Looking for specific info?

Is this small enough to travel with?

The box is about half the size of the regular ticket to ride and shorter.
You could travel with it. It is a shorter and faster game with fewer players.
I like it.

How large is the map?

The board is about 11 x 18 inches. The map itself is considerably tighter than other ticket to ride maps, with only 15 stops total.

For kids, would this version or ttr first journey be best?

It depends on the group playing. I find that with parents or older kids playing along to coach on rules and options, a 6 year old can play the normal game just fine. When it is just a group of kids from 5 to 8, then the kids version is a better option.

Dave

Can this be used as an expansion with the original game if not, is there an expansion?

This game is a stand-alone. It’s ‘coffee-table’ sized and has no expansions. For more info, i can play a 2-player game of this in 10-15 minutes. A 2-player game of the base ttr would likely take closer to 45. If you’re looking for different things to try, consider map packs. You’ll need the base game to play those.

Which would you say is more fun, ttr new york or london? And why? Thanks.

London is definitely more fun because it is bigger and there is more to it. I really like in the london version you keep your score on the board. Ticket to ride new york is quite small and is more for a quick game.

Does this have mini cards like ttr usa or full size cards like all the rest of the maps?

This game has mini cards. 2 1/2 x 1 3/4 inches

Is there a version of ticket to travel that goes through the bronx

The only borough is manhattan.

The picture looks like nyc map only includes manhattan. No brooklyn queens bronx or staten island. Is this correct?

Correct. The map is of manhattan only.

Who are the people pictured on the box?

Just people to represent the 1960’s, although the guy in the leather jacket could be fonzie from the tv show happy days.

Was is the difference between the new york one and the regular?

Ticket to ride new york is different from ticket to ride for several reasons.
1) ticket to ride new york plays in about 15-20 minutes, while ticket to ride takes about 40-60 minutes to play.
2) ticket to ride new york includes a different way to score points based on the locations on the map visited.
3) ticket to ride new york is a scaled down version of ticket to ride in every way, including box and board size.
4) from an aesthetic point of view, ticket to ride new york uses buses, streetcars, and taxis for its theme, while ticket to ride uses trains.
Both games are practically the same in terms of connecting locations on a map and the rules of how to play. Both are simple to learn, and both are a lot of fun. The biggest differences between them are size and timing.

Is the game supposed to come wrapped in plastic wrap along with the cards inside wrapped? I may have received a used copy.

Cards inside the box should definitely be wrapped in cellophane. As for the box… Sometimes i’ve gotten games where the box is in cellophane and sometimes not. I don’t recall for his particular one for certain regarding the box.

Is this an expansion pack?

No, it is a standalone similar to ttr new york.

In ttr london, instead of longest route card there are ‘districts’ that can score extra points at game end. What is amsterdam’s scoring bonus? Thx!

You can claim ‘merchandise cards’ by playing on the outside rim of the city. There are also secret contracts (routes).

Full size cards?

No they are not full size cards and is only a step abound ticket to ride junior. This is simple enough for my five year old. Game finished in less than 10 minutes.

How many players can play?

There are taxi cabs(instead of trains like the original) for up to 4 people, we’ve only played with 2 or 3 so far, we like this game for times when we don’t have enough time for the larger versions of ticket to ride. You can play start to finish in about 15 minutes.

If you already have ticket to ride new york, is there any point to getting this one?

Ticket to ride new york is small adventure. This one has the bonus of two boards.

A wonder short version of ticket to ride

I like the bigger games of ticket to ride but this one offers almost all the same game play in a much smaller, quicker to play version. You can get this set up and played in as little as 20 minutes with the right players. I’ll probably collect all of these small versions. They’re really a pretty good deal at their price point.

Good standalone game

We have most of the ticket to ride games. This one is smaller, shorter, and easy to learn. It’s nice to have a smaller version. The new game mechanic is very easy and it is good replay ability. We played with two players—i suspect it would be a more challenging game with three or four (not in a bad way).

Ticket to ride on fast-forward

While my family enjoys a good game of ticket to ride, the kids often grumble about the time commitment. Enter this little beauty of a game. It has all the same game mechanics, but it’s like playing ticket to ride on fast forward. You’re building routes across the landscape of london with charming double-decker buses instead of trains. It’s easy to learn, and you can complete a game in about 20 minutes. While in the original, you may be able to complete many tickets, with this version, you will probably max out at three or (with a stretch) four completed routes. This keeps the game brief and streamlines the strategy.

If you’re looking for a quicker version of the renowned series, or if you have been considering dipping your toe in the water just to see what it’s like, this is a great family game!

I have bought at least 3 of these!

I bought one for us, then gave one of our kids one, then when covid hit, i sent one to another one of our kids out of town. Then when we moved and met our neighbors, i told the one homeschool mom how fun this game is and her sons would enjoy playing since my grandkids do. I gave her our copy to borrow and then just told her to keep it and ordered another copy for myself.

This is a great version to play before you play the big version so you get the concept down. This version only takes maybe 20 minutes to play. Hubby and i would play best 2 out of 3 games was the day’s winner.

I will say we did get the london one too, but it is not as fun. And we have the bigger one with the expansion. I do recommend getting card covers or using a card shuffler so you don’t damage the cards as quickly as we did. They are not cheap to replace! And we had to replace ours within 6 months because of how much we played the game!

Super easy to learn and fun to play with family.

Lovely short version of the original ticket to ride game

My kids love the original ticket to ride, so i wasn’t sure how they would take to a ‘downsize’, but this shorter version is perfect for taking on visits – the cousins managed to play 2 games together at our christmas lunch, which would not have been possible with the original, longer version. We have not managed to have a game quite as quick as it says on the box, but they really enjoy it. Only 4 players can play at a time. It is also a nice introduction to the whole ticket to ride concept, perfect for beginners, but ‘experts’ can be just as challenged.

A quick, fun, & portable game!

We own several of the larger ticket to ride games and i was looking for something that could be played in less than 90+ minutes when i found this game. It’s perfect for a quick 15 minute play and also compact to take on the road.

Great game

Love the game, the theme. Comes in perfect condition.

Great fun when you don't have an hour to spare for the regular version of ticket to ride

The fun of the original but in a 15-20min version. I wish alexa supported all the various ticket to ride games like the original though.

Fun but very short version of a great board game series

If you are a fan of the ticket to ride series like my wife and i you will find enjoyment in this game. But be warned this is a much shorter game than mainline entries. That’s not a bad thing, it’s just something to consider. This is perfect if you still want the gameplay but don’t have the time you would need for a regular game. I love the little double decker busses as well.

Great into to the awesome board game series

If you have ever wanted to try a ticket to ride game this is a great place to start. It’s much shorter than a mainline game in the series and much cheaper. So you can try this out and if you enjoy it move up to one of the main games in the series (i’d recommend the original or europe). This plays much faster than those games but is still fun.

A bit hard at first

The instructions were a little overwhelming at first. We then found youtube video which helped! Once we got the hang of it and could understand the strategies, it was quite fun, especially if you are a fan of london!

Small version with faster game play

If you like ticket to ride, this version is quite fun because it is small, portable, self contained and takes 1/3 to 1/2 the time to play the full size versions. The modification of the original rules is only in how the bonus is calculated and there is no set up time as there is no counter (you just add up points at the end). The game play is a bit restricted to one long and one short axis as that is the shape of manhattan. However there are lots of short double routes so with 3-4 players it can be quite entertaining. Two people can also enjoy but there is less competition for routes as there are a very small number of cars per player. The london version is similar size and time but is a bit more fun to play because of the board. However they are both entertaining. If you have never played ticket to ride before, this is a good version to start on because the rules are simple and the game goes by quickly so you can play multiple games and try different strategies.

Great game

This is a much faster version of the ticket to ride games. It only has 15 trains per person and the map is much smaller. The game play is still great. I had a lot of fun playing with my siblings and it was a lot easier to get them to play a 10-15 minute game than an hour with the larger versions. All in all really fun but a little less to do with the less trains and smaller map. Great to play with new players.

Rules need work.

Nice game board and parts but rules need work. We found that the game moves way to slowly, but by distributing all the transportation cards at game start and focusing on destination cards the game became quite fun. Solid game board otherwise.

Pretty small and simple

It’s small

Game duration too short

Fun game but playing 1:1 we’ve spent no more than 10-15min tops on each game/round which is a little boring when you end a round that quick.

Quicker and funner 🙂

My family (with a 15yo & 10yo) found the original ticket to ride a little too much work, but saw there was some fun to it.

This nyc version is similar but moves quicker, we enjoyed it a whole lot more.

Good for a quick game

Good for a quick game of be taken to a journey. But the level of engagement is much less compared to the larger game. It finishes to fast and less intrigued.
The materials used do provide the feeling of the budget solution. E.g. The thinnest possible cars or the colored cover amount.
