Tamagotchi Original 25th Anniversary

I still have my old original tamagotchi from the 90s (the green on in the pictures) and when i heard there was a re-release i just had to grab myself another one! Although very alike here are the things i’ve discovered between the old and the new:

•the newer remake is faster in button response (by like a split second but noticeable enough) which is quite nice.
•the battery in the remake is just one cr203, where as the older version took two lr44s.
•the size and shell shapes are nearly identical aside from the back battery panel.
•last but not least, the newer one has a polarized screen (for sun protection). It’s only noticeable when i’m wearing my sunglasses. It makes it hard to see at the tamagochi and menus on the screen – i have to remove my sunglasses to see the new remake’s screen.

Overall i love the remake and it brings back so many memories! I purchased the 25th anniversary edition and absolutely love the iridescent/mainly purple clear shell!! I would certainly recommend to anyone who would love to have a blast from the past.

I purchased it because i remember really wanting one when i was a child, but my mom couldn’t afford one. The moment i received it, i felt like a child again. It is a lot of fun taking care of it and watching it grow. My children are getting into it too and they take turns playing with it and feeding it.

I bought one of these for nostalgia purchases and it was the best decision. It was just fun to play and invest time into a little trinket i remember from my childhood. Would definitely recommend it as a gift for young kids today and even adults and older kids who can also remember when they were more popular.

I had one of these when i was a teenager some 30 odd years ago. When i saw these for sale i absolutely had to have one just to relive those years for even a little bit. I took care of my little tamagotchi dude for a couple of weeks before i realized that i am too busy to play this anymore. Hehehe i started over maybe three or four times and every time i realized that i just cannot babysit at the whole day through. So the little tamagotchi dude flew away after a day or just even a few hours of me not being able to take care of it.

However, i will say that it was worth the time, the money and the effort to relive a little bit of my childhood. Again. The nostalgia was very very thick with this toy and i have hung it on a thumbtack on my cork board in my office so that i can look at it and remember the fun times. The battery life is great. It’s been hanging there for about 2 or 3 months and not a flinch or a flicker. I really love the color of it. I love the look of it. I love that i can silence it too hahaha i would definitely buy it again as a gift for somebody.

The flower gingham design is so adorable on this tamagotchi. The “software” is just like the original version from 1997 — same buttons, screen, functions, and beeps.

The tiny manual is surprisingly clear and complete. It thankfully includes directions for muting your tama, which i think most people miss, as it’s toward the end of the booklet.

– to mute/unmute, hold the a button and press c.
– to reset the clock, press b for the clock to appear, and then hold a and press c. The clock will go into set mode.

I got my tama from amazon warehouse deals. It was dead on arrival and had obvious pen marks on the reset button, and i was afraid it was broken — but fortunately it just needed a new battery, which i replaced. Then i pressed the b button, and the infamous pulsating egg appeared! I was in business! Yes! My first tama!

The babies need lots of frequent attention, feeding, and games, with occasional toilet flushing and medicine. The baby stage lasted for about two hours for me, and then it transformed into a toddler. As they grow older, they require less attention.

They automatically go to sleep between 8:00-11:00 pm and wake up between 7:00-11:00 am, depending on age. If this is a problem for your work/school/sleeping schedule, just reset the clock on the tamagotchi so it better corresponds with your preferred hours. (i did so, and it works great.)

definitely recommend for anyone who wanted an og tamagotchi but never had one, or if you lost yours and want to relive the late ‘90s!

It’s nice for travel

Bought this because i was nostalgic and craved some useless little thing to take care of, something that even if i fail, it won’t matter. I don’t regret it. It’s only been a few days, but so far it helps keep me from sleeping all day because i’m scared it will die. Somehow my first one died two days in. Genuinely no idea how, i barely ever even let it get to the point that it would beep at me, poor thing just started death beeping and i couldn’t do anything about it lol, but i’m not upset. It’s a good challenge, i suppose maybe it got sick and i didn’t notice? I feel like sometimes it doesn’t beep to alert you if it poops, and sometimes it does? Or maybe it doesn’t at all? Shrug, i’m not quite sure but i don’t really mind. It’s still very fun and i am very much enjoying this stupid little toy.

I’m only slightly annoyed by the dull screen that can be unviewable from many angles, but that’s expected with these guys unfortunately.

Got it for my son and he loves the tamagotchi.

It takes a little practice to get to know how to take care of these. I would not recommend for someone who can’t yet read. But the concept is cute and teaches kids responsibility. I bought this for my granddaughter and grandson when they stayed with me for a few days. The older one liked it more because he understood how to use it, the younger one had a little hard time with it. But when they took them home, their mom took them away from them because she didn’t like to hear the beeping.

it wouldn’t let me review the 25th anniversary version without deleting my old review, but this is for the new one. It’s identical to the first tamagotchis that came out in the us other than some minor additions (like battery low indicator). Similar to the other rereleases, the speaker connection uses a spring. This is what causes the sound to be obnoxiously loud at times. Anyone who is wondering if it’s louder than you remember–yes it is. I have a few vintage tamagotchis from that time and they are much quieter. I modified one of my other shells so that the connection between the speaker and the contacts on the pcb is via two wires instead and it was much quieter. Unfortunately it is a design flaw that has persisted in all remake models. The sound can be distorted and extremely loud as a result. Thankfully it can be muted by pressing the right button and then the left button at the same time. You can do this while on the time screen to pause it as well in case you are busy (it will say set, and freeze your progress until you set the time again).

Other than that mostly it is exactly the same. There is a new logo on this version, and if you’re buying it for pure nostalgia you may not like that. Personally for me the jury’s out on whether it’s better or not, i’m mostly neutral on the change with a slight preference to the old one since…well, it’s how it originally looked.

Do note if you get anything other than a plain color or clear plain colored shell (like if you get a shell with a fancy printed design) that the designs can wear off on these as i’ve found with one of my others. Also, they are kind of grainy/have a low resolution look to the print on them if that makes any sense.

As for the 25th anniversary shell, it’s kind of a pearlescent purple color–the pictures don’t really look anywhere near as nice as it does in person. These types of simple color shells tend to hold up to wear the best when it comes to these remake tamagotchis.

The oldest i’ve seen anyone raise the new ones is, coincidentally, 25 years. It seems giving your tamagotchi snacks in this one will possibly lower its lifespan compared to the older ones.

Overall it’s a pretty faithful reproduction, the battery change is nice as cr2032s are easier to get than lr44s, but the speaker issue is a major flaw preventing me from giving five stars.

Could use a tad bit more variety in terms for color, but the sound, buttons, and gameplay are what you pay for and are exactly what you get. If you know a tomagatchi fan, this is for them.

These are awesome! If you get a good one. Bought my daughter the mermaid one 4 years ago and it still works like a charm. Came back to order another for a gift but one of the buttons was sticky so had to do an exchange. Perhaps quality control is an issue, but if you get a good one it will last for years of fun! Nice thing about amazon is that exchanges are easy.

I never had a regular tamagotchi as a kid, so my point of comparison is my gen 1 digimon tama (an original, not the cheat mode 20th anniversary ones). The bubbled screen is dimmer and sometimes the image looks doubled. The buttons are smaller and harder to push (and someone said these are more reactive than the originals too) so i push them with my nails a lot. The sound is louder and clearer (this could be annoying tbh, but it does get itself heard). The case is cute, but i’m not sure how well the print will hold up just being in my pocket. Works fairly well, good deal for under 20$.

When i bought it the design on it was faded especially near the edges

5 year old loves it. Only complaint is that the screen can be to light sometimes to see.

Fun

Was fun for a little! But over time gets loud and annoying when needs to be fed. Randomly in the night the tomagotchi starts crying its annoying.

Gave this to my daughter for a birthday present; only one button worked; could not return because i was “out of the time frame window”—so now i’m stuck with an even more useless toy, and a sad little girl.

My 12 year old got tired of it quickly. It needs so much constant attention and since she can’t bring to school, it just kept dying over and over. Frustrating.
