This is a review of the cowsar countertop nugget ice maker . The title above is a quote from my wife. And i have to say that though i’m not the big ice fan that my wife is, it is very nice ice.

As i looked through the various nugget ice makers i had to select one that was not too tall so i could fit it on my countertop under my upper cabinets, that eliminated a few of the available options. This one does fit and the measurements in the listing are accurate. The color was right for our kitchen and it looks nice on the countertop.
Even though it looked very clean as it came out of the box i did go through all the cleaning process recommended in the instruction manual to be safe. It was not difficult. The manual says that the top is removable. It probably just pops off with some pressure, but i have been a little nervous about putting too much pressure on it for fear of breaking something and for now i don’t have a real reason to remove the top, but at some point i will probably want to so that i can make sure it is clean in those parts i can’t currently access.

Now to the important part. It works, and it makes ‘heavenly’ ice. It started producing ice fairly quickly after cleaning and turning it on the first time. I probably should have timed it, but i would guestemate some ice within 15 minutes and a pretty full basket within 60 to 90 minutes. Since there are only the two of us with the occasional visitor or family get together, i don’t expect it to have much trouble keeping up with our needs.

If you are very sensitive to noise, you may not like this machine. When it is making ice, there is definitely a very noticeable hum (hopefully you’ll be able to get a feel for it if you watch the attached video. Louder than any other appliance in the kitchen, except the garbage disposal ;-). I know some dishwashers are loud and this may be about the same as that. Our dishwasher is very quiet so this is louder than ours. When we’re in the kitchen we’re working on preparing meals etc. And we’ve had those bullet style ice makers (the ones that make the round tipped ice that looks like a bullet) in the past, so the noise does not bother us, but it is clearly there when in operation.

Like our previous bullet ice makers you have to add water by removing the basket of ice and filling the reservoir below it. When the basket is totally full the ice builds up clear to the spout where it comes out to fill the basket so you have to scoop the ice down into the basket to take it out to fill the reservoir. At one point the machine was running but i was not seeing any ice come out of the spout and the ice was not stacked up to the spout, but it did not show the low water icon, but i checked and there was very little water in the reservoir. I went ahead and filled it of course, and while i was filling it another couple of nuggets did come out of the spout. So far i’ve never seen the low water icon, but i’m going to force myself to leave it until i do see it and see what happens.

It appears to me that this exact machine is sold under several different brand names. On the back the label says free village and then also gives the name of the chinese company ningbo hicon international. Some of the companies selling this on amazon require a shipping fee, even for prime members and others have coupons available so it is important you figure out your net cost as you compare them.

We have had several of the ‘bullet’ ice makers in the past and they typically last around a year. The last one broke records and lasted about 15 months. We decided to add the 5 year extended warranty on this one, as it was a very reasonable price. I’ll be so happy if we never have to use that extended warranty.

The bottom line: we are very happy with it in our first few days and hope to be very happy with it for a long time. I would definitely recommend it to those looking for a countertop/portable nugget ice maker. If anything changes in the next year or two i’ll be updating this review almost immediately.

Super easy operation…works great! Makes ice just like sonic & really doesn’t take long at all. I set the timer for 3 hours and went back to check on the progress within 45 minutes, the basket was just about full…love this ice maker!! It is much much better than the ice makers that makes bullet ice. (i had one and it took all day to collect a decent amount of ice)

My grandma loves it. I got this from my grandma because she lives in a tiny home. And she gave us her huge freezer for my breastmilk. But because we have her freezer she needed something that she can make ice with. I got her this and it worked very quickly. I’d say ice cubes were popping out within 20 minutes. It has a sensor inside that sensors when the trays. Making ice cubes. Which is super handy and helpful.

This is exactly what you’re supposed to do it makes ice and i use it every day at least twice a day and click my eyes so i have it when i needed love this product

I have had several portable bullet type ice makers in the past. This one is preferred by all because of its crushed type ice. It has a good size basket for its size. I turn mine off at night and in the morning it still has ice in the basket. So far i am happy with the purchase and just hope it lasts longer than the bullet type ice makers i have had in the past.

First i was amazed it arrived so quickly. Es supposed to be delivered in 7 days, arrived the next day. Works great so far. Spend too much money trying to get my ice cube maker in side by dude refrigerator fixed. Also purchased 5 year warranty which i didn’t see offer with other ice makers. So far so good, pleased with purchase

This product is amazing ! I no longer have to spend so much money on bags of ice! It makes chewy, crunchy, sonic ice.

I was half expecting the ice to be more on the harder side, but nope. This thing blew me away. The best thing i’ve bought in a long time, 100% recommend.

Needed an ice maker while living in a rental for a month, definitely worth the price!

It’s fun and easy to clean. Does what it’s intended to do. We are enjoying it immensely. As far as long term use that remains to be seen.

Ice is made rather quickly, great. Much better than going to the store and buying ice bags, saves money in the long run! Alright, but it’s not portable whatsoever. I wouldn’t say that it’s incredibly heavy either, it’s just not portable in the sense that we may think of our phone as portable. It’s heavy, but it works well. So for that i give this ice maker 4 stars.

If you need a smaller machine to keep away clutter on your countertop, then the cowsar ice maker will work for you. It’s slim, short design is perfect for countertops with less space.

I’d have to rate the noise level as intermediate. It wasn’t too loud but it definitely isn’t quite. When the ice hits the pan – you hear it!

Be sure to set aside ample time for your tray to fill up. If you watch the video i provided, it takes about 10 minutes per 8 ice cubes. That amounts to approximately 48 ice cubes per hour. But keep in mind they aren’t large cubes (more like small bullets) so you may need more to fill a glass.

The ice isn’t hospital like ice either. Hospital ice is almost the same as shaved ice pellets. But the cowsar ice machine isn’t putting out freezer tray ice cubes either. The cubes are much lighter and less dense than freezer ice.

The instructions are easy to understand. They do state you should not use tap water in the machine.

For the price, i would say this is a decent purchase. I don’t know if i’m just cheap but i gave four stars because i do believe the price point could drop maybe 10 percent for 48 small ice cubes per hour. But it’s surely a great addition to free up space in your freezer for more food storage.

Really easy to set up and use. Just pour water in and turn on. It cycles every 8 minutes. Which would be enough for one glass. It’s fun to watch. Just think i’d buy a bag of ice if i needed a lot of ice… This would take a long time.

Good countertop ice maker but definitely not portable. It’s a little heavy to carry or bring to and from one place to another. I love chewing on ice and it makes perfect size ice. Overall , it’s a good ice maker.

It is very heavy and the cleaning release valve is on the underside of the machine so in order to cycle it and clean the lines you have to awkwardly lift it. The ice that it makes to me isn’t quite true nugget. It seems a little bit harder than true nugget ice that i’ve had in restaurants, but it is still pretty good. It starts making ice super fast like within 5 minutes of me turning it on.

This ice maker makes great nugget ice. Unpack out of the box, plug in and fill with water. Once you run through the initial cleaning cycle you drain the water out using the built in drain plug at the bottom of the container and you are making ice! It will produce lots of ice in a short time. One thing i noticed is a slight water drip from underneath the unit. I’m not sure if there is a leak or it is condensate from the room air.

This ice maker works as advertised. Functions good and no issues so far. The only thing i dont like is that the nuggets were smaller than the ice maker that i used to have and they melt fast. The good thing is when water is melted, it goes back to the water reservoir that makes it to ice again.

I’m surprised that this machine works so well. The ice is lighter and more airy. If you’re a frequent ice chewer this is a fantastic option. Chewing on ice is really not good for your teeth, but this ice is so much easier on them!

I do feel that this machine isn’t worth almost $400, but i also know that’s what they’re all going for right now. If you’re in the market for a nugget ice maker, this is a great option.

Easy as 1-2-3! Overall great value for an under $100 countertop ice maker! Please note: this version does not make “nugget” ice. This version makes hollow bullet shaped ice. See pictures.

No assembly required. In less than 10 minutes, your first set of ice is on its way to the basket! Just fill to the max line with water and press the button. It’s that simple. We had the second batch of ice in 8 minutes. After that, it was consistently 8 minutes.

It is heavier than i expected and feels sturdy. So far the only thing i am notifying is that the ice is somewhat wet after it gets to the basket. You need to transfer it out of the basket when the basket fills.
