Looking for specific info?

Does it have an internal nvme slot for a larger boot ssd?

Yes, it has an nvme drive slot inside. I added a 1tb samsung 980 evo, and after verifying it was visible in the bios (hit f2 during post to enter the bios), it recognized it in windows. You’ll want to enter disk manager in windows to configure it.

You have to remove the screws on the cover, to add the drive, and it’s pretty easy to miss the slot.

The more annoying thing is, it doesn’t look like there’s any spot to upgrade the ram however.

Upgrading the nvme drive is a nice improvement, as the 64gb that comes with it is actually emmc storage, which is a lot slower the pci nvme.

Can you play games from steam on it?

It is a very very slow computer with not much memory on it. I think you’d be better off with a different computer. Mine was slow right out of the box and basically useless to me

Can you play minecraft on here?

Yes, you can. I don’t see any reason not. It’s probably the only game (or maybe solitaire) that you can play on it. But it has a nice 1080p screen, and 4gb of ram, and minecraft isn’t a large game (it’s got a very small amount of space available on it). But, minecraft is only a few hundred mb and each game world is about 1gb.

I’d definitely recommend an external mouse to use while playing the game.

Don’t know which one you have but there were some listed when i wanted to use my lexmark printer. But mine was too old (lexmark x3650). I don’t have the computer anymore. Good bet for low priced lap top

The ad in amazon reads windows 10s, but the os is windows 11s. The lap top is easy to use but slower than the core 3 that it replaced.

Nice

This is a great little laptop for the money. Thin and lightweight, it’s easy to use and carry around. Even after spending an additional $30 to add 500gb storage, it’s still a great value.

All around perfect budget laptop for school!

The original asus i purchased i had to return. It was slow, the screen resolution poor so i was hesitant to purchase asus again, but the price was excellent thanks to amazon prime days. I just received it and it is perfect for me. I’m not a gamer, or into heavy graphics. It can lag a bit when i have a lot of applications open, but it is much faster than my old laptop. If you need a basic laptop that has great screen size and resolution, a numbers pad, and a decently fast processor this asus is for you. Great for college.

Not the best,but works ok

Took some time to program, but seems to do what they say. Not as fast as i would like, needless to say i’m gonna return, and i truly hate to say,i don’t think i’ll be getting another asus laptop. Too dang slow

Updated review….was ticked about no backlit keyboard as advertised but getting over it

This baby can really perform (for limited tasks only) notice the 64g storage….its small ! The keyboard functionality is good, chip is decent and the startup quick. Got the screen looking best possible (again decent). At this price point it’s great for those needing windows os (like me). Use it as a work at home back up to my i mac that handles the brunt of my needs. Don’t know if the free windows is worth loading i’ve cut everything i can and have only 25.2g remaining storage (and don’t plan on adding anything unless absolutely necessary). I think it reserves 5-7g for ms updates so that helps. Rating a 4…up from a 2!

Overall a good laptop for its price

I bought this brand a couple years ago and i still use it now, it runs a little slower and freezes up a lot but given that i only paid around 200$ for the laptop, the fact that it still runs relatively fine 2 1/2 years later is incredible. I highly recommend this brand if you want a good laptop for a cheaper price.

Good for browsing the web and light tasks

I’m typing my review on this laptop, and i think it’s good for browsing the web and some light tasks.

Pros:
1) lightweight and thin – 15” at under 3.5 lbs
2) matte screen – anti-glare
3) easily get out of s mode
4) comes with a year of free office 365
5) no loud fan noise
6) good speaker
7) not as slow as expected, good for light tasks and web browsing and youtube
8) fast internet

cons:
1) dislike the way numeric pad layout, needs getting used to
2) no backlit keyboard
3) not enough storage
for the price, i can’t complain. Been using it for a few months now and no problems so far.

Not as advanced as i had hoped

I ordered this for selling items online. I have a couple sites that i sell homemade items on. This laptop is slow, and doesn’t seem to have the capability to handle some things as well as a higher end laptop would. I ordered this, thinking it was like a normal laptop, but its not. Its much more restricted. If you are looking for a laptop for a senior citizen or a young teen, this is a good one to get, but if you want to do certain things on it, you might look for something with more capability.

Has hidden potential.

These type of computers don’t make much sense to me, they are literally only meant to have a usable life of about 1 year for the 64gig and about 2 years for the 128gig. The reason this is, is because the storage is soldered to the motherboard. To give you an example, this is like buying a car with a full tank of gas at a low price but the gas tank being sealed to where you couldn’t add no more gas. I’ll explain in more detail why they have a short use life and why this laptop has potential.

Emmc storage- laptops like these use soldered storage called emmc, i personally stay away from this storage because i’ve seen how useless laptops that have it get after very little use. The average size these will have is 64 and 128 gigs. I would absolutely stay away from the 64 gig ones if possible. You may consider getting one anyways because you aren’t going to store much in it but the issue is that you don’t actually get 64 or 128 gigs. The operating system needs to use storage so out of the box most of the storage is already being taken up. I got the 64 gig version and after updates i was left with 20 usable gigs of storage.

Updates- even if you don’t install a single program or don’t save a single thing on it, the storage will still eventually get used up by updates alone. This is the reason i say that these laptops have a usable life of about 1 year for 64 and 2 years for 128 gig versions. I’ve had laptops like these with about 10mb of storage left with error messages about updates not being installed because of insufficient storage. System files such as updates can’t be stored externally so they will just be no way to update anymore which will make these laptops useless.

Potential- the potential this laptop has is that they decided to add an extra nvme port on the motherboard. This means that you can easily install more storage where you can either clone or do a clean install of windows. I don’t have a compatible storage drive but there is a video online that shows it’s doable on this laptop model. After doing so you even have the internal storage as extra storage. This laptop having this option gives it a way longer usable life than a regular emmc laptop but it does require a compatible drive and know how.

Might seem slow out the box- another issue people will have on the first use which might make the laptop seem slow is how windows handles updates and security. My previous laptop has been running windows 8.1 because i hated how windows 10 made it run. Windows 10 is more aggressive with security so it will run heavy scans and updates at start up or when it feels like it. There were a few updates to how the system implemented these actions but i just kept windows 8.1 because i hated windows 10 so much by then. Windows 11 looks to have eased off on these actions by letting you choose when it does them but it first start up it will update which will make the computer seem slow out the box.

After it was done updating i also installed my own antivirus because the second thing that makes newer windows systems slow is start up scans, installing your own antivirus shuts down windows defender which makes the laptop run even better. After updates and disabling windows defender i was able to get a feel of the laptop’s performance and it has been working pretty fine so far, it does have low storage because of the updates but i’ll eventually upgrade that which should in theory make it run faster because of the improvements from that storage type.

The keyboard feels fine and the trackpad also works fine. There are only two usb ports but there is also a usb-c port. The screen looks pretty nice because it’s 1080p. The minor issue it has was the color. It has a blue tint but it was easy to fix using the included intel software, i adjusted the brightness/contrast and lowered the blue value and it looks really good now. Start up is very quick but it’s expected form not using a mechanical drive. The ram is soldered and not upgradable but 4 seems enough to me because it’s a basic laptop.

My previous laptop i got in 2013 has a 5th gen i5 cpu and intel hd 4000 integrated graphics and i feel that this laptop keeps up pretty closely, it has less cores but the graphics are said to be about the same. Neither this or my previous laptop would be good at gaming unless you want to play a low power game like left4dead or a simple rpg game but for productivity and streaming entertainment it should work perfectly fine.

The huge upside to this laptop is that it comes with one year free of microsoft 365 which is a $70 value and it also comes with a one year warranty that covers damage and water from asus. Overall i would have rated this laptop very poorly because i hate emmc storage but the nvme port does actually make this a pretty decent laptop.
