Is there a difference between the ring 2 and this ring(2nd gen) doorbell as the ring 2 had many problems?
Hey all,
1. Yes, there is a difference, 2nd gen has removable battery pack.
2. Yes, this does recharge and yes, you can connect this to your existing doorbell wires.
3. This has a battery built inside, so you remove the whole ring doorbell to recharge it. If you connected this to your doorbell wires, then no need to do that because they will be constantly charged up, since it is connected to the power in your home.
4. The other ring model, second generation, has a removable battery pack. So, the ring doorbell doesn’t have to be removed completely, only the battery pack. Charge it up and pop it back in. It makes it easier, instead of having to remove the whole thing like this model.
I hope i was able to help.

Will this monitor who stole our valet garbage can from our apartment
Install right away! It only records like 6 seconds but it’s free for a month, i think. Valet trash is hard to capture, good luck!
Do you have to get the ring protection plan or will it work without one?
Ring protect plan: i believe $30 per year covers one device; but $100 per year covers multiple devices upto 25 or 30 devices since i have two flood lights, ring door bell, 4 ring indoor cameras, $100 seems worth for having cloud recording for all devices for 30 days. Only issue is in spite of having a very fast fibreoptic internet plan above 200mbps, there is a lag time between a person appearing in front of the camera/door bell and time the phone or ring chime alerts about it.

How does this work?
You have to have wifi set up in your house, as this needs wifi to work. You’ll need to download/install the ring application onto your smartphone or tablet, to get this set up and working. Once set up, you’ll alerts on your phone when someone approaches your door. You’ll be able to remotely see and speak to a person via the application on you smartphone or tablet. For a $3 a month fee, they will save videos os door activity for 90 days in case something like a package gets stolen to show police. If there is an existing doorbell wire, you can connect the ring to that to get its power feed, and rings you old doorbell as well.

Any local storage? Micro sd?
Nope, all video saved to cloud.
Is there a monthly charge/subscription?
How much is the monthly charge / subscription fee
Is this waterproof? I dont have an overhead on my porch so it would be 100% exposed to the elements.
Ring doorbells are water resistant but not water proof. I returned mine as i could not install
it on my door setup. Cust service is not good. Indoor equipment seems to work fine

If i have low voltage wires from my tradition ring door bell, will this device light up, keep the battery charged and ring my original chimes??
Yes. And even at those low temperatures mentioned in other comments, i have not experienced problems in below-freezing temperatures. There are jumper switches in your house doorbell chime that you may need to adjust. Instructions are in the box, and also, ring tech support is super helpful with wonky house systems (house wiring that doesn’t necessarily look like what you expected, troublesome chime jumper switches, things like that).

Does it work with 5g wifi?
This definitely works with 5g wifi. Wifi is wifi. 5g wifi just uses 5g as a transport, like cable modems use the cable. The 5g modem creates a normal wifi network at home, that the ring can connect to. I have the t-mobile 5g wifi service and it works very well with that service.
If you don’t have a bell will it still ring?
The ring unit outside will chime twice as well as ring your phone.
Is there a monthly fee
No, but you do get a month free of ring protect plan & after your 30 days you can choose whether or not to continue it. There’s a monthly or yearly fee, but if you choose not to do it there’s no fee, you just won’t get the extra things it offers.
Si. No pago los 3 dólares al mes, puedo seguir. Viendo los videos en tiempo real

Do you have to ring the doorbell to activate the camera?
No it’s motion activated
Will this notify you on your cell phone also can you talk to who is captured on the camera
Yes your phone notifies you that there is activity at your door. Yes you can respond through your phone.
If i use with existing doorbell wires, would i still have to charge the battery?
Nope
Does it ring in home and not just on phone?
If you are replacing an existing hardwired doorbell, then it connects to that wiring and rings your existing house doorbell chimes once you’ve programmed it using the instructions.
If you are just mounting it on the wall, battery operated, it will only ring on your phone and/or an alexa device. But, you can buy a ring chime that just plugs into any outlet (and connects to wifi) and you can select from a variety of melodies/announcements for doorbell rings and motion alerts (or silence for motion).

Do you need existing doorbell for this to work
No, i don’t have a doorbell for my apartment.
Is it wirless
Yes, you have the option to use wireless and connect the ring to your wifi. I also recommend the doorbell boa. You don’t have to stick it to your front door. I won’t damage your property either.
Will it work with existing door and the existing chime inside?
Yes. You must use the existing wires from your old button, and then setup the ring correctly in the app. Here is the path to use in the current app as of 7/17/22 on ‘ring video doorbell – 2020 release’

Was recalled a couple months ago due to the battery overheating?
No, i checked the website itself and is because people are using the wrong screws at the bottom to secure it to the mount, that punctures the battery. Use the screws it was given to you by ring and it wont have any issues.
