a large is only for a 19-20.5′ head. I wear a large helmet 22-24′ and was a little tight going over this but not overly uncomfortable.

My dad takes his dog for a 40 minute walk every single morning even in the dead of the winter when the temp reaches -20° so a ski mask/balaclava is def necessary. I got this for him to replace his older one because he complained about his other one not being very breathable and not as warm as it could be. This one is fleece and has a mesh mouth covering which is perfect! He layers it under his hat and says it’s great. Only issue is the nose band is weirdly large and kind of hovers over the face? He can’t wear his glasses with it but he really likes the breathability. Would recommend but maybe have the nose part fixed as it seems to b an issue for a lot of ppl in the reviews!

It’s not quite cold enough where i am to really need this yet, but i wore it around for a bit to get a feel for how it fits. I found it to be slightly too big in some areas. Since this is made as a ‘one size fits all’ basis, there are no other sizes to try for a better fit. The only option would be to return it, and the fit isn’t bad enough to do that.

In particular, it is too loose in the chin and jaw area. The cap portion fits me pretty well, so it seems like it was targeted at a head shape a bit different from mine, with a more pronounced jaw and chin. Something like jay leno, or thanos, perhaps. Also fits a bit too tight across the nose.

I wear glasses. Other reviews are mixed on reporting whether or not glasses tend to fog when wearing this mask. Based on some quick testing, i would say they are both right. When i put the balaclava on, i found that i was getting some slight fogging. However, if i pull the mask a little tighter under my eyes, the fogging stops. If it fits well on your face, the mask is designed well for preventing fogging. However, if it fits you a little more loosely, the air you exhale will sometimes take the path of least resistance, going up under your glasses instead of through the mesh. That being said, in my case it was only a slight fogging – nothing i can’t live with. I noticed that it tends to gradually ride up closer to my eyes than i would like for comfort, but when it does so the fogging is reduced.

I got this primarily for occasional use, to keep my face and ears warm while working outside in cold weather. The fit isn’t perfect, but it’s good enough for my application and worth what i paid for it. If i were using it for something more athletic, or using it more often, i might want something a little better fitting. But for keeping my face warm while trimming trees and raking leaves every now and then, it should do a good job.

I work on an open dock and needed a new balaclava for this winter as my usual one is a little lackluster in certain aspects. I plan on wearing ski goggles over this and my glasses to keep my face totally warm. This astroai one fits nicely over my big head. Just as warm as other balaclava’s i’ve owned. The other ones served me well in the cold, so i know this one will do the same since it feels just like the others and is made from the same material.
How does it fit an ordinary, but slightly larger head? I’m 5′ 10′ and it fits nice. It’s slightly tight around the neck and smushes my nose a little bit, but not too much that it’ll be annoying during an 8 hour shift. The nose smushing is the one thing my other balaclava’s never did. But they didn’t have the versatility of comfort. The astroai balaclava has nice jointing to adjust covering your head and face without sacrificing your neck to the cold.
It has to do with the way the top head portion is sewn in with the lower portion. It feels to me like the lower portion is to fit while the upper portion for your head is more adjustable (if that makes sense).
I’ve added this balaclava to my ‘work’ shopping list in hopes it will be available for the long foreseeable future. I’d recommend this to anybody who has to work outdoors.
I subtracted 1 star because of the nose smushing. But it’s not really a big deal. Could have used a slight ‘poking out’ in the design for that.
