Looking for specific info?

What is the ingredients of the solution used to kill the flies?

Active ingredients: sodium lauryl sulfate (0.08%). Inert ingredients: vinegar (5.00%), water (94.92%).

I suspect you could refill these with diluted apple cider vinegar and unscented dish soap to break the surface tension like the sodium lauryl sulfate does. Seems a waste to throw them out without experimenting.

Will this work with knats in the house ?

It worked for me. Had a bunch of them around my cats food and litter box. They’d drive me crazy flying around my face. Now there’s only been a couple in the last week.

Does this work for ants as well?

No. These traps are designed to attract fruit flies only. We recommend our liquid ant bait to help control ants.

Flies flew all around traps, but not in them. Terro says that means they’re not fruit flies, but they’re too big to be gnats. What can they be? Help!

Drain flies and fungus gnats are about the same size as fruit flies. Feel free to contact our consumer relations team at 1-800-800-1819 x 458 for further assistance.

Will these catch regular flies?

This trap is designed for fruit flies only.

Do you need to refill with apple cider vinegar and a little bit of liquid dish soap or can you just use apple cider vinegar?

I love how the manufacturers response is: “these are not made to be reused, buy another set!” uhhh no. That’s literally the only reason i was going to buy this, a more attractive option than a vase with holy plastic wrap! Diluted apple cider vinegar, vinegar:wine, vinegar:dawn:water

Can these be used outdoors – eg in raspberry patch?

No they don’t work in a house and i’m sure they wouldn’t work in an outdoor situation

Are the traps reusable, can i purchase the liquid bait to refill?

The traps are reusable. Don’t need to buy new bait. Make it at home with a mix of apple cider vinegar and a little soapy water. Vinegar attracts them, soap kills them.

The only terro that this place had was for fruit fly so i got 2 of these fruit fly traps is there another way to use for ants

Terro ant bait works great we get it at home depot.

How many ounces are in each bottle?

Each bottle contains 1 fl oz of lure.

Will this attract noseeums? Desparate!

This trap is not designed for noseeums.

True fruit flies are reddish in color. Will this work?

Our fruit flies seem to be darker but yes. It works for them. You can peak inside and see them.

When will these ship. I see no update. How do i contact the seller

I ordered my traps on a monday and they arrived at my house that wednesday.

Why don’t the flies go inside the trap? Mine are covered with flies but none seem to go inside to die.

Flies are initially attracted to the trap itself, then they will begin to crawl inside looking for the source of the attractant.

Has anyone ever refilled these successfully. If so, how? I know the seller says no.

This trap is not designed to be refilled, we are unable to provide recommendations for doing so.

Does this work for ants as well?

No. These traps are designed to attract fruit flies only. We recommend our liquid ant bait to help control ants.

Is this good for gnats too?not fruit flies, but just gnats?

This trap is not recommended for gnats.

What is the ingredients of the solution used to kill the flies?

The flies are attracted to the vinegar solution in the little red apple. They fly into the apple and they drown in the fluid. Works perfectly and i have no annoying little gnats or fruit flies buzzing around in my kitchen. This product works.

Where can i find liquid bait for the terro trap

Terro claims that their justification is for sanitary reasons. That to me is bogus, and is clearly profit driven by their greedy marketing department. The user is simply capable of washing out that apple with hot or scalding water prior to refilling with the liquid. Perhaps we should try refilling them with some of the hundreds of home made ideas found on the internet.

Do these actually work?

The short answer is yes and no. They do work great if the flies actually fall into the liquid. Sometimes the flies just crawl in the hole and back out again.

Sharing my apartment with fruit flies!! Gross!!

Update 2!! Bought 2 more of these to have on hand. Big fan

update!!!! Almost a week and they are nearly gone! I accidentally spilled one of these and although it was disgusting, i was happy to see that it was working

i live in nyc aka a small apartment, and had a very abrupt infestation of fruit flies. I dont leave any food out at all because ive had mice and roaches in the past. I did everything i could think of….cleaned the cabinets, put out apple cider vinegar with dish soap, diatomaceous earth (works for roaches), did the little cone and fruit trick, until i finally sprayed raid which i cannot stand doing. Nothing worked!!! And i’ve been pouring boiling water down every single drain in my apartment for 4 months at least 2x a week. Nothing, and i mean nothing!!! Was stopping these little flies. For the past week, every morning i find them sitting on the rim of my apple cider vinegar cup almost like they were enjoying it and mocking me. I put these out and stared at them for an hour waiting for one to take the bait…. A few got close and flew away. I honestly was loosing hope and was planning on just asking them to pay half of my rent (nyc is too expensive to have unwanted roommates.) after about an hour i caught 1. Now they are all sitting on the top of the apple and i am waiting for them to fly in and drown. I know it’s awful. Im a vegetarian and i hate killing even flies, but these guys were swarming me day and night. They had it out for me. These work pretty well so far. I think each one has 10 flies dead so far (about 5 hours) it definitely beats swatting a towel around trying to kill them…id recommend these and repurchase but i truly hope the fruit flies never test me again.

Works in an rv!

I bought these because fruit flies are evidently a problem in rvs, especially if you live in one long-term, which i do. I was becoming so annoyed and frustrated with them. So, i ordered these and got them yesterday. I’m only using one at a time, instead of both, because my rv is only 21′ long and not near as large as a regular house. I felt i could use one for the specified 45 days, then use the other.
Results? Already, the device has dead gnats floating in it! And, i’m no longer being dive-bombed by them. I get that they’re basically a nuisance, but it’s really annoying to have them land on my food, or in my drink, or on me. Now i’m not having any of that. Hallelujah!
I highly recommend these.

Holy cow is this effective!

Review totals don’t lie so when i saw this on amazon with thousands of reviews i had this shipped asap. I opened the package as soon as it arrived, set it up in two minutes, and cannot believe how many fruit flies are attracted to this thing!!!

We harvested our tomatoes and between those ripening in bags, a bunch of bananas my kids decided they don’t like (this week), and farmer’s market leave-behinds, we had a fruit fly mess on our hands. Like bad bad bad flies everywhere.

This trap attracted them all from the first floor right to the spot above my sink. You could see the cloud of flies from the next room. I’m confident the trap will be full based on the amount that are in there already.

Simply amazing. I’ll never buy sticky messy paper traps again in august/september.

They really work!

I’ve always appreciate terro’s effectiveness in dealing with ants, so despite some negative reviews, i gave these a try. For the first 30 or so hours, i was disappointed. However, having deployed them (all 4 in different spots in my kitchen) on saturday afternoon as soon as they arrived, i decided to wait and see. I still had many fruit flies and only 1 in one trap the next morning. I noticed many of them lounging on the tops of the traps, however. They were being attracted, but seemed in no hurry to take the bait. To my astonishment, when i was doing the dishes later that next night, around 11 pm, they were gone. Not a single one flew up out of the sink. They were in the traps, dead. Terro does the job!

Works

Very impressed with this, i was a bit skeptical as to how it would work as there are so many methods shared online as to how to get rid of fruit flies. When the lure ran out, i just used apple cider vinegar. No need for dish soap or anything to remove the surface tension, i think the design prevents the flies from escaping once they get inside. Also it’s pretty small so easy enough to hide in a corner of your countertop, personally i’m not inclined to put it right by my fruit bowl and have it ‘blend in decoratively’ as some ‘top 10 products you need in your home’ lists suggest

Best product ever

We stopped at a fruit stand for peaches, and along with the peaches came the fruit flies. I did battle with them for a few days. They just multiples quickly made sure no food was out, washed trash cans in kitchen, baking soda in drains, still had enough to be annoying, given there long life span and reproduction rate it was some what expected. Last year i bought raid brand they were ok, this year i found i could get terro same day delivery, i want to tell you as i was filling the as soon as i got them around 5pm i had a fruit fly trying to help me. Only saw a few while in the kitchen at door time. I took a peek at the trap on my way to bed it was covered with flies crawling in, so impressed, i just ordered the liquid refills. So i will never be out. Love summer farm market fresh fruit hate those flies.

It works

Every fall there are fruit flies in my kitchen, does not matter how clean it is. They are for few weeks, but their presence is annoying, and i was trying to get rid of them by different homemade ways. Was no luck. This year i’ve got fruit fly trap ahead of time. Flies appeared as usual, but pretty soon their quantity diminished, and they disappeared. The inside of containers was full of dead flies. There was no smell, no sound, just 2 small plastic containers. Good job! I will buy them again next year.

If you want to get rid of the bugs, this works!

Our apartment got infested with gnats and i purchased 8 of these, 2 for each room. These along w a few other bug type traps we were able to stop the infestation within 5 days. They are very easy to use. They have a little window so you can see the progress you are making on catching the bugs/flys. It comes with its own liquid but you can use apple cider vinegar as a refill if needed. I purchased something similar to these and they didn’t work nearly as good bc once they go in they can’t come out. Also all the holes on the top allow the smell to drift out better then homemade traps that i also used. I would definitely recommend these, at least give them a try, buy 1 set and see what happens. If you have a bug problem trust me you will try anything esp if it’s nontoxic if you have animals/kids.

Life saver!!!!

My teenage son had a huge fruit fly problem in his gaming room after forgetting about a bowl of cantaloupe he didn’t finish. It’s hard to believe how quickly there were swarms of them! It was an understatement to say i was freaking out. I put 8 of these in the room and closed the door for a weekend. The fruit flies started landing on the containers in less than 30 seconds-i timed it. After two days all the fruit flies had been lured into the traps and met their demise. I can’t say enough good things about this product. I was worried i was going to have to resort to a harmful messy chemical bomb , but these worked beautifully.

Amazing, must buy!

I hate flys, fruit frys ect. They’re disgusting! I had few and my sister told me about this. Litterally open the solution bottle, pur 1/2 in they top whole, visualize pour thru clear window on side. Other 1/2 is for other bottle in 45 days. Remember this is for the tiny fruit flys, not regular flies.

Well holy smokes! They were on it within 30 minutes, then went inside. I van see about 20 floating in the window, wich i only had a few, alot more than i tbought!! Worked soo fast, theyre all gone in 1/4 day.

Not my sister had soooooo many, all over everything from a piece of rotted fruit that fell out of sight. It was soooooo gross! She put both out in different spots, gone after a couple days.
I’m leaving mine out the full 45 days as its not gross, can5 see them, no smell ect. Definitely buy this, they are attracted to the heavily scent of apple cidar vinegar(dont know what else if anything is in solution) then they crawl in and drown in it, cant get out.

It works!

I tried a little experiment with these. I had a bad fruit fly problem. The annoying little things were everywhere, but mostly in the kitchen. I saw a ‘recipe’ on line of apple cider vinegar, sugar and water that was supposed to attract them. I made a mixture, put it in a little jar, cut some holes in a piece of yellow poster board and placed it over the jar. Then i took a the terro fruit fly trap and placed them side by side.
The first couple of days my home-made mixture had attracted and killed about 20 flies. The terro trap had caught one.
However, as the days went by, the terro was attracting and killing many more flies than my home-made one. I stopped using my home-made trap. My fruit fly problem has decreased significantly. The only reason i didn’t give it 5 stars is that the package says that it will kill flies ‘for 90 days’, but the solution dried up after about 30 days.

Fruit fly’s begone – lure worked incredibly well

09/2022 update: 3rd purchase, the lure really does work well.

Tip. Get a zap it! Swatter and rest the racket on top of the apple. Any flies that are slow to get trapped are easy to electrify ️. Just approach the handle slowly and hit the switch.

I tried this because i was home sick with covid, and unfortunately disturbed the traps a little too often.

Original review: i live in texas and had a persistent fruit fly problem after buying a bad batch of strawberries.

I placed the “apples” near their hang out spots where they wouldn’t be disturbed, then added the lure. It was astonishing – flys started swarming over immediately. After 24-48 hours, my problem was solved.

It’s hard to look inside, but there are easily a couple dozen flys in each, and i haven’t seen one since! I was concerned the flies would have trouble finding their way inside and actually get trapped, but it worked out.

I tried pairing it with those flat, yellow, sticky fly catcher’s but those worked horribly. Dry enough that only one that landed on it got caught.

I’d give this 5 stars if it was reusable and they sold the lure, but apparently they don’t. Not eco friendly and i’ll see if i can find a way to do so.

Reduced fruit fly population in a day

We had a bit of a fruit fly problem, so we got some zap traps that looked like they would work for $20~30 and a pair of these. The zap traps did not catch one fly, not fruit flies or any other kind of flying bug. Maybe we got crappy zap traps, but the apples (and specifically these, not the raid apples, which kinda work but not as well) have been amazing.

Here’s how it’s gonna go – you only order these when you’re frustrated that you can’t get rid of the flies, so you’ll fill the trap, and then you get frustrated when you see flies land on the trap and crawl in and out of the holes and not fly into the solution. But after just an hour, we had a clump of flies in the solution, and after a day, a large number of them. We can’t figure out where they’re coming from and this is the most important thing you can do to fix your fruit fly problem, but in the meantime this has made our situation more bearable.

Also, there are a few reviews complaining that you have to order more traps because they don’t open. They do. It’s just not intuitive to open them, but if you squeeze them at the seam you can get them open to clean the flies out (do this outside!) and if you wanted to add your own fluid you could.

Work well

Is easy better looking than a jar with plastic wrap on top. I got it to put in our office at work. No more fruit flys!

The attractant is basically a sticky apple cider vinegar smelling stuff. The bottle that comes with lasted a week or 2. With both filled.

The top pops off so you can clean out the dead fruit flys. It’s gross.

I suggest looking up how to make attractant out of water soap and apple cider vinegar. For less than a dollar you’ll have a year supply.
The homemade attractant works just as well.

These aren't bad, but

I live in the south where it’s hot and humid and fruit in the house brings lots of fruit flies, gnats. These little apples aren’t bad and the liquid that comes with it smells like white vinegar. When i first got them i put1 squirt of vinegar (the little ‘bait’ bottle) in with 2 drops of dawn and just a tiny bit of something sweet like jam or jelly then set it aside. I went to look at it later to see if any were caught but when i picked it up they flew out of the holes on top. So, i got some blue painters tape and covered over all the holes except the middle one and now they trap more. When little bottle was empty, i started to use apple cider vinegar, it works better. These are ok, but my water bottles cut in half (with top put into the bottom with lid part, with out lid, facing down) with ingredients listed above work just as good but just not as cute. Gave them 4 stars because i covered the many holes and the tiny amount in the bait bottle.

This product does trap fruit flies!

At first i thought terro was used for ants, but i was willing to try anything to solve my out-of-control fruit fly infestation. I put one trap on my kitchen table and the other one under my sink next to my garbage. Both of them had at least 50 fruit flies each within 2 days. My problem was bigger than the average household, so i looked up online and i treated my drains too and i am seeing only a few now and then now. You can’t beat the price and this product works as described.

4Expert Score
Great product, but…

This is a great product that works really well…however it consistently has been running out of liquid well before the 45 days they advertised. I bought and deployed several of these on aug. 11 and half have dried up and the others are tracking to be dried up soon (only 14 days after purchase). To make it a little more annoying (and as several other reviewers have already mentioned), the company doesn’t sell the liquid alone “due to sanitary reasons”. The little apples are designed so well and even allows for the top to be removed easily, so it’s seems so wasteful to continue buying more and more of these plastic apples that i don’t need just to get more liquid. The liquid works so well, i’d happily buy it at the same cost for environmental reasons alone. So far, we have 12 of these little apples and are needing more liquid again, so searching for alternative solutions to avoid adding to our stock pile…

4Expert Score
Easy, quick, and cheap

This product is easier to set up than various other ones, it requires no maintenance, and it gets the job (mostly) done. Lots of gnats infested my plant and i put the trap right next to it. Within a few hours i look back at it and dozens of gnats were caught. I recommend it. The only thing that i don’t like is obviously the vinegar smell every time i walk by. Other than that. It’s great but not perfect.

4Expert Score
Does what it's suppose to do

These little ‘apples’ certainly look better than my clear jars filled with apple cider vinegar sitting all over my house. I’ve had them less than a month and almost all the bait is gone. I’ll refill with the vinegar and drops of dish soap and they’ll be ready to go. They do work but the bait doesn’t last long. I also have the hanging sticky yellow traps which work fantastically well, but again look gross with dead bugs all over them.

4Expert Score
Really good. Except…

These suckers are really good for use. No diy-mess that comes with making your own with a cup and saran wrap/rubber band and and toothpicks, no fuss, no clean-up… Except two out of two times we’ve ordered them, the ‘bait’ they said to use has failed to lure in any bugs.

Both times i just topped it off myself (first time with a few drips from a strawberry daiquiri wine cooler, second time with a few drops of white wine vinegar) and suddenly there were gobs and gobs of the nasty little bugs inside. Buying it from amazon is a lot cheaper than any of the local options, but my assumption is the ones i got *may* have been a bit too old for the bait to still catch anything. Still, a few drops of home-chosen bait will (at least for me!) fix that issue.
