OXO Good Grips Large Salad Spinner – 6.22 Qt.: A new spin on our classic design before the introduction of the oxo good grips salad spinner in 1998, crank or pull-tab salad spinners were considered high-end products. Some people even used the spin cycle of their washing machine to dry lettuce. Our easy-to-use spinner transformed the tool into an everyday kitchen essential. Nearly 20 years later, we revisited the spinner to make some updates while keeping the top features and original inspiration: a children’s top. With a modern design that complements contemporary kitchens and an improved brake that stops on a dime every time, we think you’ll love our new spin on the classic design. Dry salad greens with a simple press of the soft, non-slip knob. The non-slip base keeps the bowl steady on the countertop, and the updated built-in brake button stops the salad spinner for unloading. The basket doubles as a colander, and the lid comes apart for easy cleaning.

Can i use this to dry my lanrdy

I have one for greens. It does not dry as well as previous spinner i had. It is sturdy. I’ve seen folks living in rv’s and vehicles have used salad spinners. Maybe find an old one (less worry about pbpa for laundry?) at a thrift shop and try it out. It may be sturdier too, as the new ones seem to break.

How does the stainless compare to the plastic, can someone recommend one over the other?

My plastic spinner was made of hard plastic which, in my experience with other items made of that material, tends to crack over time. This spinner has a raised area on the bottom that the spinner basket sits on . The spinner part works like a children’s top which is much nicer. I like the stainless because it is durable, keeps things cold and fresh and is easier to clean. I think the cost was maybe $20 more than good quality plastic spinners but in my mind, is well worth it.

Is this salad spinner bpa free?

Yes most oxo products are bpa free, and according to the oxo site bpa free is listed specifically as a feature for this salad spinner.

How to separate top for cleaning smallspinner lid?

My sinner oxo good grip lid is not clear at all. Top part does not separate from bottom part as far as i can see. Are there older models that top does not separate for cleaning? I really need help with this!!! Very frustrated!

What size are the holes on this little salad spinner? Will my alfalfa sprouts go threw the holes?

The holes are pretty small (approx. 2mm wide and 20 mm long on the sides and varying lengths on the bottom up to 12 mm long) and i actually use mine to de-hull my broccoli sprouts with great success. Broccoli sprouts are small like alfalfa sprouts if you aren’t familiar with them. I love this little spinner as the holes are large enough to let the hulls out without losing the sprouts. A few small sprouts slip through but not that many at all. I hope this helps 🙂

What are the measurements (h+w+d) of the small size and the large size oxo good grips spinner. I need to determine where to store it

According to oxo’s site, the larger spinner is 10.5’x10.5’x5.9′ and the smaller one is 8” x 8” x 7”, but even that is confusing since we don’t know if that is with the plunger extended or locked, and i am guessing that it 5.9′ is with the large one locked and 7′ is with the small one extended, but it is not indicated at all. How many cups is the large vs the small spinner

I have the mini. Not sure of the capacity but the container holds 8-9 cups (measured with water). I would think the spinner bowl would hold about 6 cups. Works fine for the 2of us.

Will it work well for spinning delicate clothing?

Yes, it will spin out the extra water. A friend told me about this trick and i have been using it in this way ever since. I can even fit a cotton women’s tee shirt in it but it takes about 40 pumps and one flip of the fabric to get it accomplished.

Is this item bpa free?

Yes it is: easy, one-handed operation spin-cleans salad greens with the oxo salad spinner. Centrifugal force automatically distributes and whisks away water to ensure every leaf of lettuce is clean, crisp and ready to serve. Will not tear delicate leaves. Press brake button to stop spinning motion. Removable interior basket on this oxo good grips salad spinner is the perfect colander to rinse fresh produce and remove dirt hands-free. Use the salad spinner bowl with lid to keep lettuce fresh and crisp inside the refrigerator. Tab lock secures spin button. Outer-base ring ensures nonslip control on a countertop. Requires significantly less water than manual rinsing. Bpa-free. Top-rack dishwasher-safe. 6 1/4-qt. Capacity bowl.

I broke my older version plastic outer bowl. Does the old lid and basket fit into the stainless model also?

I’ve bought this twice. I keep melting the lid by accident. This first one fit the second one. I would guess they are the same.

Sealed lid?

No sealed lid. Lid seals when basket is spinning.

Can you use it like a tupperware, as well?

Yes, you can store cold food in it (minus the inner basket, unless you want to store the lettuce with air around it)… But be aware that it won’t be leak/spill proof like tupperware.

Are the parts of the spinner top shelf dishwasher safe?

Yes, all of it is top shelf safe, but i’ve never had to put the mechanical part into the dishwasher…just give it a quick rinse or wipe. This spinner is nicer than the other rounder, more expensive oxo spinner….i’ve had them both. Highly recommend this one!

What is the difference between the oxo good grips salad spinner and the soft works salad spinner?

Thanks for your question. The truth is they introduced oxo softworks primarily as a way for retailers to distinguish their product offerings. The biggest differences between them are 1) good grips has a larger assortment of products and 2) most often, there is a slight difference in styling (i.e. In the case of our pop containers, good grips containers have a round button and softworks containers have a square button).it’s very important to note that though slight variances might exist between product lines, all oxo tools meet the same functional requirements. Every product they introduce undergoes the same rigorous user testing, follows the same universal design principles, and adheres to the same strict standards of quality expected of any oxo product. For example, a good grips salad spinner is made (and works) just as well as a softworks salad spinner. As a result, they are priced the same, even though they are found in different retail environments.

How much does the small hold compared to the large? For 2 adults & a toddler, which is better?

I only have the small spinner, it spins enough for 2 good size dinner salad. As your toddler will grow up fast, you may want to get the large one. I think it will spin enough for 4 – 5 salads, but you don’t have to fill it full.

Is the clear bowl made out of plastic or glass? I hope it is made out of glass.

Clear, hard plastic. Glass would be too easy to break. I love it.

Can the stainless steel bowl part go in the dishwasher on the bottom rack?

I had this spinner for almost 2 years, frequent use, my son and i loved it, and i always washed it by hand. Then this week i put it in the dishwasher on the top rack, with the metal bowl on the bottom rack. Next day my son spun lettuce in it, and it broke! There was a plastic pin in the spinner mechanism that either came unglued or broke away. It no longer spun again. Coincidence? I can’t say. Now i’m debating whether to go with another of the this same brand/style or try another brand altogether. If i bought another of the same brand i could use the old bowl and drainer with it when needed. Can still use them by themselves as a non-spinner. Thinking… Thinking… Trying to decide.

Stainless steel spinner unit is too tall for our fridge … What do you do, if also so … ?

I think your question is what would i do if the oxo steel salad spinner was too tall for my refrigerator. I personally do not store any leftover greens in the spinner. I prepare the salad, immediately clean the spinner, and put it away before dinner. I do not serve in the spinner, because i’d like for it to look like new for a long time. Instead, i do what my family has always done: use heavy glass containers for refrigerator-storage. I put the remaining greens — if any salad is left, which is not usually the case — in a pyrex or anchor hocking dish that is size-appropriate, cover them with a very-slightly moist paper towel spread over them, and top the dish by putting on its lid or even stretching saran-wrap or the like over the dish before storing the greens in the fridge. Some of the glass dishes (say, 20-ounce) we use for storage are stack-able, if we invert the lids that come with them, and thus we control the height of all left-overs in the fridge. (we do not use plastic for storage of still-warm foods for health reasons, so we just buy heavy glass containers.) hope this answers your question.

How the heck do you disassemble the lid on it?

To disassemble the lid for cleaning, lock the spinner in the flat position. Then turn the lid upside down and simultaneously press on the two grooved tabs to release. To reassemble, slide back into place until you hear a click. This is why i keep piles of instructions 🙂

Is this the largest spinner that oxo makes? Also, is this the newest model?

The largest salad spinner oxo makes is the oxo steel salad spinner, oxo model #1071497. Unlike the good grips salad spinner, it has a large stainless steel bowl (6.34 quarts in size), and the basket is about 5 quarts – http://www.amazon.com/oxo-1071497-steel-salad-spinner/dp/b000nd5c9i/

I never knew i needed or wanted one until i did.

I never knew i needed or wanted one until i did. Ya know? I wanted it and kept coming across the plastic used ones at the thrift stores. I wasn’t about to purchase those. I was sad and envious. My life wasn’t complete, then there it was. On sale on amazon so my husband said, darling whatever brings your heart joy, it is yours. Actually he said “yeah sure, i don’t care” but, either way.

I mean my complete happiness is in the lord god jesus christ. And to be completely transparent nothing in life is fulfilling without him. So if you’re looking to find joy through shopping you’ll keep looking because no purchase will mean much until you trust in him as the only way to salvation. We are all sinners and all of us deserve eternal punishment. Despite what modern times tell you. There’s one truth. The bible has never been fiction nor will it ever be fiction sorted. It’s a historic account of a specific people and it’s true. I pray if you’re reading this that you seek the lord out. If you’re genuine he will reveal hisself to you. And once you know him it’s really hard to succumb to much else. We are made for his glory. May god bless you.

Happy with my purchase

I really like the oxo brand in general. I really appreciate the large size because i often eat salad meals, especially in the summer. I wish the mechanism didn’t go so far down into the bowl, but i don’t think there is much way around it, design-wise. I tend to use a lot of micro-greens and they easily get caught in the basket holes; again one product designed to fit most applications is best. I’m going to get a slightly softer dish or bottle brush and i know that will do the trick to get the basket cleaned much more easily. Actually, my real problem is i don’t have a dishwasher 🙁 that i can toss it in to the upper rack to wash it for me!

Dries wet lettuce in a flash!

I love this little salad spinner! It’s as cute as it is useful, and it’s changing the way i prepare salads.

The spinner is so easy to use. All i had to do was put the washed greens into the little colander, snap on the lid and press lightly on the black button a few times. The spinner started to whirl around lightning fast, and in less than a minute, all the water splashed down into the bottom. The greens were dry again in no time!

It was really easy to wash up after i was done using it, and because it’s so compact, it barely takes up any room in my cupboard.

I love watching the greens go round and round. I feel like i’m putting them on an amusement park ride. Whee!

This salad spinner is perfect. It’s one of the coolest gadgets in my kitchen.

The ultimate lazy man vegetable tool….besides a garbage disposal

Your doctor told you to eat more greens…not lettuce…but spinach, arugula, kale. So you buy the bag of greens, and throw it in the reefer….and there it sits until it become a molten quivering mass of recombinant dna ready to unleash its fury on your in-door green trash or the green trash can.

Let’s do a replay on that last scenario. You bring the bag home, almost in tears, cuz your mom scared you when you were young with lima beans. You open it and dump the greens in your sink filled with cold water. You swish it around, yiu pick it up. You dump it in the spinner, you plunge the tops 3 times or so. You open up the spinner, dump out the collected water, and then cover it back up and put it in your reefer. Fresh salad for a couple of days. And block out the lima beans.

The best salad spinner!!

This salad spinner is the best i ever had! It’s easy to use just push down and spin. My last spinner i had to crank and my hands are not so good so pushing down instead of cranking is so much easier. It’s large as described and very easy to clean. I purchased this after seeing a recipe on pinterest and immediately saw how easy it was to use. I love it!!

Love ittttttt

I know it’s just a salad spinner, but some products just make your life easier! My only issue is that water gets stuck in the top part and i can’t figure out how to take it apart or if it can be. But since it’s machine washable i just let it air dry which it does eventually and doesn’t get gross.

5Expert Score
Sturdy and easy-to-clean

This salad spinner is exactly what i was looking for. Many of the ones i’ve seen in stores are too light and flimsy — or aren’t balanced properly so they just spin away if you’re not careful. This one is solid — not heavy, but sturdy enough to do the job. And i love that it’s dishwasher safe so i can just throw it on there after prepping salad.

Can't wait to use this

My granddaughter introduced me to this product. For years i had been washing salad greens by hand and drying them on paper towels. This product makes life so much easier. I cut up my salad greens and put them n the colander to wash them thoroughly, then spin them, and it is ready to serve on the table using the bowl ori can place them in a plastic bag with a dry paper towel to keep in the refrigerator and use as needed. Great product; a colander; a spinner and a serving bowl all in one. So glad i found this product.

Oxo star product

This is one of the items that oxo does well.
It’s light and easy to clean. The lock works well and the brake feature is helpful.
When storing in the fridge i put a paper towel under the basket for moisture and it keeps the items longer.

I can see through it!

I love that this spinner is glass and i can see through the spinning mechanism. I have been battling an invasion of india meal moths and found some in my old oxo spinner. I couldn’t see inside to make sure i had gotten all the larva out. I soaked it in hot water and dish soap for an hour, rinsed it in hot water but still had the creeps. So i ordered this new one. I am trying to get rid of all the plastic in my kitchen. My only ding on this is it doesn’t come with a separate lid so i can store the cleaned greens without having to use plastic wrap or foil to cover it. The old oxo spinner had a separate lid. Other than that i love it! I have used it 3 times since it was delivered.

Large, effective, sturdy, spins smoothly

This is really well made, i was impressed! The plastic is very strong, and the spin mechanism worked well.

However, it’s huge. I think this would be an amazing salad spinner for a family, but for an individual it was too big and took up too much space on my shelves.
I also found that making a single serving of salad for 1 – with light lettuces (like butter lettuce) didn’t work as well as when the spinner was half full or more. It didn’t spin or dry as effectively for me. I knocked off a star due to that, but it’s absolutely a 5️ for someone who is using this for a multiple people or larger amounts.

I ended up returning this, and switching it out for the oxo smaller salad spinner which is perfect for my needs.

Great salad spinner—but with cheap materials considering the price

I bought this after using it at a friends, and despite the negative reviews.

The positives: it’s big. The metal bowl allows me to mix my salad in it after spinning, because the metal means i can put it in the dishwasher and easily clean it.

The negatives: for $70, or even $50, the interior strainer bowl and top should be made of metal. There’s no reason except the company’s cheapness that they’re not. The inner bowl isn’t as easy to clean and it will break sooner than the metal outer bowl. Same goes with the top, the spinner mechanism and lid.

I believe reviewers who have said it broke with minimal involvement from them. It’s like the designers gave up in the middle of creating a great product.

It’s still the best on the market that i’ve found this far.

Helps my shoulder problem

I bought this bc it was reommended by americas test kitchen. It operates very smoothly and is a welcome relief from the salad spinner i wrestled with for 20 years! The only thing i have to get used to is the space in the center of the basket that the spinner mechanism needs. There is a specific way to load the greens around it. But i will gladly learn how to load it so i dont have to work up a sweat anymore! It’s so smooth, easy to use and very easy to clean.

Good for washing lettuce and vegetables

Does a fair job but still leaves lettuce fairly damp. Very durable. Oxo should revisit the design for improved drying.

Heavy duty salad spinner

Bought this one cause i’m tired of the plastic spinners getting warped and throwing them away. I like this one but the glass bowl is really heavy especially when filled with water. Maybe a stainless steel spinner will be my next purchase.

Easy to use

We grow lettuces and kale and needed a salad spinner desperately. I chose this one, it is easy to use, and is a good size capacity. My 5 year old grandaughter loves kale, and uses this salad spinner when the kale is picked and cleaned.

You can't go wrong w/oxo

I bought the wrong size. This large capacity salad spinner is jumbo. I should have bought the smaller version. It’s bpa-free & it’s super easy to use!

So so

I spun and spun this thing and my lettuce was still wet. I’ve only tried it once so maybe it was my technique. Sturdy and well made.

Overpriced

It does the job but not perfect; a bit bulky; lid is falling apart; for that price expected much better quality; with that said- use it now daily: wash and dry salad leaves, veggies, berries; don’t know how i lived before without it
