Is filtrete allergic to using the better known merv rating system?

I am not sure i fully understand your question. When it comes to merv rating you need to balance your filter needs/wants vs efficiency. The higher the merv the smaller the particles filtered, but the higher your power use as your air handler has to work harder to pull through the finer filter. According to the usgbc leed standards, a minimum of merv 13 must be used for all recirculated air.merv 6 = 300 mprmerv 8 = 600 mprmerv 11 = 1000-1200 mpr (this filter)merv 13 = 1500-1900 mpr.i chose this filter because it seemed like a reasonable compromise of filtration, efficiency and cost.i hope this helps. 🙂

How small a micron will it filter

I can’t see a micron size for the filter pores on the package for this. However, in looking at the information on the back the size is not sufficient to filter out bacteria/viruses. For that you need the packaging ‘healthy living’. Just because the package says viruses, though does not mean that it would ‘work’ for the covid-19

Discribtion says $4.00 a pack which leads you believe there are serveral filters included. I only received 2 filters so that makes them over $10.00?

2 filters are what i expected and what i got.

At walmart i get the orange 800s but don’t see them listed alongside here. Is this a different filtrete series?

I don’t really know. There are several levels of filtrete filters – the more ‘allergen’ filtration, the more the cost. But i am not familiar with the 800 series. I have been told by a heating and air conditioning serviceman that the cheap blue filters do just as much to trap dust and allergens as the more expensive filtrete ones, but i prefer to use filtrete. Any of their products are good. On amazon, you can buy them in 3-6 packs rather than paying the higher cost per filter you would pay if you buy them singularly. Sorry i can’t help you any more than this.

I thought i bought the 1550

Yeah, i bought the wrong ones because i’ve got bad mold sensitivities. However, i was just a little lazy about changing filters and my motor burned out. I’m one of those that take a good 20×20 lasko fan and put one of these behind it. I filled the corners to make it a ducted fan and the sound level drops way down. But having the 1000 merv 11, i’ve got loads of airflow, just crazy amounts. The fan itself wasn’t made to be ducted so the reduction in fine filtration made the airflow difference and will actually prevent this burnout from happening again, though i’ve only had it once. I think that was one of the water resistant motors which are closed. The open case motor is much cooler since air flows around the rotor and now it’s getting more air in general. So i’m not getting as good filtration, in mold and tiny stuff, but since these fans aren’t really made for pulling hard, even with my difficult to make duct, the 1000 is probably better in the long run. It blows really well on 1, so i will save some electricity and make my fans last a lot longer. These good lasko fans aren’t cheap. I had one last 25 years but it didn’t have a filter behind it. I used it for a couple years with a filter and it seized an old dried up bearing. So i should have known that pulling air through filters with these heats things up and that will shorten the life, but it all connected when i got out my new filters and ‘hey, it’s sure blowing like crazy. No wonder. I got the 1000s.’ now i remember making this decision on purpose for these very reasons, but before the motor burned out. So if there are others like me out there, i’d recommend the merv 11, or 1000 because our fans will last longer. Maybe i just waited too long to change it. Well, that’s possible. Maybe if you’re better at changing filters, there’s no problem with the 1550, but another plus with the 1000s is that they’re cooler in the summer, blowing clean air at you from across the isle and on #1 setting. #2 is great and if i were to put the new motor into the ducted frame, the sound would pipe down. I guess it’s like everything. How much time and how good is your back to make or reuse a ducted fan? I’ll say this, if you want to make a ducted fan, get the pink or blue foam boards at home depot. I found a purple piece of packaging foam and that cuts like butter. It’s great to work with and sound absorbing. Don’t use styrene foam, (brittle, crusty stuff). It’s hard to deal with in every way. I wish there’s someplace to buy these online. That makes it so much easier that it’s not such a dreaded task at all. Anyway, merv 11 will allow better air flow and that might help make up somewhat for the difference in filtration but i know the 1000s are not going to ruin a lasko in 7 years. They’ll last forever (essentially) on these merv 11s. In this hot weather, i’m enjoying that better airflow. I also recommend the lasko fan combo. Esp on these 1000s. They really keep the air in the house clean. I had my carpets cleaned and he said, ‘you’re gonna have a lot of dust here on the ac inlet louvres. Well? (he tries again.) huh. These are completely clean. Not a speck.’ he walks off mumbling ‘i don’t know why it’s so clean…’. It’s the lasko/3m combination. It cleans so much air. I can go 2 years on a house filter and even then i don’t see dust, i just assume it’s there. It has to be. My inlet grates are spotless. Anyway, it really works and for so little money. I don’t even bother to tape it up. The vacuum of the fan pulls it into the fan. That’s the first thing i noticed. It barely pulled. That’s the difference between the merv 13 and merv 11. It is a matter of preference ultimately, so try one of each. Keep the one you don’t like because it’s a lot better than nothing. (unless you’ve got loads of money, i guess. I’m more of a waste not want not. It’s not exactly true, but the saying has a point.) anyway, i almost forgot. I prefer these filtretes over filterbuy and others. They’re sturdier and i believe they filter better, the merv ratings being equal, the 3m is better made and it filters better, though i’ll use a filterbuy on the house system, for some reason. There’s a frame around the house filter. So sturdiness isn’t as important. These 20x20s for the lasko fan are moved around, bumped into. They take the punishment and never get damaged. 3m really knows how to box these up, by the way. They’re glued everywhere and it’s very hard to open. Be careful.

My go-to filters (and on my subscribe and save)

I have been using these air filters since getting a brand-new ac unit installed and having them
recommended by my ac guy. He said… ‘you just spent 20,000 dollars on a new unit so please stop using generic air filters that entirely defeat the purpose of why you just changed out your entire system.’

he wasn’t wrong. I have noticed a massive difference since switching from a generic to 3m filtrete. I change them a bit more often because i suffer from bronchiectasis and perpetual sinus issues all year long, living in arizona. Plus, i have an over-the-top fuzzy dog that sheds like a christmas tree in july. All year long.

I absolutely recommend these air filters as your go-to. Just throw them on your subscribe and save and enjoy the benefits of a trusted brand that won’t wreck your ac and heating system. I mean these are your lungs we are talking about. You’re going to notice a difference. Our entire house has less allergies whenever we pop a new filter in.

They recommend every 60 days (2 months), but i change it monthly in the summer (arizona is brutal for spores and dust storms) and every 2 months in the winter because we don’t really use the heater unless it goes below 40 at night.

Awesome product. I’m pretty much a customer for life. Sneezing, wheezing and being itchy all the time is a drag. Life’s too short for that. Be itchy free!

Extremely reliable

I actually use these filters with my window fan. With the cooler weather rolling in it’s nice to have fresh air at night but what blows in causes bronchial issues. Last year when i replaced the filters i was amazed at the black circle that was caused by all that i didn’t breath in!

These filters fit tighter and better than cheaper filters on the internet

Filters have become very expensive but i have severe allergy issues with dust and pollen and these filters are the most effective in helping to keep the air in my home cleaner. Plus, they fit the filter openings in my house better than the cheaper filters you find on the internet. They way the other guys make their filters cheaper is by cutting corners on materials and making them just slightly smaller than the correct fit size.

Just a tad too big!

The outer dimension of filter opening is 24′ x 24′ and the actual filter size (which we measured) is true to size. But with the nuts that the idiots used to install the filter frame, the filter is literally just about 1/4′ too big. I would love to use these filters, they’re well-made and get good reviews.
I tried to order a 23.5′ x 23.5′ filtrete filter and found a size that would probably fit, but it only comes in 6-pack, which is a lot more money than i can to commit for a ‘buy it and try it’ given the money i just pissed away so i have to order another brand that’s not as good. Too bad.

Useful and effective filter

Been using these filters this years because they are effective. I changed it every two to four months, depending on the pollen season.

Minus one star for packaging. Seller put two strips of thin fiberglass tape on each end, each strip only a few inches long. One side was completely open. Thank you to the delivery service for not losing the contents.

Coming up a little short

These advertise for roughly three months, but they seem to wear out between 2 to 2.5 months. It’s a little frustrating, but when they’re new and installed, they work extremely well. I suspect that is why they wear out quickly. A victim of their own success.

Nearly as good as merv 12, a bit pricy

This review is for the six pack of merv 11 filters.

After switching from a reusable filter several years ago, i have been using the 3m filtrete brand filters for a while now. I have previously been using the 3m filtrete merv 12 filters (mpr 1500), but they have gone way up in price over the past year or so, nearly doubling in price, as i paid 60 for a six pack when i purchased them a couple years ago and they are now around 100. These merv 11 (mpr 1000) are cheaper at around 66 bucks and only slightly less effective, according to the ratings of what the filter catches. I still think these are a bit pricy per filter. The six pack is a bit better priced but still expensive. These filters are made well and filter the air very well, although not quite as well as the merv 12 versions, which is to be expected. However, the difference is only slight between the two.

The biggest thing i noticed between the two types of filters is there more slats in the merv 12 version than this filter and the merv 12 has additional metal lining on it. I have attached photos to show the differences between the two, with a new merv 12 on top of the merv 11 on the bottom. The difference in filtering is only slightly less though, and i personally don’t feel that paying an addition 40 bucks that the other filters are selling is worth the slightly more effective filtering. The filters fit in the hvac slot like they are supposed to do with no issues, as the filters are supposed to fit without forcing them in. Pay close attention to the arrow pointing to the direction of the airflow as the filter needs to be installed the right direction to do its job properly.

One thing that i will note to watch out for. I ordered these and initially received by mistake, the filtrete basic filters (mpr 300), that were mismarked as the merv 11 (mpr 1000), a big difference in both price and overall filtering ability. I noticed that the box had already written on it that someone returned for the same problem. So, make sure that you check the description on the box (which should be a 3m labeled box), as well as on the filter package inside to make sure it matches the description of what you ordered. The first box that i received and filters inside said basic air filters, when they should have said micro-allergen defense.

Overall, good quality filters, but pricey. Since these boxes look similar and mistakes can happen, make sure the product matches the description of what you ordered.

Good hvac filters

I’ve been using these filters for years now so needless to say i am pretty happy with them. They fit easily and never get caught when you remove them when dirty. The only issue i have is that they only last about two months not three as indicated on the packaging but all filters exaggerate the amount of time they are good for. By two months they are as dirty as i am willing to allow them to get because i don’t want the added strain on my hvac system. That said, i recommend these to friends and family for their homes and amazon offers a great price on these. You won’t be disappointed going with these fillers.
