Looking for specific info?

Does it support both 2g and 5g connection?

Yes it supports both the 2.4 ghz and the 5 ghz bands.

Is the router compatible with xpods from xfinity ?

Probably. Routers generally work with anyone’s internet. They don’t care.

Can i run both 2.4ghz and 5ghz at the same time and get full speed of 600mbps on 2.4ghz 1200mbps on 5ghz?

Yes, it is possible.
Please note that it is rather a maximum theoretical throughput so there can be many factors that will affect your wifi performance.

For more information, please see this kb article:
https://kb.netgear.com/000037824/what-factors-can-affect-my-wifi-performance

Is this work as point-to-point protocol over ethernet connection ?

The wax202 can be set up as a wifi bridge to another access point or wifi router that provides the wired internet connection and that functions as the base. To know more, kindly read page 169-172 of the wax202 user manual here: https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/gdc/wax202/wax202_wax206_um_en.pdf?_ga=2.265046095.116849950.1661962672-1404418671.1661962672

Does it support wps?

Yes, this supports wps.

Is this compatible with centurylink techicolorc1100t?

You can use wax202 together with centurylink techicolorc1100t

Mu-mimo supported?

Yes, use the owners manual to configure this device for an office setting or for use in a hotel motel setting

What is the processor model?

The tech wiki lists this as having a mt7621a. This one is a dual-core 880mhz processors. It lists as having 512mb of ram and 128mb of flash storage. It is supported by openwrt in a recent snapshot.

Any computer requirement?

There are no computer requirements, it will work with any system that has wifi (or wired system if you are connecting by ethernet).

Will it work with a moca adaptor?

This wax206 has no bonded coax connection. Therefore, you will need a moca adaptor at each end of you coax wiring. If the coax wiring is up to spec and the moca adapters meet your speed requirements, you should be fine.

Is the wax202 works in 240v?

Check with netgear for a power adapter for 240 volts. The actual device runs on only 12volts.

64 devices? Does this mean 64 more devices beside the 50 my router supports?

The answer is yes and no. Yes because it can handle the traffic of 64 devices itself. No because your router only sees it as one device. So basically, up to 64 can be seen by this device and funneled to the router through one wired connection. You put this in an area where your wi-fi reception is bad, and it handles the devices in that area and sends the data from them to the router. Technically you will have a possible 114 connections but the router itself will still only see this device as one of 50. If you have 64 devices connected to this device, they all go over the single connection to the router. I hope this helps.

Can i use this as a wifi extender instead of a primary router?

Did yours come with the installation guide and warranty/support card? I think i received a used one.

Just come with installion guide only.

Is this an extendor

No. The wax202 can be set either as router mode or ap (access point) mode. Great coverage

I added this as a wi-fi access point to my home network to replace the built-in wi-fi in my xfinity router. With the xfinity router i could get about 50 mb/s download speed to my ipad but with this i get over 500, probably limited by xfinity, not this ap. And it has a much stronger signal with better access throughout the house. Only thing i didn’t like is the flashing blue lights that show activity on the 2.4 and 5 gb bands. I have the router in my family room and at night the flashing lights were disruptive, but i read the manual and there is an easy way to change the settings so they don’t flash. They are still on, but because they no longer flash it is more like a dim nightlight which is actually helpful if i need to get up in the middle of the night.

Great home router

Super easy to set up with good features. 3 wi-fi ssid with client isolation. Can disable wireless clients lan access. Wish it has vlan to isolate some iot devices. But for the price, it’s very good value.

So easy to install

We got more office space, but we had ethernet , but no wireless, so i had to buy equipment, it was so easy to install and get operating. Easy to set a unique name and password for the install. Now it works great, and is a no brainer to install. Very well done equipment

5Expert Score
A great value wap upgrade

I do have to run distinctly named 2.4ghz and 5ghz ssids to allow clients to force use of 5ghz channels, but that’s something i also had to do with the ubiquiti wap that this one replaced, so no big deal. Seems to have plenty of signal strength.

Requires laptop with ethernet connection for setup. May update firmware but not required

Size is compact and provides both wifi and ethernet connections.

Perfect for small 2 story apartment.

Got it on sale for a good price. Works perfect in a small two story apartment with many other overlapping wi-fi signals. Range good. Speed good. No need to spend tons of money for some fancy router for basic needs. This is it.

(p.s. Save money and stop renting equipment from your isp!!!! Just get this!)

Excellent bargain that works with the released version of openwrt

I updated it to use openwrt and it is now a joy to use – the first router i can ssh into 🙂 . Range and speed seem to be great and reliability has been excellent as well. My previous router was also a netgear so i continue to be a happy customer of this brand – their default firmware sucks quite a bit due to its need to connect to the internet before it will let initial setup proceed but with openwrt, this thing is a joy to use. Highly recommended, esp. At the sale prices that one can sometimes get.

If you have wifi from a cable company…buy this

I live in nyc and like a lot of nyers, i have optimum cable. For months, the signal would just drop out of nowhere and when i would call customer service, it felt like i was getting the runaround. Every time i tested my wifi speed, the score was so low. I finally got them to set up a tech appointment but it was months away. On a whim, i purchased this item, and thanks to prime, i got it the next day, and boom! My wifi speed went from 18 to close to 100. I didn’t think it could go that fast. Prior to my internet always dropping, it only went as high as 50!
Don’t think twice about buying this…you got to get it. Best purchase i ever made.
Ps. Look at my recent speed test…now it’s over 100

Works well for the price.

It perform well with very good price. The good thing about it is that you can load openwrt firmware to fully open it’s potential.

Used this router for a month. I have no problem with wifi connection and never give me a lost connection. I happy with this wifi6 router.

It is a good router but it did not work with my company vpn

The set up of the router was easy for me, i am not a tech savvy. Did the speed test and everything looked fine. But when i worked from home the other day i could not get any internet speed after i connected the company vpn. It worked for my husbands company vpn but not mine. I contacted my it and they did not have a solution. I do not know if it is the router or my company vpn. I was thinking to keep it just for home use. But it was not too convenient for me to switch back and force with routers when i have to work form home. I got it at a very cheap price and i would keep it as a back up but i just decided to return it(do not want so many electronic products at home) and hope they can improve this model. This model is not a popular model from netgear. I got very limited information online. But if you are to use it for home use it is a good router. Fast speed and easy to set up.

Decent signal, easy to setup, good management page

This was purchased to replace my 12 year old netgear n type router so that i could add the 5ghz band that my security system required. The router was easy to setup and get going, but i have noticed a reduction in connection strength from my old router, also a reduced range which may be the 5ghz band, but i chose the ‘auto select best band’ option so i would expect when i start getting out of range of the 5ghz the router would switch to the 2.4ghz for that device. I have not done enough testing to see if it is or not, but my signal range has definitely shortened.

Works great but very clearly not new

Bought the router new but packaging had residue from previous tape indicating it was opened before. Unfortunate but the router works well so no complaints there.

4 star – issues with xbox

Giving this router/ap 4 stars instead of 5 for having issues with xbox gaming. I installed it in my network as the main router out of the modem and have a number of access points providing wifi coverage. For whatever reason this router did not play nice with my xbox. It would consistently disconnect me during multiplayer on multiple games. I tried changing settings in the router but it did not seem to help. Ended up switching it out for one of my other routers and using it currently as an access point. May try again later and see if the issue can be resolved. If anyone has experienced this and can help definitely appreciate it!

In terms of the de ice itself i’m glad with the purchase it is easy to use in terms of interface and provides great signal and speed.

4Expert Score
Excellent quality, not difficult to install

First off, this thing can be either a wireless router or a wireless access point. While that may be awesome for some, i already have a capable router/firewall and do not want any access points accidentally handing out ip addresses if they lose their programming. I’ve had it happen before with other brands.

Also, i cannot stand the way netgear includes a yellow ethernet cable. You should never bend an ethernet cable like that. Roll it up in a circle with a diameter no smaller than a can of soda.

Also, being well versed in it, setting these up was more difficult than it needed to be. If you’re not technical, i can imagine that these would be super easy to set up. But power users may struggle a bit to find where some settings are hidden, and there are some that i still haven’t found.

Been using them for over a week now and i’m getting good signal strength and throughput.

I put one near the bedroom tv and the leds for the 2.4 ghz band and 5 ghz band are so bright and blinky that i had to move them so i could sleep.

Also, i don’t see any way to mount them to a wall, mount them in a communications rack, etc. Pretty much all you can do is stand it up. I generally prefer a few more options so that they will fit in with the rest of my network equipment.

I know i’ve mentioned a lot of stuff i don’t like about these and netgear devices in general, but they are very competent at doing what they are intended to do. If you can live with these minor annoyances, they should work just fine for you.

Worth it

For the money it’s worth it

Good value for the money. Seems a solid performer

This unit is sold primarily as an access point but has router and bridge modes in the settings. It comes set as a router by default.

The tricky part in setup is getting the ip address so you can access the web interface. If need be you can always connect your smartphone browser to the wifi and access setup from there.

Access point setup – straight forward and the simplest.

Router mode – a very basic router, no vpn provision, no firewall. Setup won’t allow you to use the same subnet as the wan gateway. If you want to do that use the ap mode.

Bridge mode – for some reason wireless was disabled with no way to enable it even though it has wireless settings and documentation shows using as a wireless bridge.

Signal is strong and steady. I get a fair signal through four walls. You can set three separate ssid with each set to dual or single bands. Wireless can handle both bands concurrently. What’s not to like?

Maximum connection speed is 1200mbps. If you want 2400mbps go with the wax206 (same tower form factor).

4Expert Score
Great access point

Great access point. A little difficult to configure if you have another netgear, cisco or calix router, hub or switch on the network. Once configured works great. I am linked via 300 feet of utp cat6 cable to my shop to this access point and am able to obtain 968 mbps internet speed. Only a 32 mbps speed reduction via 300 feet of underground cable is excellent for any access point, i was hoping for 500 mbps or higher and am getting almost gigabit speed! The only reason for the 4-stars was the product had been previously opened and no documentation was provided!

Using as a media bridge / client

I don’t like the ui of this router, but it was on sale and makes a decent ax/wifi6 media bridge / client to feed ethernet to 3 devices.
