How many devices does it hold?

Pretty sure the total devices that any netgear router can hold is 32 clients per band. So if your router has two bands (2 and 5 ghz), then you should be able to support up to 64 clients, but you need to be mindful of what devices you’ve assigned for each band.

New apartment router: r6700 or c7? They are the same price right now and i was wondering what the consensus is here.

The c7 is definately the best choice. This router has a far better processor than the r6700. Netgear recently switched to a new processor in the current version of the r6700 shipping here on amazon (the r6700 v2). The new version of the r6700 uses a cheaper mkt processor whose performance is sub par compared to its original qualcomm processor. Stick with the archer c7. Both are almost identical and the performance is better on the archer c7. Do yourself a favor and stick with the c7!

After 1 year and 1 month it stopped working all of a sudden, just a blinking white led on the on/off light. No wireless and no lan connection.

But, please be aware of the fact this router only has a 3 month warrantee. It is not as advertised with a 1 year warrantee. After 3 months, you must pay a “ransom” of between $50 to $140 dollars to get any sort of help with your router issues. My netgear nighthawk broke within the 3 month warrantee, and i have not been able to get it fixed after numerous calls. It is now in a junk pile, and replaced with a $60 d-link router that will handle the speed you require.
As always, your mileage may vary. Good luck.

How many devices does this actually support? I see it says up to 4x device capacity but 4x compared to what? What’s the actual device capacity?

It says 4 x 1gb ethernet ports. This means it has 4 each, 1gb ports that you can plug wired ethernet devices into. It doesn’t mean 4 *times* device capacity.

Can i use this device for at&t 1000 mbps connection? Do i need to buy additional devices or configuration?

Yes, this netgear unit is a router with speed up to 1750 mbps. So, it will work with your at&t device. You just need to connect the at&t modem to this router with an ethernet cable. No other device is needed.

Again, thank you very much for giving us the opportunity to serve you. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Have a nice day.

Can this be configured as an access point or bridge so as not to conflict with existing router

Access point and bridge repeater is not the same. Access point has to connect directly to main router. Bridged or repeater is connected via wifi and can be placed anywhere in the home.

I have att dsl, would this be compatible?

It will work, if you are having reach issues this will solve most of your problems. As far as it making it faster no, no it won’t make it faster but it will give you consistency throughout your home. You’ll still need to use the att modem you just plug this one into the yellow ports available. Best of all if you move or change providers you can use this router still.

Can it support 5 ips?

What do you mean? It will support up to 255 devices inside of your home, like pc, laptops, game systems, tv, dvd, a/v receivers etc. It you are asking if you can buy internet service from 5-different internet providers, e.g. Spectrum, and att, and verizon, and comcast, an cox, etc, and connect 5 of them up to this router — then no you can not.

If i have no wifi at all and use the wifi router can i connect it to a hisense 32 inch smart tv and get wifi to connect to apps

Yes
if your tv is smart and connects to wifi then it connects to this router. You need an internet modem and isp

How do i return this item? We no longer need it and amazon is not giving me the option to return. Please help

Usually you’re able to rerun items within 30 days of purchase.

We just got this and it’s labeled r6700v3. Does anyone have any experience with the ‘upgrade’ from the much-complained-about v2?

I returned my r6700v3 for constant dns issues. I purchased a competitor’s router. I am pleasantly please with my new router’ ease of use and top-notch performance, with both ethernet and wifi. I’m not familiar with the performance of netgear’s new ax model of the r6700.

How can i turn off the bright white lights on this?

You can turn off all of the lights (except the power) or customize them in advanced settings. Here’s a link that describes how to do it. Https://kb.netgear.com/24603/how-do-i-disable-enable-the-led-lights-on-my-nighthawk-router

Can netgear 4-stream ax1800 be used as an access point with a nighthawk r7900p router?

Dont know of the r7900 functionality. But you could jack in to the router thru a wire connection to make adjustments. Or use the netgear nighthawk app and to do the same. But if wanted to go the long way using wifi thru the ax1800 into the r7900 it is possible with the nighthawk app.

Does it have a firewall?

Yes

What network extender is recommended with this router?

It would probably help if you stick with a netgear extender as it is supported by the nighthawk app. Something like a netgear ex2800 or ex5000 azna.

What will be the monthly charge/?

No monthly payment

I have wow internet but am tired of renting their modem every month. Is this compatible with that?

From your question, it seems like you are trying to replace the modem. This netgear nighthawk ac1750 device is a router, not a modem. To clarify: a modem ‘translates’ the signal from the internet service provider (isp) into a digital network-ready signal. From there, the router ‘distributes’ that digital network signal out to the various devices throughout your house (using wireless radio signal and/or hard-wired cat5 or cat6 cabling).
Do some research and see if there is an after-market modem which is compatible with the wow internet system, or perhaps a combination modem with router.

Will this work with at&t they told me i have to use their router?

I have my at&t router plugged into my nighthawk

I only have internet with my phone could i use this wireless router with?

Sounds like you mean you have cellular service and not service with spectrum or verizon as a home internet. If you only have cell phone service you wouldn’t need a wifi router. But if you are using internet through spectrum or verizon etal then you would benefit from wifi.

Why doesn’t it work? Why is it chocking speeds? Why do i have to pay for shipping on a replacement?

If you pay for speeds higher than 50mbps from your isp, you will need a gigabyte router (gbps) to accomplish that bc most mbps routers, not all, you’ll only get a throughput of approximately 50-75% wlan (wireless output) of your paying speed via your isp (internet service provider). You cannot get any higher speed with any router more than what you pay your isp for you to get. Example: if you pay for 100mbps, and your router says it will give you speeds up to 500mbps or 1 gbps, you wont get 500mbps or 1 gbps testing or otherwise to your devices unless you are paying for those speeds thru your isp. You cannot increase your speed with any device unless you are paying for a higher speed, and those speeds probably cost $200/month just for cable internet service to get that, i dont know bc i’ve never asked nor do i need those speeds, and those rip-off costs keep rising, and not many people dont need that fast except businesses and it professionals.

Setup could not be easier!

Set up was so simple—took less than half an hour and that includes setting up disney circle profiles and customizing everyone’s filters. I was relieved to learn that nighthawk has circle capabilities built in as they are the best parental controls out there. You will have to pay a yearly subscription for circle, but to me it is worth peace of mind to have such specific and customizable parental controls for every person in my household. We had a very old netgear router that could not handle multiple streaming devices, so it has been eye-opening to see just how well the nighthawk can handle. Lots of device is streaming at the same time without interruption. I did install a range extender for upstairs, but i almost didn’t need it. I have enjoyed using the nighthawk app as it always alerts me to new devices that are joining my network, and i appreciate the option of having a guest wi-fi. I like that i can test our internet speed anytime and anywhere in our house. Really pleased by this purchase, even though i was intimidated to set up a new router. I did not need any tech support!

Great upgrade

I had an older netgear router for several years. I recently had to upgrade to a new hotspot device since everything is going 5g. We don’t have fiber in our area. The old router was having connectivity issues with my new modem and i was having trouble uploading updated files to a website i maintain. I read where you should upgrade your router at least every five years. I had the old one for eight. There are cheaper routers out there, but i wanted to get a good one this time. This is a good midrange router. It’s still not the top of the line but works very well. It solved all my issues. The only thing you need to do is if you have a voip, you need to go into the settings and check the disable sip alg tab under advanced/ wan setup/ nat filtering. After that, you are good to go.

Absolutely great router, sketchy company

Pros: it is a fantastic router, really spreads the coverage

cons: 4 months into owning it the router bricked during an update (do not update from the app, i learned my lesson). After waiting on hold for 2 hours i finally got through to someone, after basic troubleshooting which i already did they told me i need to be sent a replacement….cool

i had to pay for the shipping!!! A 4 month old product that went defective i had to pay for the shipping, that is my kinder words is absolute dog crap. Love the router, hate the company. In hindsight i should have just filed a claim with amex but now i know

Increased my wifi 3 fold

Old router had max 100 mbs on ethernet. Yuck. Speedtest showed 93 mbs max wifi. Bought this router. Ethernet ports are blazing. Wifi on phone and laptop went from 93mbs to around 243mbs (i pay for 200mbs service through xfinity). Setup wasn’t great, but manageable.

Note!!! If you have several echo/alexa devices as i do…just give it about 25 minutes, they will update and connect. It just takes time.

Needed an upgrade

I was upgrading to fiber optic internet. So i chose the netgear nighthawk ac1750 smart wifi router (r6700v3) as my router upgrade. The set up was easy- peasy. I was up and running within 10 minutes. My whole house is covered. My outside coverage is now beyond my lot line with no drop offs. So all in all i’m more than satisfied with my choice and actually i just purchased another to add an access point to my network.

It works 100 percent with cox internet

Recently my isp has had major slow connection speeds and i grew tired of this. I went ahead and got the router and modem in hopes of better speeds connection etc. Right away i noticed the change and have been happy ever since i clicked buy! My speed has jumped from the low 300 to high 800s and i couldnt be any less happier about this!! I give this product a 10/10 and not just for looks but engineering of this product is just great.

What a difference!

Had my 14 year old grandsons set it up for me. No problems at all! What a difference it makes compared to my old router which was 10? Or more years old. Now every room in my house has a strong signal and my whole yard. Grandsons were very happy with the difference it made when all 4 are gaming. Highly recommend this router especially if yours is older.

5Expert Score
Easy to setup. Fast 1g backbone, great router and access point, didnt see any 2.4g speed improvement

I installed 2 of these routers to upgrade my home network. 1st unit as a router and the 2nd as an access point. My research said the r6700 was one of the best access points also.

Wired performance:
— ive installed the r6700 router with 4ea d-link unmanaged 1g switches to reach all the locations in my home and sometimes cascaded the switches and everything works great. (i mention cascading switches because in the past i have had issue when cascading switches but not issues with this setup)
— better wired performance: i have a 8 wireless camera security system that uses its own wireless network video recorder and some of the cameras have poor signal so now switched them over to the wired 1g backbone. A marked improvement in the video update and even the control on the pan tilt zoom (ptz) cameras is instantly responsive
— great status lights: the ethernet port activity lights are great because they have different colors depending on the speed of the network connection. This is really handy when installed a mix of 100m and 1g links so you can tell if things are connected as you planned.

Wifi performance:
— the nighthawk replaced a 13 year old wireless router (d-link 605l) using only a 2.4ghz wireless network.
— same 2.4g performance: when comparing speeds from my normal laptop wireless location i have not noticed any real improvement in the signal strength nor the connection speed for the old router to the new r6700 at 2.4g.
— great 5g performance. When comparing 2.4g to 5g there was typically at 70% improvement in throughput speed from the same laptop.
— flexible configuration: once can turn off the wireless totally or just the 2.4g or the 5g. This is just a nice feature to lower your wireless risk footprint say if you only use 2.4g.

Router configuration:
— easy setup: it was easy to setup the router. In my case i set up the r6700 to match the configuration of the d-link it replaced so i did not have any issues with all the other devices in the house connecting.
— it went fairly smoothly, but on my laptop i did have to delete the original connection and reconnect to get it to work.
— very sophisticated: it has some very sophisticated configuration possibilities all of which i will never use.
— there are 3 levels of configuration with each level allowing more and more complex and detailed setups.
— i was surprised that to turn off the 5g wireless i had to drill down to the 3rd level to find that config. Seems like that would be a very basic config setting.
— i really love the display that provides several indicators to give one an instant view of the health and operation of the unit.

Could be better:
— needs mounting tabs: i do wish it had some mechanical mounting capability to secure to a shelf or mount vertically on a wall but its simply a shelf item. With all the cables hanging off the back there is some weight there that wants to pull the nighthawk off the shelf.
— status light orientation: the status lights are best viewed when looking down on the r6700. When straight its difficult. It would have been better if the lights were mounting at a 45 degree so they could easily be viewed straight on as well.

Update: i purchased a 2nd r6700 and installed in the same network above as an access point. It was easy to set up using a fixed ip and the 5g performance was better than 2x the 2.4g network. And of course the 1g ethernets are great as i have several security cameras running over the network.

Fantastic product

Wow! Great product overall! I recieved the nighthawk router for my new place and it has been amazing so far! I have already recommended it to some friends and family because of how reliable it is. Perfect router for all your gaming and streaming needs! 5/5 stars easy!

So far so good

Nothing but issues with all of the routers 6 supplied by my internet / wifi supplier, which is why i purchased this. So far so good. But… Had the instructions said to press the wifi button on the router in order to connect, it would have saved me many hours of aggravation.

R6700v3 -great router so far

Upgrading my mom’s router from an older linksys wireless n router to this r6700.
So far, signal coverage and speeds are great, but only a months use so far. In that time no need for a single reboot and no dropped connections and portable devices re-connect with no issues.
She pays comcast for 100mbps, and whether wired or wireless(ac) at the furthest point in her apartment, she is getting 120mbps (her old wireless n was getting 30 mbps wireless on a good day, usually 13-15mbps). When on wireless n, it drops to 35-50mbps (still better than her old one).
Setup was ok, i just don’t like apps to set up, i like doing it on a computer, and this tries to force you into using an app. I understand the simplistic approach, but getting to advanced settings is a little weird at first.

I also like that it allows me to turn off all the lights (except the power) because this sits on a dresser in my mom’s room, and would be very bright if they were all on (several bright white led’s on there, as well as a few amber). The single power led is also a little bright, but not too bad. I may still put a piece of tape over it.

I am still trying to figure out why they put the usb on the front of the unit instead of the back? Just weird to have a usb stick or cable run out of the front of it instead of the back with all the other cables. I guess if you insert and remove the usb a lot it makes sense, but for a usb drive that is always in, not so much. In my case i am not using the usb, so not a huge deal, but if i was, it would be more of an annoyance. At least they did put in a usb 3.0, seems some companies are still putting usb 2.0 on these fast routers for some reason.
1/2 star off for the front mounted usb.

The big issue i have with this router is not being able to set both the 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz networks to the same ssid.
Really? I have been doing this for years on multiple routers with no issues. It makes it so much simpler to setup networks. Why?
This seems to be a common complaint on some netgear routers, and if i had know beforehand it was an issue, i may not have purchased it. The amazon description says this has smart connect, but do not see anywhere to enable it (apparently it is available on other models on description page, but not the 6700).
I almost installed dd-wrt on it because of this limitation set by netgear, but since it is at my mom’s and i don’t know the reliability of this yet, i passed (for now). I may still put dd-wrt on it in the long run just because of this though.

4 month update:
still working great. Have not restarted it once except for power outages.
Unit has remote feature that i can check status and adjust settings from my home network to my mothers home, works great for that (does require an account with netgear and their app though).
The issue with naming 2.4 and 5ghz different is not as big a deal since once the home setup was done at her house (her phone, my phone, her tablet, her laptop, and a wireless extender), i have not had to mess with it. I set up her guest network only on 2.4, so she can share that with who she needs to, and the name and password are written down for her to give out. While still an annoyance, not a deal breaker and not enough for me to switch it to dd-wrt like i had contemplated. If at my house, i probably would, but that is because i like to mess with stuff like that. For my moms setup, not needed and just simpler as is.
I added a star since it was not as big an issue as i first thought, so only 1/2 star off for that, and 1/2 star off for usb on front.

Login to nighthawk router loop

Easy to setup out of the box. The router made my upload speed stay under 100 but the download speed stayed high. I have (1000 download 1000 upload). Tried logging in to the router over 20 times while connected to wifi and ethernet. Didn’t work every time. Called support they said to factory reset it after i did. It still didn’t let me log in. I am able to connect my pc and ps5 via ethernet to the nighthawk with no issues. I would like to open my ports and/or adjust my router settings but i can not.

Good router for the money

This router seems pretty good so far. If you want wifi 6 i would recommend this router for the money. Seems to manage things pretty well. Wifi signal seems very good so far i get good signal upstairs but i have a small house.

Solid router for the money

Nothing out of this world in terms of features or signal, however it offers all around good performance especially for the money. The app is really great for monitoring connected devices and change passwords/etc. I do wish the signal strength were a little stronger, in a larger space you would most likely want it as centered as possible. Overall solid router though.

Pretty good, follow the setup instructions

I use this router with the expressvpn firmware and i’ve had very few issues with it. It doesn’t always reach towards the other rooms in my apartment though which is kind of annoying. If you’re using the stock firmware, be certain to follow the instructions to a t. I spent 3 hours trying to figure out why my setup wasn’t working and it was because i didn’t reboot my router, unplug my modem, etc.

Works great. Problem configuring it on a phone

Only had it one day but so far works as advertised. That said i had some issues doing advanced setup on my android phone. I couldn’t change the router’s ip address. I got it changed i thought but it revetted back when i left the page. Finally logged on to it from my pc. What i found was a button at the far right bottom of the screen that said ‘apply’. This was not visible on my phone without scrolling to the bottom right. The text is small and you need to do a lot of scrolling to find it on a phone. Now it’s up and running just fine. 5 stars except for the mobil interface.
