Where is this made?
Of course it matters where it’s made. Mine is set to arrive friday. Fully expecting to see made in china somewhere on this thing. We should be making more of what we use in the us……
What is the length of the entire thermometer when folded?
The length of one of those eyeglasses cases that zip up, which is what i keep it in fits perfectly.
Will this measure temp of salmon patties?
Sure, you can measure the temperature of any type of solid or liquid that is within the measuring range of the temperature probe.
Doesn’t power on. No instructions. Do i need to do something?
Hi it auto powers on when you open it it auto powers off when it is closed. Very easy to use.
Is this item waterproof?
I have washed mine and it is fine
How to calibrate? I followed each step of the instructions, but it doesn’t seem to reach the value it specifies
Don’t use ice and water this is not accurate. Use a styrofoam cup and place some ice cubes into it, no water at all. Then let the ice melt and calibrate it to the temperature in the water. This has 0°c pretty much exactly. Close to the ice but without touching the ice. Try several points in the cup, cold water is at the bottom. Water boils at 101.4kpa or 1014mbar which is sea level air pressure at pretty much exact 100°c. Use a pot with boiling water, doesn’t matter how much heat you give it, ho or low, you can’t heat water above 100°c at atmospheric pressure.

What size battery does it use?
It uses a button cell battery.
What do you mean, “keep away from microwave oven”? Cannot use when cooking on stove with microwave above it? Or just not put inside one?
Don’t put in the microwave!
Photo 3 says that this thermometer comes ‘pre-calibrated’. Is it?
It was pretty close to exact temps right out of the box but it does give you directions to calibrate using ice water.
What is the ‘abs’ coating described in description? Is it something the probe is coated with?
The unit itself is plastic, probably abs. The probe is just metal.
Having trouble calibrating following the directions. The screen will flash ‘call’ 4x and then display ‘err’. Sound like a bad unit?
If you followed the instructions and touched a cube of ice in a glass of ice water and receive an error message i would think it is defective. The company seems to be very responsive.
Nsf certified?
I looked on the box and in the instructions/information. I saw nothing that came close to even mentioning ‘nsf’ certified?
Does this thermometer need to be washed by hand?
I usually just hand clean the sensor tip only.
Does this have a protective plastic on the display? When you first receive it?
Yes, there’s a protective clear plastic adhesive and i still have it on.
How do you put in the battery? I tried to open the cover on the back but it didn’t seem to be opening.
Easy just slip a flat blade screw driver or butter knife into the slot on the back cover and turn counter clock wise to open.
It states ‘2 lithium metal batteries required’. What size of batteries are these? Am i going to have to order replacements from overseas??
The one sent to me had a battery in it and a spare. I don’t recall what size it was.
Looking at the pictures of the thermometer in use, who cooks steaks to 301 f and chicken to 362 f? Asking for a concerned friend.
My concern is for the person that cooks steaks to 301 f and chicken to 362 f. ?
The thermometer works very well and is quick and precise.
The thermometer works very well and is quick and precise.
Can you use this for food other than meat?
It works fine for any food item.
What kind of battery does it use?
Its a 3v lithium battery, cr2032h
What does llll on the screen mean?
Llll means the thermometer is perceiving temperatures lower than its bottom range of *negative* 50 deg centigrade or above its upper range of *positive* 300 deg c. If that is not the temperature that the thermometer should read, the thermometer is broken. For some this starts right out of the box. Took mine about a couple years for this.
When i check the ‘max’ and ‘min’ temp mine reads -50c for *both* instead of +300c for the max. No apparent way to fix this. If this is less than 30 days for you, try to get a refund!
Other answer to this question is unhelpful and obnoxious. And *this* is the place where the manufacturer is supposed to answer our questions!
