How is the app?
Those saying this is a great app just haven’t used other apps yet. This app does not even have a way to download or create a video from the sd card within the app. You have to manually get the sd card out of the device (that means getting a ladder for the outdoor cams) and put it into your computer and making the video from there. This app seems somewhat disjointed as it has ‘view activity’ in one place and it’s another place if you click thru the notification. Some companies have good apps but poor camera and some have a poor app but great cameras. If only we could find that one company that has a great app and a great camera. This one doesn’t seem to be it either. You have to decide what is more important to you – great app (needed features and more control) with ok cameras (like 1080p) or great cameras (2k+) with ok app (less features, less control) for our needs – this is a great camera but just an ok app. We’d like to find one that is great camera, great app – this is camera #4 and we have yet to find that magic combo.

Can i get motion detection alerts on cell without cloud or sd storage?
Technically yes – as long as the camera is connected to a wifi network, with internet connectivity, and associated with a kasa account, with notifications enabled in the kasa app, you should still receive detection alerts when detection occurs. Please note that no recording will take place if you do not have a microsd card inserted, or a kasa care cloud storage plan.

The new version uses sd cards. Instructions up to 128gb, here says 64gb. Has anyone tried a 256gb card? Most ‘limits’ r incorrect & can do more gbs…
The 1080 camera only takes 128 and will not even work with a larger card. I had a 400gb card i was not using and figured to use it and it would be cut down to 128, but no, it will not even work with the card at all. Says not supported. So don’t buy one much larger than it says as it will probably not work.

Yes, on the base of the unit. You can also find it in the kasa app once the camera is set up.
I have 5 kasa plugs on my kasa app in my home. I’d like to add a camera in my vacation home which will use a different wifi – can this be done?
Yes, when setting it up, just program the camera to the wifi you intend to utilize! Set up is easy and you can always update it, should you relocate the camera! Thanks, brian

No, the kasa smart 2k camera supports local recording via micro sd card (not included) and cloud storage (via kasa care paid subscription).
Does this camera support being used with blue iris or only the kasa app?
Until i know, i use it with kasa app, i never try ‘blue iris app’.

My husband took care of the set up and i believe all info was in the app once you download it! It is a good product and we can check in on our dogs 180 degree views

Hi! As long as your smartphone is on the same wi-fi lan as the camera (and not connected to a vpn while on the lan), there should not be a stream timeout message. However, if you are connected to a vpn or away from your home’s wi-fi network (accessing the camera remotely), the message will appear.

Yes, it offers digital zoom, which you can use via the kasa app by using ‘pinch-to-zoom’ gestures.
When i try to connect to the camera’s wifi name to add camera, it says cannot and has warning sign, then it fails to connect camera. Already reset x2?
Please ensure the camera is within your router’s 2.4ghz wi-fi network range, and that your smartphone does not have a vpn enabled during setup, as this will directly interfere with the setup process.

I get this problem as well. On an iphone running ios 15.6. Kasa app 2.38.1 build 1040. Time zone is set to same as iphone. When i click “notifications” in device settings, it keeps saying “operational failed. Please try again later.”
Is it possible to view the playback on my phone (app kasa) from the memory card sitting inside the camera device?
Yes you can view playback thru the kasa app for the length/limit of your memory card. The app will also present thumbnails of motion & person detected to help you identify the times of activity.
How is this integrated with alexa. Can i press the alexa button on my fire tv remote and tell her to display it? Does it do pip? My blink does.
Yes – you can ask alexa to view the live stream on your fire tv once you have integrated alexa and kasa.

They will always come on if night vision is set to automatic (default setting), or on.
