Ge water filter ‘rpwf’…
No doubt the filter’s life depends on your water supply and ge likes getting $50 for a $15 filter.
I change mine when i notice an ‘off’ taste in the ice and ignore the light.

Will this fit my french door ge?
My ge refrigerator is gfe28hghww. It was installed by the local dealer with rpwfe water filter. The quick use & care manual shows how to install it, but gives no information about the filter model and when to change it. What i have deduced is that at initial turn-on a 6-month clock is started, but not visible. At 6-months the display shows a message to change the filter. If you do not do that, the display will start to count up days overdue. It does this for 99 days and then stops counting, although water is still available ok via the over-used filter. The new filter must be rpwfe because it has a rfid electronic chip taped to its back side. The chip is about 1/4′ diameter and it talks to the refrigerator electronics, resets the display and starts a new 6-month clock. The display cannot be reset manually. The new filter must be installed with the front side facing outwards, so that the chip on the backside interfaces properly with the electronics. A rpwf filter (without the e) looks exactly the same, installs exactly the same, but does not work – the water feed system shuts down. The answer to your question is if your refrigerator came with a rpwfe filter, then its replacement must also be rpwfe. You should check what is installed now by opening the filter door and looking at the filter label. Replace it with exactly the same filter.

Does this filter have rfid chip on it?
Yes.
I would not use an after-market filter. But if you don’t want to use this filter, you can buy a bypass plug from ge for $7.30 (wr17x22064).

Is rpwfe water filter same as rpwf . If not, what is the difference between them
February 21, 2021 – i bought ge rpwfe at lowes and replaced my old rpwf water filter (waterdrop knockoff) in my 2015 ge cafe refrigerator. Yes these look different but are compatible. This also fixed my ‘leak’ sensor issue.
Does this filter work with fisher & paykel fridge? To sub their filter number 847200
Honestly, i’m not sure. My wife and i have used this filter only because it’s the same style filter as the one that came with our fridge when we bought it. My recommendation would be is go to the place you bought your filter (lowes, home depot) and ask what kind of filter would go with it. I wish i was able to answer you with a solid yes or no.

How long can this product be used?
Hey there, and thanks for reaching out with this great question! We recommend replacing the filter cartridge every six months, or earlier if the flow of water to the dispenser/icemaker decreases or if 170 gallons of water have been dispensed. We hope this information helps, and are glad to assist if you have any other concerns or questions. Wishing you all the best! -sarah@gea
Is this model for 300 gallons?
This filter will last 6 months or until it tells you to change it. The three hundred gallons depends on how much water you us, you can measure the water usage and estimate the ice maker water usage to calculate the appropriate gallons of water that passes through the filter.
Does this work for a gfd28gynfs??
Hi – the genuine ge rpwfe is the correct replacement filter for this model refrigerator. We’re glad you checked with us. Vikki@gea
Does anyone know if this filter removes psaf?
My state, michigan, is one of the worst pfas areas, and our federal representative has written some of the legislation regarding clean up. Following is an excerpt from an article from michigan state university that may be helpful when trying to buy a filter to remove pfas from water.
Although there is some legislation now in place (as of 2020) to discontinue use of pfas foams on military bases, there still is not enough effective legislation regarding funding or requiring clean-up of pfas sites – even military sites. People may want to contact their federal representatives and senators to ask for more resources to be directed to clean-up. This is a nationwide problem, although states with military bases may be most affected.
‘f you know or suspect pfas to be in your drinking water, the state of michigan recommends using nsf international certified filters to reduce pfoa and pfos in drinking water. Nsf is an independent, accredited organization that tests and certifies products and systems to protect and improve human health.
To know if a filter is nsf certified for the removal of pfoa and pfos look for nsf p473 or nsf certified to standard p473 on the product, packaging, or specifications. Two types of filters recommended are granular activated carbon (gac) and reverse osmosis (ro) filters. Advantages and disadvantages of each type, as well as general information on pfoa and pfos in drinking water are summarized in the michigan department of environmental quality’s factsheet on pfas filters. Whole house filtration systems are not currently certified.’

Rpwf and rpwfe comptible
The rpwfe has a rfid tag built into it to determine the “time to change and overdue days”. The rpwf does not. This makes them incompatible.
Replaced my filter and now water has white trash in it. Anyone else have this experience?
No white stuff in mine. Is the white stuff hard, soft, float? But you should have a touch of grey looking water for a short time. That grey is some of the charcoal powder clearing out from the filter. It wont hurt if you drink it. But if you run about a gallon or two thru the new filter it clears it out. Whits stuff could be a filter poblem, id call or return the filter.

Pfos and pfas the same as pfas?
Hi – thank you for reaching out to us. The rpwfe filter is certified to reduce 99% of perfluorooctanoic acid (pfoa) and perfluorooctaine sulfonate (pfos). For additional information on these chemicals, please visit the epa.gov website. Kind regards – vikki@gea
What’s the deal with the 6-month interval? Shouldn’t it be a factor of water volume it filters, not time?
Yes it should. Mine expired almost exactly at 6 months. Got new ones but will not install them for another few months. It’s the razors and razor blades trick at $100 a pop.
Why do you do your customers like this? Make it $25 and i’ll gladly buy your brand name. Otherwise, i’m getting the 4 for $38 brand!
I use the brand because i don’t want to take any chances and mess my refrigerator
Is this made in the usa
In its position in the refrigerator i can only read the words ‘sourced globally’ which leads me to believe it could be assembled in usa with components from other countries.
