What is there difference between black and black – new? I am concerned that one might be used and i want a new one.

“black new” is a revised/upgraded design. They changed the lid screen to a more durable all-metal construction. The old design used a partially plastic screen which was prone to breaking.

Is there a silicon or other soft plastic seal at the very bottom that comes into contact with the water?

As far as i can tell by look and feel, there is a seal between the glass walls and the metal bottom that seems to be silicon or other soft plastic. It is just around the edge and the amount in contact with the water is tiny, but it’s at the bottom where the vigorous boiling occurs so it could be a problem for you if this is an allergy situation.

Does the base have cord storage to keep the counter neat when not in use?

Can you brew the tea directly in this pot?

You could, but i wouldn’t.
Would you wait until the water boils and then put in the tea, or put the tea in and then boil the water?
It’s far better to boil the water in the kettle and then brew the tea in its own teapot or cup.
That way the kettle is free to boil more water right away and you don’t have to worry about cleaning the kettle.

What is there difference between black and black – new? I am concerned that one might be used and i want a new one .

I pulled up the listing on amazon and do not see where it says ‘black – new’. I think they are all new unless you specifically clicked on the ‘used’ section.

‘it’s normal if your kettle exposes spots or rust on the stainless steel bottom after the first use if the water quality in your area is so hard. ’??

Spots are caused by minerals in the water. If the quality of the water being used is not very good, or if the water is very hard (has a lot of minerals), it could have caused the mineral buildup to happen. You can attempt filtering the water before boiling to see if it helps reduce the appearance of these spots.

Is it safe to use in colombia? If not, what’s the issue?

Very safe, with auto shutdown after water boils. It does require a 110v receptacle.

Best. Kettle. Ever.

I can’t even begin to tell you how much i love this tea kettle. As a southerner, i grew up on fresh-brewed iced tea and as an adult, i go through about a gallon a day, lol!

How do i love thee, maker of my tea? Let me count the ways…

I love that you have a built-in metal strainer, so in the rare instances a tea bag breaks, my tea isn’t ruined by tea grounds.
I love that you have a pretty blue ring that lets me know i didn’t forget to turn you on. (i’ve done before!)
i love that you have a big capacity and are designed so well that even when boiling, nothing escapes out the spout and onto my kitchen counter. (that’s happened in the past too!)
and i love that, for reasons i can’t even imagine, my tea brews stronger and is darker than it’s ever been before. And i really, really believe i love that about you the most!

Great kettle, and if something ever happens to it, i’ll be replacing it with the exact same one! Highly recommend!

Boils cold water in 4 minutes. Metallic spout strainer…not plastic.

November 2022 update:
i still haven’t used my second pot, yet. The first pot is still going strong. Occasionally, the lid gets sticky, and is difficult to open, but it’s an occasional issue. My water heater blew a few days before thanksgiving, and this little fella picked up the slack! It heated water for dishes, and made thanksgiving bearable.

April 2022 update:
after almost a year of using the pot, it became difficult to switch on. I immediately bought a duplicate; because, dang it! I love this pot! After i put in the order, i was demonstrating to my husband how it doesn’t turn on, and it turned on! My only explanation of what was happening was that something got wet and it hadn’t dried out yet. I do tend to shoot the water from the tap across the counter into the pot…just to make housework more fun. Maybe i should stop doing that, because water can get into the handle.

If your pot suddenly stops working, my suggestion is to unplug it and briefly take a blow dryer to the electric base and the pot’s base. If you have time, forget the blow dryer, and just set it aside to dry naturally.

Many of my appliances, when over heated or wet, will cut off and become unusable until it cools or dries out.

At least i have another pot. If this gets wet again, i can replace it with the new pot until this one dries out. I’m thinking of buying another pot just for the purpose of boiling eggs. That way, i won’t have to worry about bacteria getting in the coffee.

July 2021 update…so, yes, just like others have reported, about a month or so after using it, it suddenly wouldn’t turn on. No light, no heat. But i’m not one to sit idly by, and accept a setback as my new reality. No, sirree! If i’m going to throw something out, i’m going to figure out the cause of the setback so i can repair it. In this case, the first ring around the protruding pin at the center of the bottom of the carafe became rusted. The rust blocks a current between the base and the carafe, preventing the unit from working effectively. If you place the pot at a different angle (place the pot with your alternate hand, for instance), it may work. At any rate, i simply used a fine-grade sand sponge and sanded off the rust. Steel wool may work, also; but it is a very precise and microscopic job, either way. After i sanded off the rust, i blew off the rust residue and added a thin coat of coconut oil to prevent further rusting. So far, so good. I added pictures to point out the rust. As for the white spots inside the pot, that’s going to happen if you have hard water. Hey, you didn’t hear about people in the 16th century complaining about spots in their water boiler, did you? Of course not! Those lucky people didn’t have to deal with water spots, because they carried their water in from the creek and poured it in an iron kettle. I’m sure you can find an iron kettle on amazon. I’m not sure where your closest creek is. Maybe google maps can show you…or…you can buy white vinegar or just pretend the spots aren’t there.

Mild update: since i’m correcting typos that i failed to catch earlier, i will say as of today, june 14, 2021 the coconut oil appears to be holding its own. I added a wee bit more, but the kettle hasn’t stopped or failed to start since i applied the first thin coat.

Older review: i love it! My last water boiler almost caught my house on fire, leaked and the water sloshed out of the spout. This water boiler pours very smoothly and boils 1 liter of cold water in four minutes. I haven’t timed warm water, but i will confirm it’s going to be less than four minutes.
The blue light is ok; not as spectacular as i thought it would be. But i didn’t buy this for entertainment.
The spout strainer pulls forward, covering the spout when you close the lid. When you open the lid, it has a spring that allows the strainer to be moved down for filling water. It doesn’t stay down, but it won’t snap off when you’re trying to fill the carafe, which was its intended purpose, i believe. It is made of metal, so you don’t have to worry about poisoning your family with seeping plastic chemicals. In fact, nothing on or in this pot that comes in contact with liquid is made of plastic. The handle and outside of the lid are plastic for the purpose of insulating you from burns. I have on occasion been forced to use a silicone potholder to support the base while pouring, but i wouldn’t remove points for that.
It does not have a temp control…but you can watch it boil and could probably judge from the water’s action and reaction when it’s the temperature for you. Over time, you be a pro and figuring the proper tea temp.
I really do like this pot, and would recommend it for my own grandmother, if she was alive to use it.
The price is good for the product. I’d buy it if i were you. You don’t know when the price will rise.
I have a heat streak. So if something does go wrong with the pot after posting this review, i will be sure to return to post the issues. For now, it’s working great!

Works great! Easy to use!

I bought this for my wife to replace her little sunbeam hot shot hot water dispenser when it died after a decade of daily use. She loves it. It’s super easy to use, and it holds more water than her previous hot water dispenser.

I chose this brand hot water dispenser because i have a coffee cup and coffee cup warmer that i absolutely love by this manufacturer (cosori). My coffee cup warmer is awesome for the price, so i figured that this electric kettle would be too. I was not disappointed.

Not only would i buy this product again, i would always choose any cosori brand product over any other brand product.

Big, but works well

I really like this kettle. It has a blue light that illuminates when the kettle is on. Kettle boils very vigorously before automatically turning off so don’t overfill it. The water gets very hot. I like the fact that only glass touches the water. Only negative for me was it was so big. I only need a kettle for one or two glasses of tea. So, i gave this one away and ordered a smaller electric kettle. I recommend the kettle though. If they made this kettle in a 0.6l version, i would buy one in a heartbeat.

I was due for an upgrade…

I had another brand kettle for years and years. Buttons were falling off, i had to super glue the handle on… I was majorly overdue for an upgrade and i love this one! It’s cute enough not to be an eyesore on my kitchen counter and seems to work faster than my other one ever did – even when it was new! I have several cosori products and i love them all! Great quality at great prices!

Love!

Kind of obsessed with this kettle! The little lever on the bottom (that you press down to heat the water) is very satisfying to use because of the way it clicks lol. I’ve owned a stainless steel kettle before and also a clear one with different temperature settings, and i found that i never once used those settings, so i went with this kettle and love it so much! It’s not super quiet (i’ve never found one that is) but the water heats up fast. The blue light is fun too. I’d definitely buy it again.

Pretty kettle that works well

Despite the kettle not being a ‘precision pour gooseneck’, with a sufficiently steady hand you will have good pour-over coffee results. Or tea. Or whatever it is that you need to boil water for.

It looks visually pleasing, is mechanically sound, and boils water quite fast. I particularly enjoy metal&glass construction after watching a predecessor kettle shed pieces of plastic mesh after several years of use. No such issues with this one.

Awesome!

This is an awesome tea kettle!! It’s not only bigger than the one we previously had but is 1/3 cost of it as well and it puts rings around the old tea kettle. Bc first of all, no plastic inside at all where water is. When you turn it on it lights up its a blue circle inside the pot. Luvly!! It makes our water very hot not like the old one we will now dump in trash after having it couple months! Nice directions comes with it on how to clean it. Will write another review couple months from now. Till then, we will enjoy this beauty of a tea kettle.

Glass spout for the win

We replaced another similar electric kettle purchased on amazon that lasted 7 years. What i like best about this one is the spout from which boiling water exits the kettle is glass. On most other kettles the spout is plastic, metal, or plastic that is painted to look like metal. This unit heats fast, is well balanced, is reasonably sturdy, and the colored light adds a nice touch. I would buy this again. 5 stars.

5Expert Score
Surprisingly fast heating time & easier to clean than any other i’ve tried!

This is absolutely worth the purchase and i can see why it’s a best seller! I normally get mine at tjmaxx or marshalls/homegoods but they haven’t had any non-plastic lately (if any at all). I’m a self-proclaimed tea snob so i am extremely happy with this lol

i don’t like plastic because it leeches and it’s much harder to clean, so i very much like this quality of glass! It’s also very easy to clean with just water and vinegar – even the calcium deposits come off completely!

I recommend using filtered water in this to prevent calcium buildup if it bothers you 🙂 i’ve had mine for a few months now without any issue other than it took me a while to get used to how fast it heats up so sometimes i’d forget to grab it while the water is still post-boiling hot for my black tea !

Replacement works well and reliably

[update: i’ve learned to love it after 6 months of reliable use. We boil water in it 5 or 6 times a day, and still going strong. It does eventually shut off by itself, but only after 5-plus minutes of full boil–an inconvenience if you forget about it, but not dangerous.

The pros well outweigh the negatives, so i’ve upgraded to 4 stars. It’s reliable, nicely designed, boils quickly, glass stays clean. I now recommend it as a buy.]

[update: i sent it back and got another one. This one stays on, but it doesn’t turn off when the water boils–or even 5 minutes after full boiling. It just keeps going and going until you shut off manually.]

a nicely designed kettle that will not stay on. The on/off switch turns off as soon as you turn it on. If you wait and then hold it down for several seconds, it will sometimes stay on for 10 or 20 seconds more, before shutting off again.

I am quite familiar with these kettles with the strix thermostat inside. I have a similar one of a different brand that i repaired myself by sourcing a new thermostat from alibaba in china.

The british-designed strix is the best available thermostat for electric kettles, and usually lasts 8,000-plus uses. I always make sure the kettles i order have these installed. However, they are occasionally out of adjustment. A thermostat is an electrico-mechanical device dependent upon a piece of springy metal, known as a bimetallic strip, that bends with temperature increase, owing to the different coefficients of expansion of the two metals. Any slight maladjustment in the tension on the strip can cause it to shut off too quickly as mine is doing.

The kettle i bought and am now returning is from amazon warehouse and rated as ‘used like new.’ it came in an undamaged box, properly packed and cushioned, and with all the paperwork. Clearly no one took the trouble to fill it with water and test it, or they would have found out it was defective. I fault amazon for simply recycling stuff at a discount without pre-testing, and also the manufacturer for shipping a defective item without a pre-test.

I suppose both businesses know the failure rate of their products, and calculate that the expense they incur on 2-way shipping of the small percentage of defective items is more than made up for by the profit they earn on the good ones plus the bad ones that are not returned. I will thus throw my small monkey wrench into this unscrupulous process by giving them a well-deserved 1-star rating, and hope against hope that it may contribute to their moral/ethical reform.

I still believe, somewhere deep down, that running a superior and above-board business with proper quality control could prove more profitable in the long run then shipping out a known percentage of defective products and having to take the loss on returns. Even as i also recognize in this thought the possibility that i am guided by my own wishful naivété. The almighty forces of the market seem to dictate that the current practice of shipping a certain percentage of junk, is more profitable for both the manufacturer and online retailer.

So shame on you cosori and amazon for your unscrupulous yet highly successful business practices! (and woe to me for attempting to oppose the seemingly omnipotent zeitgeist.)

This was a replacement for the same style we broke and it’s a little different.

We bought the exact same style 3 years ago and we loved it. The crock was nice and heavy with sturdy base. Unfortunately that one went crashing to the ground so we had to replace it with this one. The quality of the product definitely went down. The crock is f nearly as sturdy and when opening the top with the thumb press, it only opens about half way. You have to use your hands to get it open all the way up. The base is the worst part. It’s super flimsy and light made from a lesser quality and weighted plastic. What i ended up doing was using my old base with the new crock and it works much better for me. I do love this design but next time i’ll invest in something a little higher quality.

Looks amazing, heats fast

There is something mesmerizing about seeing the water starting to boil, and the effect is amplified in the dark by the bright blue light. The glass still looks clear after weeks of heavy use and even though hard water stains are quite obvious on the bottom of the kettle now (time to de-scale…) it really looks amazing.

The kettle heats fast. It does get quite hot on the outside, so keep out of reach of small children who may want to touch the pretty bubbles! Another minor design shortcoming (to me) is that, unlike in other models, the straining portion is attached to the lid rather than set inside the spout, and it gets in the way when re-filling the kettle under a tap.

I'm disappointed about this kettle and service of amazon

Update: i finally managed to connect with cosori and after providing videos and photos they sent me new kettle. So i’m updating my review accordingly. Sad that kettle was broken but i’m glad that cosori supported me and resolved my complain. I should say that during time i was waiting for issue resolution i bought kettle in same price but from different brand and it was terrible because of plastic smell. I’m glad i received new cosori kettle because there was no any plastic small in water and design is great.

Kettle is not working after 8 month and there is no way to get response from cosori support and no way to get some help from amazon. It is my first case when kettle broken after less then a year of using.

I tried to find details about warranty on amazon web site and can see nothing. Looks like it was hidden intentionally. Why this kettle has such big rating if actual quality of product is so low???

I’m very disappointed. This experience makes me feel that better to buy products in markets where i can get help from seller if product didn’t have expected quality but not just throw it away because nobody will answer you!

Great kettle but unfortunately the glass spout cracked barely a year after purchasing – updated**

Love this kettle it’s simple and does its job well – boils the water and is presentable on the counter.
I was disappointed to notice today that its glass spout chipped off a piece. Not sure how this could have happened when we pour there is space left above the cup and don’t recall anything bumping into the spout.
After having a look the glass is very thin around this area and could be prone to cracking so could be a design flaw. In any case it’s disappointing that the kettle needs to be replaced just a year later. Yes it’s still functional with the chipped spout but its a sharp hazard so we can’t leave it that way and it can’t be repaired or replaced since its one whole glass component.

**update**
contacted customer service who sent a new kettle – great, thanks!

Gets hot!

I actually love this i’m giving it a four-star because it’s actually pretty huge and when it’s full it’s a little heavy for me to hold. So because of that, i can’t fill it all the way up. I’m afraid i will bump it into something and break. The other reason i’m giving it a four-star is it’s pretty loud my friend has one and you don’t even hear hers the first time i used it i thought it sound like a jet plane taking off. I wasn’t originally going to return it however, it did its job and i got used to it and i love the blue light.

Fast and easy to use water kettle

I bought this for safety of preventing burning the pot and it works well, plus it has a very visible led ring light that tells you when element is on and goes off when finished. Wide mouth and clear glass add to appeal. Only reason i did not give it a 5 is the lid prevents holding carafe under fridge filtered water dispenser, so i have to fill another vessel and transfer the filtered water.

Efficient

I really like this kettle. It’s larger than my previous one so i probably could have gone a little smaller, but it heats quickly and safely. I especially like the blue led light that lets you know it’s on. I also really like the clear glass. I can see what’s happening in case i don’t want the water as hot.

Quickly boil but does not keep warm

If you want hot water quickly, this may be for you but it does not keep the water warm. I used to have a pot that will keep water warm, but broke, and get this one.

The good thing about this one is glass, so you will see if there are stains inside. I used to have one that is stainless steal, that one after a while, i saw some rust inside. For this one, so far i don’t see anything yet.

Works well

Works as a great kettle. Love the stainless steel bits. The only issue is that once it’s done and empty it makes some unsettling clicking sounds. Even though it is sitting beside the base, not on it.
