Why is the 2 pack more than 2 times the price of the single detector?

Be aware that the sensor has a 7 year life. At least that is the information i got from kidde. I am replacing my 2 units purchased in 2011…. Otherwise they appear to be good. I am not sure if other brands have a similar lifespan.

How far apart are the mounting holes?

I just installed three of the kidde co alarm model kn-cob-lp2. The holes are exactly 3.00 inches (7.62 mm) apart. I recommend sliding off the back plate and using it as a template, though. Install one screw, or in dry wall using the provided plastic anchors, drill one 3/16′ (4.75 mm) hole and install the screw. Then hang the back plate off the single screw and level it and use a pencil to mark the exact center of the second hole. Install the second screw. Check with back plate to see if they align sufficiently (my first one was off a little because i did not follow the procedure above, but it was still ok, just not perfect).

Your cob b lcm coc allarm is 15$ 6 is 99$ . Why does quantity coct more

This seems to happen a lot on amazon. The answer for the consumer is just order multiples of the cheaper priced one. So say buy six of the 15’s for 90 instead of paying an extra 9 to bundle. Perhaps there is a legit answer sometimes such as bundled shipping goes up for the seller if it’s sent from them and not amazons warehouse. Anyway most often when i see this i just chuckle and of course the advantage is in my court as long as the stock is available to order any number if say i only need 3 or 5 i can skip the multiple bundles for more money and just select the quantity of the single one i’m ordering. Also works if it’s say two is cheaper than 4 etc. Do the math and you can chuckle at the silly world we live in these days. Chill out and stay safe it’s better for your heart everyone.

Would this device work in a 6′ x 6′ hunting blind with a mr. Heater heating unit?

I believe this would not be a good fit for the kidde. The conflict comes with a mr. Heater unit.

If i purchase this now, the shipped product would have 10-year life?

Not sure, i just replaced my old one and it lasted 7 years

What is its sensitivity? Level of co detected after number of minutes.

This kidde carbon monoxide alarm meets response time requirements as follows. 70ppm, unit must alarm within 60-240 min. At 150ppm, unit must alarm within 10-50 min. At 400ppm, unit must alarm within 4-15 min.

Will this item work in a motor home

Ya i would think so! I don’t see why not!! It just runs on batteries that are included! Very good idea to put one in a motor home with all the gas appliances in them!

Does your green light indicating the monitoring work for you. I bought 2 and they seem ok but no green light on either????

From the manufacturer:
green led – flashes every 60 seconds to indicate the unit is operating properly. The green led will also flash before a co reading is taken and when any button is pressed.
Event memory – if the unit has detected co concentrations of 100ppm or greater, the green led will flash every ten seconds.

Does the manual or box state how long this unit will last on a set of batteries?

If you read the fine print on the back of the unit, if you replace the batteries and it still chirps. The actual unit has reached the end of its life and you need a new unit. Battery changing won’t help.

What are dimmensions of this unit? The ‘details’ say ’11 inches’… But highly doubt the unit is almost a foot wide.

Nice catch! Actually that amazon description is out of date. The new model only requires two (2) batteries, not 3.
The actual dimensions are 4.5 x 3 x 1.5 inches.

How does one attach these to the wall?

The mount on the back of the unit slides down and has screw holes to mount to the wall. Or, the unit can be put on a shelf or table top.

How does the warranty work? I bought two first alert units with 10 year warranty in 2018 from home depot. Both units malfunction right now.

This was in my house when i bought it three years ago. It went off and i replaced the batteries and it keeps going off even outside in fresh air?

What kind of an answer is the unit doesn’t like the batteries if it chirps every 60 seconds? Every unit i have the 2011 models that i bought in 2015 in my buildings just under 3 years and they chirp with new alkaline batteries. They are not cheap batteries where does it say you need special batteries

How large of a space does this cover?

As long as the air that might be carrying co reaches the sensor this will cover an arbitrarily large area. The unit itself covers a small spot on the wall. Width = 4.5 in height = 3 in depth = 1.5 in

Is this good for an apartment?

I tested mine with my gas stove. The alarm didn’t sound. Is this correct?

No, they detect carbon monoxide particles per million over a period of time.

How to open safely to change batteries?

The back plate will slide downward and reveal the batteries in the back of the unit.

Is this okay for travel?

Hi, according to the manufacturer is for home use . But when i travel take it with me , even in a brand new car, safe lives ! Good luck !

I know it says alkaline batteries, but i only have lithium batteries at home. Will lithium batteries work?

It is not recommended

Hi. How can you tell when the unit needs to be replaced or if the unit detects carbon monoxide?

When i went to replace the c02 detector with new batteries, the beeping still persisted. That’s how i came to the conclusion my c02 detector was dead. Installed batteries in new c02 detector and no beeping. For what it’s worth, my old c02 detector was 6 years old (plus however time old the detector was when i purchased it at home depot). As for the detection of c02, i’m not sure so i can not answer that.

It saved me and my dogs life

I don’t write too many reviews but, i felt guilty not giving one for this product because it saved my life last february. I am a full time van lifer and last winter i used a mr. Heater buddy propane heater to keep us warm.

One night after hanging out with some friends at their place, my dog and i left to go to the woods to find a quiet spot to sleep for the night. I usually turn the heater on to warm up the van and then turn it off before bed time but this time i decided to not turn it off and just sleep with it on. I swear i remember cracking the max air fan vent because this heater only needs 9 square inches of fresh air to work at. Apparently i didn’t do that and was awoken around 3 am by a disorienting loud beeping, i quickly got up open the door and turned the heater off. At that point i had no idea if this thing worked but it saved our lives and i am thankful.

I have since switch to a safer diesel heater which exhausts outside the van and also am buying a back up co detector, just in case. I have since learn to test them by lighting some incense, blowing out the flame and putting the detector in a pot with a lid and with the incense. This thing is still working great. Don’t hold it in front of your car exhaust to test it, it damages them.

Easy to set up and install. Loud enough to easily hear. The green light to indicate it’s operating is helpful. Pleased with my purchase

So far, so good.

It satisfies the inspection requirements, which is all that really mattered in this case. I did not test it so have no idea if it works. Having survived my 85 years to far never having had a need for one of these (and i’ve lived with many wood heat stoves and other sources of carbon monoxide), i’m not what you would think of as paranoid and in need of all these electronic devices for protection of everything. But i’m selling this house and these gizmos are required. This was the least expensive one i could find.

Cheaper in stores

Nice detector. You can usually find these for about half the price in stores though

Replace 10 years from 'initial power up'

There are two ’10 years’ facts to note:

1) the device is designed to last for ’10 years’. The manual clearly states that this is ’10 years from initial power up’ (and more specifically, it’s not from the manufactured date.) i ordered and received mine in march 2020. The device itself was manufactured in december 2017, or about 2 years and 3 months ago. However, based on the manual, i would expect the device to last ’10 years from initial power up’, which would be march 2030. Only time will tell.

2) the device has a ’10 year’ warranty. This warranty, however, is from the date of purchase. So make a note of when you purchased it (and again, not when it was manufactured). I think most of us buy it when we need it. So the purchase date and the ‘initial power up’ would be close to each other.

It was easy to install and came with screws and such – everything that you need to get it installed (including 2 aa batteries). I don’t really know how to independently test if the device works. But the test button certainly did what it said it would.

So why only 4 stars? Omg, the ever-so-difficult-to-open-plastic-clamshell!!

10 years?

This was a direct replacement for my kidde kn-cob that had run it’s course. It lasted about 5 or 6 years which is quite a bit lower than the advertised 10 years (fresh battery didn’t cure the problem). I would have gone with another brand but other co2 detectors, frankly, have styling that is pretty darned dismal in the horizontal format that i needed. So reluctantly i went with the kn-cob again. It sits on the wall silently doing it’s thing and doesn’t make a big deal out of it (looks-wise). If you have a wood burning stove in your home like i do, a co2 detector is a must-have for piece of mind. Expect it to not last 10 years however

2nd purchase of same model. Works great

Product arrived in plastic shell pkg with batteries. Quick setup. This is the second detector of this brand & type purchased. Had the 1st in basement for a couple years & works well. Added this second unit for a second story bedroom as recommended by furnace company. Our furnace filter was clogged, (was advised not to buy thickest type), which shut down furnace but the fan was still running overnight.
Read this model’s instructions for best placement, it has do not place here requirements (not near vents, not under ceiling fans, etc.)
seller provided quick delvy
