Is this better than bone broth if i had to choose?
2. Fda doesn’t regulate vitamins and supplements so you cannot always rely on businesses to be 100% transparent re; what’s in the product and what isn’t.
3. Humans have known the benefits of bone broth for a very long time. Hence book titles like chicken soup for the soul, etc., nobody needed it to come in a powder form, so if you think about it, this product was made for the convenience of “quickness” but doesn’t replace the nutritional value of homemade bone broth.
Go on youtube, there are tons of videos that show you how to make the most delicious bone broth soup at home— it’s cheaper, you get a lot more, and you know exactly what’s in it! I add bragg’s acv to mine to help pull out the nutrients from the organic chicken drumsticks. You know you’ve got a lot of collagen after you remove it from the fridge and the entire soup “jiggles”, like jello. That’s all collagen! My 11 year old daughters acne clears up after she eats 3 bowls of it, and she absolutely loved the way it tastes! Good luck! 🙂
The first container i received said grass fed, pasture raised bovine hide collagen peptides but the second container doesn’t say grass fed anywhere?
How does it taste
No plastic seal to take off from outside. Should there be?
I have bought this product 13 times over the past year and love it. Now it has doubled in price. Very frustrating. Why has price doubled?.
this is our 32oz bottle which has always been 51.95. I believe you are referring to our 16oz bottle which is 27.95 and currently out of stock.
How many amino acids does the dark chocolate contain?
How is this processed?
Is this whole 30 complient
How is it calculated $1.28/oz when it is sold at $27.95 for 16oz? My math says $1.75/oz instead. Please help.
Does this pass the ca prop 65 rules for heavy metals and toxicity?
Does this have zinc, silicon and copper? I heard it helps body in absorbing the collagen.
Has the company addressed any issues as to why the containers aren’t full, what’s the little black specs, why are there bugs and why the holes?
What heavy metal testing has been done? Is it free from lead and arsenic?
How much do i put in 8 ounces of water? Please help, thank you.
Does this have a great vanilla flavor?
Does product contain magnesium stereate ?
El frazco que viene el producto es plástico o vidrio? Is the bottle that comes with the product plastic or glass?
Hi! Is the package recyclable?
Why does the item says it’s on the go sticks but all of the reviews are showing the container? Before i order i would like to chose the on the go
How much if any protein does this have?

What are our customers saying?
First of all, thanks to the many reviewers who have posted here – it helped me make my decision between this brand and another leading brand that was significantly more expensive. I’m now on my second order of premium collagen peptides and have been rather amazed by the results.
I’m in my mid-30s and have always been an avid dancer, runner, hiker, and now outrigger paddler, so my joints have taken a beating and it finally started to show last year with chronic lower back pain, knee pain, elbow tightness, and reduced mobility in one of my shoulders. I was especially concerned about the shoulder issue so last october i went to a physical therapist who recommended exercises and collagen supplements. I was skeptical about the latter, to say the least. The exercises improved things somewhat, but i also wasn’t paddling at the time and knew that after the holidays i would be starting again. Plus, who wants to be having trouble getting out of bed in the morning when they’re 36?? I started taking these collage peptides on feb 1, 2017 and it’s been 4 weeks. I also started paddling again 3 times a week. Here’s what i have noticed:
1. Elbow pain and tightness completely disappeared within 2 weeks. I literally couldn’t sleep with my arm bent, and now it’s fine.
2. Knee pain was also gone within 2 weeks. When i’m not paddling i run steep trails here in hawaii and the downhills were starting to be really painful. No more.
3. My shoulder has significantly improved over the 4 weeks – i still haven’t regained full mobility, and it’s sore when i perform certain movements, but i no longer cry out in pain every time i try to stretch it out.
4. My lower back pain, due mostly to an old injury and unhappy discs, has dramatically improved. I’m still stiff some mornings but not so badly that i can hardly walk.
If all that sounds like a crazy series of benefits, believe me, i feel you. I have a phd and am skeptical of everything, especially supplements. But there is no denying that i’m seeing dramatic improvements while still paddling and being active, and that was after three months of doing only physical therapy with minimal improvement.
I know a lot of you take these for hair, skin, and nails. It seems from others’ experiences that it may take longer for those effects – maybe 2 months instead of 1. Nevertheless, i have good skin that’s prone to dryness even in the tropics, and that seems to have improved in these last 4 weeks. My hair might also be growing faster, as i’m seeing a lot more of those little wispy new hairs around my temple (wish so many of them weren’t gray…). If i suddenly wake up and look 10 years younger in the next few weeks, i’ll be back to update this, haha. But for the time being i am going to continue to take this supplement and highly recommend it to others. I just wish i’d started back in october when my phys. Therapist said to!
On mixing and flavor, i add a scoop this to coffee, tea, soups, hot water and apple cider vinegar (i love it!), yogurt, smoothies, and have no issue with the consistency or taste. One scoop a day and my first can is lasting into the second month. Give it a try, especially if you’ve got unhappy joints!!
*************** update after 3 months!
I love it when people actually update their reviews…
I’ve been taking collagen peptides, one scoop a day, for 3 months now. Everything that i said above still holds, my joints are in much less distress due to my active lifestyle, my shoulder problems have nearly disappeared (though i don’t expect it to ever fully be great until i stop paddling), and i generally feel good overall. What is different is my hair, nails, and skin:
hair is growing insanely fast. How do i know this? Because i touch up my roots to cover grays, which i needed to do every 4 weeks (exactly) and now have to do it between 2 and 3 weeks. That is insane. There is also much more new hair that is now very noticeable, which i mentioned earlier. Also insane.
Nails are growing equally quickly and are strong, but they always were strong. Still, super fast growth compared to before.
And finally, fact: my skin is far more hydrated than it was pre-collagen. This is nice, because it seriously used to flake and be grumpy even in the tropics. I still have fine lines and wrinkles thanks to smiling …but my skin somehow seems more thick and the lines aren’t as obvious? Under no circumstances do i believe they will go away (not going to stop smiling), but this has been a neat benefit.
Bottom line after 3 months is i feel great, i’m happy with the aesthetic benefits, and i’ll gladly touch up my roots more often to have thicker hair! Just buy the stuff already.
********************** and now 3 years later…
I still take this product almost every day and swear by it. My mom, brother, and countless teammates have been converted too. It’s the only supplement i take, and i continue to hike, run, and paddle regularly. I had really stopped thinking about all the benefits until recently, i had to travel and do double quarantine, and didn’t have the powder with me, so i went about 7 weeks without it. I’d been having trouble with tendonitis in my foot when running on uneven ground and it really flared up while i was traveling. It wasn’t until i got home and realized i had totally forgotten it – just a couple weeks of the daily dose later and my tendonitis was well on its way out. So, again, i can’t say enough good things. I guess i’ll just be taking it forever…
I received an email from sports research asking if this product met my expectations. My answer is.. Not even close!! I started taking this about 3 months ago. I was having some skin trouble and after some research found that collagen might help so i went searching for something and came across this product on amazon. I really dislike these powder supplements and only chose this one after reading a review from someone who mentioned she put it in her morning coffee and i thought ‘i can do that!’. Worst case scenario would be it wouldn’t help with the skin issue but i would have great hair and nails, no harm no foul. What i completely ignored were all the reviews about the joints. I have had osteoarthritis since i was 16 and have tried every product known to man and nothing ever helped. At 32 my orthopedic surgeon was going to replace both my knees and i not so politely declined. I am 47 now and for almost 2 decades i have been taking 800 – 8000 mgs of ibuprofen daily just to be able to move.
Less than 2 weeks after i started taking this once a day in my morning coffee (thank you fellow reviewer!) i realized i hadn’t taken a single ibuprofen in over a week. I hadn’t been able to bend my knees past a 90 degree angle for i couldn’t even tell you how long and now they move and work like normal knees with not even the slightest discomfort. I went from sitting 12 – 16 hours a day to ‘holy crap i can’t stop moving’. Excess weight is falling off like nothing, my overall health has drastically improved, and i am getting out and doing things i was never capable of before. Not living with the pain and excessive amount of ibuprofen has even changed my overall demeanor and outlook on life.
I don’t know what else to say. How do you review a product that literally gives you your life back? All i can do is thank the makers and the reviewer who made me want to try it. Thank you!!!!
I’m starting this out early at 27 years old and i’m starting on a pretty messy slate. Unfortunately, i have a bad mixture of illness that has a major effect on my nutrient absorption and hormones. Pcos and lupus have done quite a number on my hair and skin for years and i didn’t have the motivation to stick to a set routine and fix it. I have ibs diarrhea and constipation type as well, which i know can cause toxin absorption during heavy constipation days. (if you have access to resources such as nutritionists and specialists, they are the people to check in with before you introduce any supplement into your daily regiment. All supplements taken with observation and note by my gastroenterologist , rheumatologist , and neurologist). Now, supplements alone will not fix the damage if you aren’t treating the cause. I am in now constant treatment for the pcos/lupus/ibs and was looking for something to pick up the slack for the years of damage done. Here’s where this collagen powder comes in.
Initially started it 3 months ago, bought this previous months supply for the first time from amazon. No issues with my order, was completely full and the quality of this batch was the same as per usual. Was seeing some reviews about half full or nearly empty shipments or discoloration so be aware of this possibility.
I add this to hot chocolate mix usually, mixes well in anything hot without clumping.
Coverage of the first month is not super significant : for the first two weeks i noticed no major changes, and i hope you don’t expect any either. This is something that takes time and sticking to before you can see any results, but there are benefits, that you can be sure of. After the 3 week mark i started to notice that my hair wasn’t falling out nearly as much as it used to. By the 4 week mark showers started being something to look forward to and not something to force myself through. I don’t even mean just the boost of confidence seeing barely any hair at the bottom of the shower. Moving around and bending about in a cramped space was much easier, my joints weren’t complaining nearly as much as usual. In reference to the headline ; this first month is when i noticed something peculiar. For a decade now i have not had normal stool. Near constant diarrhea, even after days of constipation. Occasionally, i will get hard, large, and painful stool to accompany the diarrhea. Ever since starting this, within 48 hours of starting this to be exact : i have been regular. Medication specifically crafted to help with my ibs wasn’t perfected until this was introduced to my bowels. When i was reading reviews, i noticed there have been very much opposite reactions to this collagen powder. Many low reviews with complaints of diarrhea when they usually don’t experience this. I was geared up to have a terrible reaction, but i was pleasantly surprised. Not guiding anyone with ibs diarrhea/constipation type to try this and expect the same results, just an interesting observation i wasn’t expecting and has been a helpful benefit.
The start of the second month was when a lot of my outer improvements started to push through. I tried several months ago to do the wavy girl method (hair guide to have non frizzy wavy hair) and it failed because my hair was too damaged on the inside. I tried it again the second month of taking this, and even before i began, my hair was starting to shine and is noticeably more hydrated. Week 5-6, it was so much softer than normal and a lot of regrowth was happening. Frizzy still from all of the breakage, restarting the wavy girl method during week 6 was helping to take care of a lot of my concerns with that. Hair is noticeably growing at an accelerated rate @ this point. Have fringe and have noticed it’s growing around 2 times faster than what i’m used to. Week 7-9 were definitely weeks were my skin showed the most change. No hg , magic moments; only a realistic and minimally satisfying change to my skin’s hydration. My skin retains my moisturizer for longer and doesn’t immediately push it back out as oil so i’m happy with whatever minor change i can get.
Month 3 is where all of my previous positive experiences with this supplement were boosted. Already my hair has always had the illusion of looking thick, even when it was falling out in clumps, because it was so dry and fuzzy. Now it looks thick because my hair is regrowing, the strands are thicker , my hair is hydrated, and the wavy girl method along with this has helped my natural wave pattern to return. Swelling and pain in my joints has minimized (taken alongside lupus oriented medication) and my skin looks plumper in areas that were starting to look indented and sallow. Again, don’t expect any miracles, my under eyes still are incredibly tired and sunken. That is cause and effect of illness and the collagen powder has done a lil improvement in the lines under my eyes and adding the tiniest bit of fullness to where my cheeks meet the sunken area under my eyes. This supplement can not give you what things like fillers and implants would, but it does help you to keep what you have now, and make believable improvements on skin texture, hydration, elasticity, joint health, and hair quality.
I plan to continue purchasing and using this product and it lived up to all expectations. It’s worth a try if you are interested in starting collagen supplements with no idea where to start, and i would recommend at the very least a two month trial period.
I’ve used this product off and on for the last year. While i can’t speak to its efficacy in preventing joint pain, i can say, without a doubt, that it transforms my fingernails and hair. I have hypothyroidism, am chronically dehydrated (i love diet coke wayyy too much), and am rough on my hands (gardening, wrenching on my bike, etc.) and when i am using this daily, my natural finger nails stay bright, strong, and beautiful! Like if my actual fingers didn’t look like my grandpa’s (who is deceased—my aged skin and knuckles ain’t cute lol), i could be a fingernail model with this hoes. My hair also feels stronger (hypothyroidism has also thinned/weakened it).
I love that it dissolves easily into my coffee or tea and i don’t taste it at all. It can be challenging to get to dissolve in colder substances, so try heating it a small amount of water and dissolve it in that first, before adding to a cold smoothie or whatever. I also like to put it in my oatmeal, to add some protein to balance out the carbs.
I’ve recently switched over to the marine collagen (i feel bad for the cows) from the same company and will do a review for that one after i’m finished with the container i’m currently working on!
I was unsure and leary about collagen products in general. My hair started falling out in big gobs when i would brush or comb my hair. It would be the size and bouncy solidness of a golfball when i rolled it up. My sister told me about her good experience with this brand and shared some of her product with me. Since i have been using this product (on my second container now. My hair has grown thicker and longer… And some of the silver is actually growing back to dark brown, which was totally unexpected. The proof is in my hairballs that come out of my comb or brush – they are the size of small marbles now when rolled up instead of golfballs. So i can honestly say my hair alone is in much better condition regarding less hair loss. I cannot comment on aches and pains or additonal pep in my step, yet; but i will continue to use this collagen peptides brand until i can repost about that experience. I put it in my coffee or tea, but i like it best in my lemonaid. Flavorless works for me.
I don’t know if this will work for others, but it definitely works for me!
I liked it came very full to the top. This was a winner in my book. I haven’t really gained any results due to i’m only 2 weeks in and i’ve been hearing you need to at least use it for 2 month to start seeing results. I am hopeful and investing into my health and well being so yea this is a start. This product mixes very well with any liquid hot or cold and i haven’t noticed a taste which is super awesome cause some products taste weird. Anyways this is a yes product for me.
I bought this for my hair loss. I was having pain at my scalp and breakage at the root. I’m 46 and my mom is thin so i’m not looking for a miracle but if i can slow the process and recover some of the loss i’d be happy. I noticed when i ran out of the first supply i felt pain at the scalp and frequent breakage. I would just roll over and feel it break. Definitely decrease on breakage! I can roll and no breakage!
My nails became very weak, splitting and breaking like never before. I decided to try this dark chocolate flavor in my coffee. I have dry skin & hair plus osteoporosis. Why not, it should help one of more of these issues! I’ve been using this for about 6-8 months. My nails are now extremely healthy and hard! Noticed my lower eye lashes are thicker, possibly uppers too. I love mocha flavor so adding it to my coffee has been a treat every morning. Also good in smoothies or oatmeal. Only 1 scoop per day.
I couldn’t taste it at all. I only used it for however long one tub lasted, but it felt like a while. And it truly made a huge difference in my skin. Unfortunately i haven’t been able to purchase anymore, but i will in the future and i would definitely recommend!
I love this powder and use it daily in my coffee. I’ve got in on subscribe and save…so i’m getting the same product each time. However, the scoop size recently changed (see pic). The nutrition information on the packing remains the same. Not sure what happened?
I am a 57 year old woman who has been comfortable in my own skin. I have never held back enjoying my life. Hey! You only get one time around! My motto is to make the most of this one time.
For the most part i don’t watch what i eat or drink. I’m not fit or super healthy by any means. But i am happy as hell!
I go on vacation to sunny places and i like moderate sun. So that’s me.
My whole life i looked younger than my years. People used to say ‘no way are you 25, 30, 40’ or ‘no way do you are a grandmother’. But since turning 55 i don’t get that much anymore and i was freaked out a little bit!
While secretly searching for the ultimate ‘fountain of youth’i by chance found this product and because of all the positive reviews i decided to give it a try. Its very affordable, much cheaper than all the facial creams out there.
As of today i am 35 days in of taking this product every morning in my coffee. I do not taste a difference in my coffee but my coffee does taste richer. I don’t mind it at all.
The only reason i will say that i am dissapointed is because i expected a ‘miracle’. I expected this product to take 10 years off my age in 30 days. So back to real life…
I told no one, not even my husband ( who is 15 years younger than myself) that i was adding this to my daily routine. I wanted an honest reaction from people i see everyday.
As of yet, no one has said anything. But who cares about them?!
So this is what ‘i’ have actually experienced.
1. In 35 days i have noticed a very big difference in the bags under my eyes. They seem to have ‘filled in’! I don’t look tired all the time. And no one says that i look tired (i hate when people say that, so rude).
2. I have long, semi thick hair that i need to color my roots every 4-5 weeks. Since taking this everyday i had to color my roots again after 3 weeks. People i know are saying that my hair is growing so fast! I certainly have to agree.
3. My fingernails are super strong and growing much faster than using biotene.
I purchased 2 containers of this product and will use every last scoop.
When i am done i will update with ‘my’ results.
So far i would have to say that i am personally satisfied with the results, enough to keep me hopeful.
I’ll update again in 30 days.
It has been 2 weeks since i started taking this and it is unbelievable!. I already see results on my hands and nails and arms. Nails are growing fast and strong, arms are smoother stronger i was starting to see cellulite on my arms… Not anymore in just 2 weeks! I cannot wait until the container is empty to see and feel more positive results!. 4 stars only because good collagen is too expensive it doesn’t last long and economy is pretty bad. Price should be lower for everyone to be able to access this wonderful supplement. I am sure if it wasn’t too pricey more people would be happy to buy it and i am talking about every good collagen is too expensive not fair but when it comes to quality/ results i am 100% satisfied.
Perfect product if you are looking for a collagen supplement to support healthy skin, bones, and joints. I use this in my smoothies, combining one scoop in my fruit smoothies/juices, the collagen powder can be use to thicken the liquid like juice or water for a more refreshing taste. It tasted better when cold. As i aged, i lost a lot of hair, and this is what i need to support healthy hair and nail growth. As a pharmacist, i am well aware of collagen peptides and its amino acids benefits, so when it comes to picking a product, i want it to be convenient and easy to use. One scoop is all you need.
Not sure why so much focus on the taste; are people afraid of tasting something ‘weird’ like bones? I personally like the taste and for coffee/morning shakes the normally slightly sweet taste adds to the taste and texture.
This is a pet peeve i don’t know if other companies do as well; the safety seal is an unidentified combo of plastic/paper/too stiff to be either, i hope it’s not foam (neurotoxic). It inevitably does not all rip off so you end up with glue and pieces of the seal either still on it or all over the place. I don’t want to eat that glue so i take off as much as i can with tweezers. If it was just paper i’d just leave on most of it to cover the glue. Because the glue will not come off unless i use some kind of metal spatula and that’s more ocd than i like to go for collagen peptides of debatable efficacy.
I appreciate the ‘family company’ concept but their company name sports research (??) and tone – abrupt, ‘scientific’, facile use of health buzzphrases (grass fed without clarifying or ignoring the organic question); abrupt stock answers to q&a or ignoring those inconvenient to answer, or eliding the question with additional info like the dissolvability and ‘it mixes with anything!’ instantly! ‘it’s tasteless’ nothing is tasteless and if it was that would be strange. Bygones; people want to know if it works and if it has chemicals that will eventually kill us. Grass-fed is great; i doubt as one respondent said ‘they’re always kept in pasture and no chemicals touches the collagen ever’ – there is a multi-step process from killing the cow to removing things from things then purifying and drying the thing. No chemicals ever touched it? That’s not even what the person was asking. They just wanted to know if there were pesticides on the grass. Reasonable question.
As for the much vaunted dissolvability, it is not. Sorry. Is this make or break? No. Like a reviewer said, they’d lick this off the floor for what it does for their xyz, can’t even remember.
If it’s not just overcompensation on their part and distraction from real questions, and it actually matters—it is somewhat dissolvable. I haven’t noticed much more so than gelatin. It is easily dissolvable in hot water but then again not as thick or flavorful as gelatins i’ve tried so it doesn’t improve the taste of coffee as much.. So the very qualities people tout as deserving of much mention are the qualities i don’t see as positive or relevant.
I can see how it’s important that it be soluble; it is. It doesn’t remain a solid block in room temp water. –if you don’t mix it with a utensil it will however be a clump at the bottom and you’ll have to keep putting water in there to loosen it up. After four glasses of water it should be mostly gone. You have to drink a lot of water with collagen or protein anyway.
One of the good parts of its not-easily-dissolvability is the fact that it thickens things. Like bulletproof coffee. And maybe soup. I personally don’t see why people would use this when they can make bone marrow soup. Time, i suppose. Then again so much time is spent reading these reviews to figure out what’s real what’s not. Hence i’m writing a lot because i feel despair at the lack of unbiased yet informed detail in reviewland.
In terms of the other quality people describe in positive terms, yes, this product seemed more tasteless. I don’t know what it means except maybe it’s been processed a bunch. Or maybe it’s ‘pure’ which usually means processed. Unless the taste is so disgusting that it prevents digestive juices from flowing and affect the bioavailability, i don’t see how this is a point of pride.
People do seem to have a lower tolerance here for new/weird tastes so, perhaps i consider taste to be secondary to function.
I don’t notice much difference in skin, hair, or nails. My nails might be more shiny. But not thicker. Maybe they got longer after awhile. This is the second time i’m getting this product to give it another chance. Tbh the fact of the lack of response on the organic question, and the fact of the military-level seal and plastic enclosure having no effect on the amount of collagen dust outside the container (at first i thought, yay, no safety seal. I’d rather have a dusty outside than deal with foam or bits of paper/plastic) but no. Two levels of seal protection and lots of dust. Furthermore i don’t know if peptides do anything especially if not organic grass fed. Apparently this makes a big difference.
I understand it’s a tough market, sports research. I’m sorry to leave a less than raving review, but what i say holds for many of the other companies as well. The price point is low, and if i had the inclination i’d keep trying it, if i were looking to collagen peptides as a solution for a specific issue. Like i said it gave me shinier nails, and i’d have to try it longer to see if any of the other claims are true. In which case i don’t understand the point of a 30 day supply if it is explicitly not long enough.
Please feel free to correct me if you disagree on any of these statements or know something i don’t know. Thanks!
Only been using for a few days so don’t know if the health effects will be good yet, but… First impression is that it seems like good stuff.
Arrived in perfect shape and well sealed. I opened the jar and no weird smells, texture/consistency was good, product looked clean. Container seemed about 60-70% full (as expected due to settling).
I stirred it all up in the jar with a small whisk to ‘un-settle’ it. Then i used my kitchen scale to zero out the grams weight of the plastic scoop itself when weighing. I casually scooped a full but level scoop amount and weighed the product (without the weight of the scoop)- it came to exactly 11 grams as stated for the 1 scoop ‘serving size’.
So, the scoop measure is accurate if you don’t leave the product all packed down when it arrives in a settled state. Sort of like sifting flour a bit before measuring it.
I poured the scoop into my stirred hot coffee cup, pouring slowly not just dumping all at once. It dissolved immediately and sort of disappeared. Didn’t turn my coffee light colored like a creamer would.
I usually put only a tablespoon of 1/2 & 1/2 in my coffee, and i could not really taste anything different with this powder added. I love that!
This supplement 1 scoop adds 10 grams of dietary protein to my day as well as (hopefully) the benefits of collagen, so i look forward to using it every day. It’s always hard to eat enough protein to avoid muscle loss, especially as we get older.
Gonna save a few pennies and buy the 2 lb container next time and just refill the smaller jar on the kitchen counter. 🙂 if i see actual collagen benefits after the first jar i’ll then ‘subscribe’ to the product.
We’ve used this product for about 4 months, recently ran out, grabbed a different product at the grocery store (vital proteins), and began to compare the two. Now, i’m trying a third one by zhou.
sr & vp powders had the same look (very fine granules), taste (no detectable taste), and both dissolved quickly into coffee.
Zhou: much more ‘fine’ – like the consistency of baking powder. Did not dissolve quickly, clumped on top and left clumps in the coffee; needed to be stirred vigorously – and for quite awhile.
sr & vp: have no taste or smell – you cannot detect it in your coffee.
Zhou: has no taste – however – it sticks to your tongue – there’s definitely a weird residue on my tongue/in my mouth as i drink it. :(. Leaves a visible film on top of your coffee.
nails: just as brittle and awful as ever. I have no detectable improvement after 4 mo of collagen use.
Hair: no detectable regrowth or reversal of hair loss. The loss continues – there is no magic cure.
Joint pain: my spouse was hoping it would improve back pain – collagen has not done that for him. I have shoulder issues, and it has not prevented or improved my mild rotator cuff injury.
Skin: collagen might have minor benefits to skin, but my guess is you’d have to consume gallons of it to see actual improvement. It is not the fountain of youth! I stopped using my retin a while taking the collagen to see if there have been any slight improvements in my skin tone/condition – and fine lines seem to have increased, not improved. Back on retin a – where there are actual results. 🙂
muscle tone/strength: jury is out on this, as gym visits have been limited due to the pandemic.
Weightloss: we have both lost significant weight while using collagen peptide powders – however – we are also cutting out carbs and committed to intermittent fasting.
Arthritis: i have the early stages of arthritis. I haven’t had a flare up in about 7-8 months now, but cannot be sure it’s due to this supplement. I hope that it is – then that, alone, would make this worth it.
Label comparison: look closely at my photo, and compare.
1. Vp has 19 amino acids, sr & zhou have 18.
2. They all seem to be sourced outside of the u.s. (brazil, eu, new zealand, argentina)- don’t be fooled by the claims of being made in the usa, they are assembled, perhaps tested, in the u.s. – but the product comes from overseas.
3. Vp has hyaluronic acid – the others do not list it on their labels.
– i would choose vp, although more expensive, because of the inclusion of ha (hyaluronic acid) – which has numerous documented benefits (and i’ve seen it restore mobility to our dog) – and will be going back to that brand.
– i like sr, but would place it 2nd to vital proteins
– i do not recommend zhou brand due to the strange residue it leaves in the mouth when you drink it, but if that’s not a problem for you, it is somewhat equal to sr.
**do i think taking collagen products is worth it? Sure – even if it’s a placebo effect. If you feel better about yourself, then that’s a benefit. Do i think collagen is a fountain of youth? No.
The contents are harmless (unless you’re allergic) – so it’s worth continuing to see if benefits begin to emerge over time, but we have not experienced overwhelming benefits in 4 months of use.
I love this stuff. I just add it to my smoothie. It has no taste. I do notice a difference in my lips and skin.
I don’t know if it’s effective, at least i don’t have any side effects. I haven’t noticed a difference in my skin, but the effectiveness of supplements is also hard to measure. This flavorless powder tastes really bad and it’s really hard to mask the taste even in a smoothie.
This product was suggested to me after my knee replacement surgery and i really feel like my other joints and skin feel much better, and so does my 84 year young mother!
I got the vanilla and the taste is disgusting. I needed something to flavor my coffee in the morning and we do use the unflavored but i thought the vanilla would be nice. It tastes horrible, like that fake vanilla coffee taste.
