Ring Solar Panel For Ring Video Doorbell (2020 Release)

The ring solar panel was easy to install and so far i have not had to charge the battery in my ring doorbell since i installed the solar panel the end of july. Before i got the solar panel i was getting pretty upset with my ring doorbell because it seemed like i had to charge it almost every 45 days if i had my ring set-up the way i wanted it (motion sensitivity max, package sensitivity max, motion frequency-frequently, live view on, recording length 60 seconds, and audio streaming and recording -on) but now my battery is usually between 85-100%. The lowest i’ve ever seen it go is 74% when it’s been cloudy out for several days and i’ve had a bunch of alerts. But then it jumps right back to 100% the next day. So i’m glad i bought it. When i installed it i decided to install it on the front of my house near the top of my front stairs instead of by my roof because i read that it’s good to keep the panel clean and free from snow and ice. So where’s it’s installed, it’s above my front bushes and away from my window awning so there’s no shadows hitting it but it’s low enough for me to clean it once a month and be able to clean any snow that may get on it this winter.. The only thing i don’t like is that the base can’t turn sideways to follow the winter sun. So i’ll have to see what it will be like this winter since it only moves up and down and i can’t tilt it towards the south at all.

We got got the solar panel to extend the battery life of our ring flood lamp and camera and it works great we do not have to change the battery to charge in our home as frequently but if you live in an area like i do that is 75% cloudy during the year you will need to charge the battery with a dc outlet but it is worth the investment i would recommend it so easy to use it is not a huge panel it is approximately 10 x6 but check me on that it comes with its own holder screws everything you need to attach it to an area where you get the optimum sun exposure

Super easy to install. Before having this, i was having to charge my ring doorbell about every 14 days or so and now i’ve had this solar charger for about a month and the battery level has increased 20% and stays almost fully charged. No more unscrewing my doorbell multiple times a month and being without it for 8 hours or overnight without video. If you don’t have a hardwired ring, then this is the next best thing. We will see how it does in the winter months when the sun isn’t out as much but i’m definitely happy with this purchase.

This was the 2nd solar panel i purchased, the first one was the incorrect panel. This one works great. I do not have to ever worry about charging my ring alarm again. Worry free, who wouldn’t want something like that.
All you have to do is plug it in on the back of the ring in the charge slot and your done.

ring customer service worked with me at great lengths to fix this issue. In the end the issue persists. From what i can tell, the ring v2 only starts charging when the battery drops down to 74%, then charges back up a few percent. It never charges to full.

It seems that it is a firmware setting in the doorbell that controls the soc. This would be easily fixed with an update.

The solar panel seems to work fine.

I would recommend this product.

doesn’t charge the battery. My setup receives 4-5 hours of direct sunlight on clear days. The battery discharges at ~1% per day. It seems to slow the discharge only. After 19 days, my battery is down to 77% charge from 100%.

Very disappointed.

The battery has dropped from 100% to 76% since i installed this solar panel, about a week ago. I am anxious to see if it continues to drop. I will be updating everyone if it does. Update: after reading other purchasers input on this solar charger, it doesn’t seem uncommon for the battery to drop to around 75% and hold at that percentage. Mine is now at the 75%, therefore, i will see if it continues to drop or stays around that percentage. As long as the doorbell doesn’t have to be removed for charging, i am not going to make a big deal out of it. (to be determined) update: 9/26/2022..the solar panel appears to be holding the doorbell power at 75% therefore, i have no problem with that. My goal was to not have to remove the doorbell for charging. I believe i have accomplished that goal with the solar panel. 9/27/2022: still holding @ 75%..i 9/28/2022:now back to 77%. It appears to be doing what i purchased it for. 10/4/2022….my final update: the battery in now back up to 79%

I figured this would keep my ring doorbell near a full (90+ percent) charge all the time, it doesn’t. It does however keep it in the 70’s. Still a better option than removing the ring to charge it.

Basically like a plug and play. Just got it. We will see if it holds a charge.

Solar charger for ring doorbell. Glad i got this solar panel for my ring door bell. Since i live facing a busy street. It would go off alot and battery was going low fast. It has been a life safer. I don’t have to take the ring off to charge.

So far the charge has stayed at 75% and the panel is in direct sunlight. I’m not sure why it can’t get to 100%, but it is nice to not have to recharge my ring, so far.

Great product, but it only charges the doorbell to 75%.

I know a lot of people don’t want a random wire running up their exterior wall to a solar panel. Why the power cord doesn’t detach from the back of the solar panel is very odd. It could have been made with some very small waterproof connection points so you could customize the length and like me i have my ring installed on a brick wall so i ran the wire through the brick wall to hide the wire. I had two options: drill a hole big enough to fit the bizarre micro usb plug or cut the 20′ cable somewhere and feed that through the wall and resplice on the other side. I went with option two. It’s only two wires so if you have some heat shrink or a soldering iron just cut the wires and add or subtract what you want then reconnect.

This product was hard to drill into the side of my house. Make sure to put in direct sunlight.

Easy to install. Only gave 3 for tech support only because i have not needed them.
