Would this product be useful to help transition african-american hair from relaxed to natural?

If i understood your question, you want to know if your chemically relaxed hair can return to its natural texture…? As a user of coconut oil and as a hair stylist i can tell you that other than moisturizing, this oil cannot revert a chemical hair process… In order to get your curls back you need to be evaluated by a professional because it will depend on the product used to relax your hair.

Coconut oil is coming up as a great treatment for oral health. Do you brush your teeth before or after a rinse with coco nut oil.?

Hi main line mama, oil pulling is an ancient practice in ayurvedic medicine, shown to naturally accelerate the body’s detoxification process. Place 1 tablespoon of coconut oil in the mouth and swish for 20 minutes. Swishing activates enzymes and the enzymes draw toxins out of the blood. It is recommended to complete this process on an empty stomach, best in the morning. After 20 minutes, spit out the end product in the trash can and brush your teeth following this step. This will rev up your metabolism for the day and promote healthier gums and teeth due to the health-promoting saturated fatty acids found in coconut oil. Keep in mind that refined coconut oil, derived from dried coconut, does not reap the same benefits as unrefined, organic coconut oil. Viva labs organic extra virgin coconut oil is 100% pure, unrefined coconut oil, retaining all of its nutritional properties. Is this non-hydrogenated?

Hi min7,
coconut oil is naturally a hydrogenated fat so it does not need to go through a hydrogenation process. This is what makes it stable! Hope this helps answer your question, and if you have any other questions you can reach us by responding to this comment thread or by email at amazon@vivalabs.com.

I s this a liquid or creamy texture ?

Ours arrived in a liquid form and has remained a liquid. Previous purchase was more of a soft solid which we prefer.

Can i use it for my hair

Hi dina, you can absolutely use coconut oil for your hair. It is a natural conditioner which means it can be used pre- and post-washing. It coats the hair shaft and is primarily used for luster and shine, hair growth, but offers many more properties as well. You can apply it to the root of your hair or to the ends. Hi. Would anyone know how long this lasts after opening? Thank you for your help.

Hi 127,due to coconut oil’s unique fatty acid profile, it has a longer shelf life compared to traditional cooking oils. Natural saturated fatty acids serve as preserving agents while boosting energy levels, improving metabolism and defending cells against the effects of oxidation. Our coconut oil has a shelf-life of two years once opened. Hope this helps answer your question, and if you have any other questions you can reach us by responding to this comment thread or by email at amazon@vivalabs.com.besaregistered nutritionistviva labs

What time af the day shoud i use coconut oil for weight loss?? And how?

Hi francisco, for weight loss it is best to consume our coconut oil earlier in the day as mcts increase energy levels. Medium-chain triglycerides (mcts) are health-promoting saturated fatty acids, naturally occurring in coconut oil, that have been clinically shown to regulate metabolism and improve overall body composition. We recommend consuming three to four tablespoons per day either directly from the spoon, as a delicious spread on breads, in smoothies, or added to your favorite recipes. Why does it smell like popcorn

If you remember back in the day when sears had a candy department that sold delicious popcorn that sent a wonderful alluring smell throughout the store! It was popped in 100% coconut oil! The aroma nobody could resist! I managed that department.

Why does it have a nasty old musty smell after leaving it in your hair for more than 25 minutes?

Dear curtis, our coconut oil is highly absorbent and contains vitamin-e and lauric acid, which penetrate deep within the skin to assist in healing and moisturizing skin and hair. As every individual’s needs are different, reactions to any new skincare and haircare regimen can vary from person to person, and may, in fact, worsen symptoms before alleviating them. Coconut oil is known for its antibacterial properties, as such, when applied to the skin or hair it will bring out any impurities, and this is a good sign. We recommend continuing to use our coconut oil for about a week or so to allow your hair to adjust. For dry, coarse hair, we recommend applying our coconut oil before bedtime twice per week as a deep conditioning treatment. You may then wash your hair in the morning following your regular shampoo regimen.i hope that this information has been helpful, as it is our goal that everyone who shops with viva labs has a wonderful experience, and for that, we offer a 90-day guarantee. Oil pulling

An interesting answer can be found at : http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-7857/why-you-should-start-oil-pulling-today.html

I just received my jar and from reading some questions and reviews i think mine is bad. It came as pure clear liquid and it has a bad coconut smell.

My jar had a solid white coconut oil substance in it. It melts to a clear liquid in your hands with the warmth of your skin, but it is definitely a solid to start and has to be scooped out of the jar with a spoon since it is hard. Also the odor of my coconut oil is not very strong. You can smell the nutty/ coco-nutty smell when it is warmed and applied to my skin, but the odor is not very strong. I would request a new jar for sure if i was you!

Does this have the coconut scent? I see a lot of contradictions on this.

Hi michelle, thank you for your question! Viva naturals organic extra virgin coconut should have a pleasantly mild coconut aroma with a distinct coconut taste. As compared to other oils which spoil easily, coconut oil has a superior shelf-life stability due to its fatty acid composition and overall nutrient profile.i hope this helps! My hair is over 25 inches long…. How much should i use since my hair is much longer than the average length.

That depends on -are you using this after showering – or – during showering as a conditionerif you are using it after showering, like me (male with short hair) then you’ll want to use very little, otherwise you’ll end up with (oily) hair that looks wet all the time. In your case, i think it would take a while to thoroughly work it into all of your hair.start with half a teaspoon, melt it completely onto your hands, and start at the roots, using a light touch at first to get everything thoroughly distributed onto your scalp, and then massaging it vigorously with your hands to work it in. You’ll probably have to use a comb with all of your hair to distribute it (a little goes a long way). Repeat that process until you get an idea of how much you like to leave in your hair. (guaranteed you’ll put too much the first time :d)if you’re using it in the shower, you have alot more leeway in terms of overuse, because you can easily wash it out and towel dry to remove most of it. I would still use the same bit-by-bit method here, though.hope that helps!

Where are the coconuts sourced from?

All over the world actually that are in humid or tropical type weather. Most however, due to cost, are harvested in the philippines. They are the best actually! Even majority of hawaiian products for fragrance or raw, use their coconuts too!

Is this oil supposed to be like liquid or more like a paste?

-paste but if it gets hot it turns to liquid its still good and will harden back up in a cool area

Does this coconut originate from thailand?

It’s from the philippines.

Can this restore damaged bleached hair?

My hair was bleached as well, i’m not certain if it will restore it, but i know if the hair is damaged from bleaching there is only one way to make it look pretty again, trim the ends and use this product in conjunction. You will love it because it immediately will make a difference in the appearance of your hair. Please let me know when you use it and how it worked out for you. :)oh and btw, leave it in a bit longer before you wash it out. I add at least 10 more minutes to it. There are instructions on the container that you can fallow.

What are our customers saying?

5Expert Score
My top pick for organic coconut oil

I’m very strict with my diet. I eat only organic foods, practice cron (calorie restriction with optimal nutrition), eat minimal carbs and lots of nutrients. I’ve tested 7 brands of organic coconut oil — nature’s way, nutiva, spectrum naturals, bronner’s, ziggy marley organics, vivalabs, and 2 small scale raw food companies. Nature’s way and vivalabs are the best so far.

The aroma of nature’s way and vivalabs both are wonderful. The texture is much fuller than the other brands. This coconut oil has bolder taste and less watered-down feeling than the other brands. I know that the way coconut oil (and all oils for that matter) is processed is very important. Better processing methods preserve more nutrients, increase the natural flavor and aroma, and improved digestibility. So if you’re looking for a good organic coconut oil, this is one by nature’s way is excellent, as is vivalabs brand too.

Now for some quick facts about how amazingly healthy this stuff is:

1) medium chain fatty acids –> digest very easily without requiring the gall bladder to do much work. Most fats require the body to work harder for digestion. Medium chain fatty acids energy the blood stream very quickly, with less digestion time than slow or long chain fatty acids, found in other oils. This makes coconut oil excellent for people missing gallbladders, having digestive problems or suffering from chronic fatigue.

2) converts to usable energy very quickly. Coconut oil is a much more balanced and less manic energy than any carbohydrate (fructose, lactose, glucose, etc). Carbohydrate break down quickly and elevate blood sugar and insulin levels rapidly. This creates the surge and crash. With coconut oil, the energy is delivered more slowly and evenly than carbs. Many people feel deeply nourished by coconut oil, like the food energy goes deeper within the body.

3) anti-viral, anti-parasitic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal. Coconut oil keeps your digestive system very clean inside. It will destroy candida, and common cold bacteria and flu viruses. This helps to balance intestinal (probiotic) bacteria and gives the immune system support. Less sickness and more energy!

4) longer lasting energy without insulin levels being adversely affected. Fats are the cleanest burning energy for our body. Carbohydrates cause insulin levels to raise and crash, which is what creates the ‘eat every 3 hours’ cravings that so many people this is hunger. Healthy fats, like this oil, will not affect insulin and give us much more stable energy that last longer in the body.

5) tastes great. Smells great.

6) can be used topically to make the skin very soft. Coconut oil is absorbed directly into the skin to nourish it (like a food for the skin), unlike most cosmetic moisturizers create a coating on top the skin. These often leave residue or cause long-term dryness by unbalancing the body’s innate skin oil balance. Coconut supports the skin’s natural oil balance. This also helps to reduce wrinkles!

7) great for hair and can be used as a leave-on conditioner. Like it’s skin use, coconut oil will not imbalance the hair’s natural oils…. Unlike chemical-based conditioners. Plus, because coconut is anti-‘everything bad’ it will keep the hair clean too. Because there are so many different types of hair (dry, cracking, split ends, oily, curly, straight, etc) experiment with what works best. Try applying the oil only the the ends for extra protection from split ends. Or only to the scalp to stop dandruff (caused by scalp bacteria, often candida) or prevent hair loss.

8)natural soap for the body. Myself, some of my friends and others use coconut oil as a soap for the body. Most bar soaps and liquid bath soaps remove the skin’s natural oils and create dry skin. In fact, most people have dry skin and fail to see that the bath soap is causing it! We still need to clean our skin, but using coconut oil is better than soap in many cases. You may want to soap under the armpits, between the legs, on the hands and feet. But for the arms, legs, and torso (areas prone to dryness) try using only coconut oil.

Here’s the protocol that i use. 1) dry skin brush my entire body before stepping in the shower, to remove dead skin cells and increase blood flow to the skin (redness is good). 2) rise the body with hot water to open the pores and increase blood flow to the skin. 3) use a wet cloth or your hand to rub the skin rinse clean any loose skin cells. 4) turn off the water and use your fingers/hands to rub a light layer of coconut oil everywhere (minus your head hair). A light layer is all that is needed. Apply with your skin still wet and you’ll see the water bead up. 5) turn back on the water, this time to warm/cool, and rise off the excess coconut oil. Run your hand lightly over your skin to spread the excess coconut oil into places that may have less, and to help remove the excess altogether. Lightly is the key – you don’t want to remove the oil completely. 6) exit the shower and lightly tap dry your skin with a towel (do not rub your take off the oil) or air dry. The skin will absorb the coconut oil in a few minutes. Your skin will be soft to the touch and not oily. Don’t worry, coconut is not like other oils – it won’t stain your clothes or make them smell rancid.

9) sunscreen and suntan lotion. Coconut oil protects the skin from the effects too much sunlight. Technically, coconut oil does not block the sunlight, like a uv sunblock would. Instead it prevents the harmful chemical reaction skin bacteria and skin fungus can have when exposed to the suns uv rays. It also moisturizes the skin, reflects back some light (the shine), and prevents sunburn. Personally, i lay out in the summertime sun in arizona, florida and hawaii and when wearing coconut oil i can be out for 4-6 hours and not burn. In these powerful suns, 30 minutes to 1 hour of exposure without coconut oil and my skin is red and will peel days later. Although coconut oil does not block uv, it does wonders to protect the skin and create a great tan.

10) can be used as a sexual lubricant. Coconut oil is a natural anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial lubricant which helps keep these organs clean and reduce the spread of unwanted problem.

11) coconut oil detox cleanse. The medium chain fatty acids make this and ideal food for detox cleanses because the energy is available with minimal digestive effort, plus all of it’s anti-‘everything bad’ properties. The detox cleanse is a 3 to 7 day process where all carbohydrate foods are removed and coconut oil is eaten as the primary energy source (approx. 14 tablespoons each day). The oil can be combined with organic lemon water as well. You can find the instructions by googling ‘natural news coconut oil cleanse’. This is a very powerful detoxification because the bad guys are being killed by the oil. So be mindful.

That’s it! I hope you enjoyed this review. The bottom line is that coconut oil is simply amazing! Nature’s way and vivalabs brands are the best i’ve found so far. Enjoy!

Great stuff

I was skeptical and wasnt really sure how valuable of use this was for me and my kids. But once i used it on my own skin on my palms and feet, it really moisturized my diabetic dry skin. It helps prevent the severe cracks and peeling of my skin. I use this twice a day and it keeps my diabetic skin under control. I will definitely buy this again.

Great quality

I use this to pre-poo my natural hair and i love it. It’s thick enough to coat my strands for detangling and it made my hair so soft, so when i shampoo it’s less stripping. I love how it comes in a big container too for such a low price. This stuff is great quality, your hair will thank you!

Um, i use it on my dogs…

And all three of us are happy campers! I have two pit bulls and both have trouble with dry, itchy spots on their skin. I treat them regularly for fleas and mites, but they still had trouble. A vet (no longer my vet) recommended some cream that cost way to much, and you couldn’t let them lick it off because it would make them sick. That made me scratch my head??? I did a lot of research, and after trying several other remedy’s that didn’t help, decided to try coconut oil. Comparing quality with the price, this is good stuff. I use it on them after they get a bath and a couple of times a week. They don’t scratch constantly and don’t have raw spots. They smell good and if they lick some off my fingers, it doesn’t hurt them. Unless it gets really cold, it spreads easy and is not greasy like i thought it might be. Good stuff for the price. The jar i get last about 3 months. I will continue to use this in the future.

Best i’ve tried – love this product!!!!

I love this coconut oil and use it religiously for cooking every dish. It has a good strong flavor and light scent. I even add it to my coffee instead of mct oil. Will continue to buy and highly recommend.

Good skin moisturizer

I wanted something cheap and yet good for my skin for putting on after showering. I like the fact it melts in seconds on your skin. It’s a little greasy so i’d recommend using it at night, or waiting a bit to put on your clothes if you don’t want oily marks on them, but it dries pretty quick/the greasy marks don’t last long.

First off it tastes great. I put it in our food and give a very little bit to my dog. It also helps our dogs or our skin if it is dry and itchy. I put it on a rash on my pups belly and the rash went away. We use it as toothpaste for our dog. Like i said….many uses.
