I love cooking with this, although it took a little getting used to. Different from cooking with gas.

Although the heating element lifts for easy cleaning, the shiny area under the element has very cheap plating. Scrubbing removes the plating and then the shiny surface quickly rusts.

I’ve had this just shy of 2 months and it no longer works!? I had started to notice it wasnt very good at keeping a steady temp but then today when i went to turn it on it wouldn’t heat up! Very disappointed i feel like this should be lasting longer than a month and change. Of course the return window is closed. I’ll order a different brand and toss this one. Buyer beware

Great for single people to consider this duo burner and a toaster oven if they want to stop using their gas stove. You can find both for under $100. Also, folks should educate themselves as to how much electricity their household devices use.

I like that this item is simple – old school but works really well – my stove broke been using this to cook w no issues – when my stove is fixed it will go to the guest house.

This burner works really well, but doesn’t last long. I have bought this same burner for my mom in january, march, and july of this year. She uses the burner once a day to either boil water or steam veggies, and she is careful about keeping it clean with a damp sponge. She prefers this old-fashioned electric coil, but it’s getting expensive buying this every few months. It is nice that she can get same-day delivery when it breaks.

This works great. I just wish it could be used for longer intervals. I would like to use it to slow simmer some foods. It’s great for frying, heating up or cooking foods for less than an hour.

Surprisingly well-constructed, all metal, little hot plate. The small but mighty burner heats fast and evenly. Heating element lifts to clean the pan – a surprising feature at this price point. Very short cord for safety as the lightweight but powerful hot plate could be inadvertently moved causing burns or a fire.

Update. The unit is only heating on high for 10 or so seconds at a time. Sauteing is a very long drawn out process. If you are not in a hurry, it is a very nice hotplate.

Used this for a week while waiting for new oven delivery. Good price & easy to use. Very basic but does the job. Small enough to easily store away until needed again – should come in handy during the holiday cooking.

I purchased this to try boiling about 20 gallons of maple sap into syrup in a purely hobbyist endeavor. (this boiling had to be done outside. You can’t boil that much water in your house without drywall slumping off your walls or ceiling!)

this was probably not what the manufacturer had in mind… Still, i wanted to give it a try after spending a ridiculous amount of money on propane to do the same thing last year.

I really appreciated the metal construction. It held up well under a pot filled with 1.5 gallons of sap (about 13 pounds including the pot). I’m sure it could have held more weight than that without a problem. It heated up very quickly and stayed hot during an average 4 hour boiling session.

1200 watts is enough to boil a pot of sap (which starts out 98% water) but not boil it away very quickly. I can get a 1500 watt space heater, and my wife owns a 1875 watt hair dryer. Why can’t i find a hot plate with more power than 1200 watts?

It eventually took about 30 hours to turn 19 gallons of sap into steam. I thought i might very well kill this thing before i was done, but it still works (and looks!) like new.

Portable stove quality issues have always been a problem when people want to buy them based on price. Knowing the proctor silex other more expensive company hamilton beach they have a commercial products division i gave this stove a try.. The stove is only good for about a 4 quart pot that can sit on a 5.5 inch heat coil. There is a noticeable metal expansion contraction noise. To see old similar quality stove at an auction web site search for a ‘broilking buffet stove’ those are 1100 watts with infinite heat control and more expensive for used.

The light stays on at all times. Most let you know when it’s heating again and light goes off when it reaches desired temp. In a way, it’s good because it reminds me to unplug it, but i’m always looking at the light to see if it’s actively heating at that time. You do have to turn temp quite high to get good heat. Good buy.

I ordered this to use as a burner for the dinner table to use for hot pots….how ever, the cord is very short. It will work fine on a counter, however, if you use for the dinner table, you’ll need to use an extension cord.

Other than that, it has legs for safety and heated up our pot well.
